AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Public health interests prevailed over warnings that personal freedoms are being eroded as the Maine House gave its final approval to a bill to ban smoking in bars and taverns.

Representatives' 95-47 enactment vote sent the measure to the Senate and put Maine a step closer to joining California and Delaware in imposing statewide bans on smoking in bars. New York's ban starts in July, and Connecticut's newly enacted ban on smoking in bars takes effect next April.

That's another example of the POMA statistics flying around this issue, much like the 2 Oklahomans that supposedly keel over each day from second-hand smoke.

Show me a link to the regulation that says there is no smoking in boot camp.
Tell me the time frame when this was instituted.
When I went through basic we were allowed to smoke during normal breaks. We didn't get any "extra breaks". We were expected to adhere to the same physical standards everyone else was expected to adhere to.
I just have not heard from anyone that I know, except you, that smoking was no longer allowed in basic training. I know several younger men that smoke that have recently gone through basic that never mentioned it. I didn't specifically ask them about it but they didn't mention it either.

Your not passing the smell test around here. MOVE ON!

In other words, since WWII, 42,340 Oklahomans have been lost to second-hand smoke.

Since World War II, more airmen have been lost to smoking than combat.

Any links to the study that tracked every single airman after WWII and categorized their cause of death?

And do you view the UN regulating personal habits worldwide as a good thing? Personally, that frightens me. Next thing you know they'll want women to wear burkas on international flights so all us western whores don't offend anyone with our skin.

Think about that statement and the insincerity behind it.
The statement itself may be correct. Not all airmen, in fact relatively few, are pilots that would see combat.
SO....The statement itself may be true but the facts behind it are being twisted for the anti-smoker's use.

Do you realize that BC is about behaviour control and forcing people into an esprit de corpse attitude. Break em down and build em up!

So you are admitting it is about begaviour control!

In addition, when I was in the Army the cigs were about half the cost on base vs. off base.

I can't beleive you are even on this board. Keep typing so the world can see your ignorance.

Same thing to cinfla.......Pretty soon the two of you will have all of us wearing uniforms so that certain fashions are not offensive to anyone!

Bingo. There is NO hard scientific data on which to base these claims. Statistical models turn out some sort of probability factor that is applied to the population size, and presto! a number pops out. On the Oklahoma state health department website, it specifically says 750 Oklahomans die each year from passive cigarette smoke.

You could, arguably, come up with some sort of probability factor for dying from suppressing a really large fart, apply that to the US population and get a number of deaths per year due to "flatulence suppression/reversal syndrome."

"Anarchists do; anarchists have discovered that law is an excellent way to get the social change and control of gov't that they want, and anarchists do indeed want control."

Odd... I thought anarchy meant no law at all. Your definition contradicts the definition of anarchy.

"Anarchy \An"arch*y\, n. [Gr. ?: cf. F. anarchie. See Anarch.]
1. Absence of government; the state of society where there is no law or supreme power; a state of lawlessness; political confusion."

whether majoritarian tyranny(violation of rights) is legitimate

Tip of the iceberg. Or tip of the dagger. This is just a test case. Legit means legal. If they get the law on this, they will move on to the next target. They don't care about smoking, they don't care about tobacco. They are after something very big and still nameless. No, not the Return of Great Chthluhu, something even worse.

Just to clarify for you, when I went thru BC ('89) smoking was not allowed. However, at regular duty it was not only allowed, it was the only way to get a break. I started smoking in the Army.

Our Denny's is near the I-15/I-86 interchange (off I-86). We don't have enough troopers to find them camping anywhere. The drunks keep the local PD busy at 2 AM. As for Olive Garden, we're still too "small town" to attact their attention. We have a very old Italian bar/restaurant. It is small and permits smoking. My wife and I hit the place about once a week. Great salads, spaghetti, rigatoni and ravioli. The bar is too smoky for me, but the restaurant side is ventilated enough to ignore what is left. Closed on Sunday. The Italian restaurant (Buddy's) has half the floor space of the Denny's, yet never reeks. The tobacco stink at Denny's is detectable 10 feet from the front door...even in a light wind. I wonder what Buddy's does differently?

Since smoking takes years to kill anybody, IMO your link starts with a lie or there are an awful lot of 50/75 year old airmen out thereHow long ago do think WWII was ?

I choose door #1 absence of gov't, Alex.

The anarchists were originally bomb-throwing socialist revolutionaries. The state-sponsored terrorists of the day.

Absence of gov't: absence of our present gov't, replaced with something else that includes the anarchists in the seat of power. They will probably dispense with the law once it has served its purpose.

I'd simply prefer to retain my private property rights, thank you very much.

With your current set of arguments you can kiss them good bye where smoking is concerned.
