Most people cringe at the sight of a pregnant woman smoking. Some people feel strongly enough to say something in protest. But one local man took matters into his own hands early Friday when, according to police, he shot an expectant mother who refused to put out her cigarette.

I smoked before, during, and after all four of my pregnancies. My children are all grown, every one of them above average in intelligence, every one a productive citizen. I'd like to have seen the color of the guy's eyeballs that thought he could tell ME wheter or not I could smoke when I was pregnant. I think I'd have been all over him like stink on sh*t. Nuff said.
Then we come back to, "'mind your own business, fascist' and 'my momma did heroin and I turned out fine'."
And actually, what is at issue is the demonization of smoking and smokers by anti-smoking organizations, using junk science, propoganda, and dollars provided by smokers themselves by subterfuge (ie Master Settlement Agreement and tobacco related overtaxing), to the point that a fruitcake would pull a gun on a pregnant woman JUST because she is smoking.
hahaaaaaaaa we didn't KNOW about huffing 29 years ago. LOL!
You sound like YOU know a lot about it though. heh!
On this thread, you will find plenty of personal testimonials from mothers who smoked throughout their preganancies and had perfectly healthly babies.
The largest population surge ever to occur in the Western world occurred in the post-WWII period, when the largest percentage of smokers ever, inhabited the West. The result - the healthiest, longest-lived generation in the history of the World.
I challenge you to find a single reported case anywhere, ever of maternal smoking being the cause of death or ill-health of a new-born.
All that exists are dubious statistical assertions made on the basis of survey results, couched in terms of "may", "possible association", and the most important one, "more study is required".
You forget that until the last five years, humans have been constantly surrounded by smoke since they first discovered fire - think fires in caves, fireplaces in homes, candles and lanterns, etc.
In short, there is no compelling evidence that smoking harms your unborn child and billions of real, live, healthy children born to smoking mothers throughout the past millenium to show otherwise.
How many kids born to smoking mothers do you know? How are they doing? Think about it, don't just listen to the mainstream media - that practice is definitely unhealthy!
