Now That Bush Has Sold Us Out... What are we going to do about it? (vanity)

Posted on 03/13/2002 2:47:41 PM PST by Michael2001

Well I'm mad and I'm angry, and maybe that's why I can't think of an appropriate response. While all of us were prasing him for how he was dealing with the war on terror, Bush passes this Amnesty Bill, something that not even the sneaky Bill Clinton would do. This is one of the worse Bills to pass through Congress, it will hurt us in many ways, and ten years from now we will still be feeling it's effects.

Bush has, without a doubt in my mind, sold us out for the Hispanic vote. He sold us out because he can take our vote for granted (who will we vote for Al Gore?). Is he wrong? What do we do when the Republicans stop looking out for our interests? Is it time for a new party, or do we work within the party and try to root out the Republicans In Name Only (of which there are many)?

Little bit afraid of Hispanics are ya?

Do you see any difference at all between a US citizen Hispanic or a law-abiding immigrant who followed the rules and immigrated legally and the law breakers from another country who do whatever they feel like doing --law or no law? I think it's unfair to lump all Hispanics together and imply every one is illegal.

Once more. Did you read 245(i) and the underlying law?

I don't but I'd definately love to see him prove me wrong. I do know this though, It'll fly thru the senate and definately end up on his desk where he has said he will sign it.

Read your last sentence again. Because the tactic sure seemed to work in California recently much to everyone's surprise.

Remember always....Bush is not the ONLY Republican in town. He may think he is right now but hey, he got a clue with Simon. No reason it can't happen again.

I think the thing to do is start looking around at other pubbies. I know it's an outrageous thing to do; a President with 80+ approval ratings and looking for *another* candidate. But hey, if the 80+ is majorly coming from the OTHER side, then are you being served?

As if *we* have no power, give me a break.

The generic *we* can certainly find another Bill Simon. Who beat Riordan coming from 18 points behind. THIS from the very liberal California state. There's other pubbies beyond Bush. But first you gotta get beyond the shock factor. You gotta think outside the box by thinking *inside* the box. As in.....find another guy! This is how it's done. And if the pressure could be brought to bear, it'd be a major statement about the power of the "little guy"; us minions who carry this country on our back and are for once, darn it, NOT going to be sold down the river. It was bad enough letting Clinton sell us down the river but our own party/idealogy?

So who's the "other guy"?

Yeah, sure, they're exactly the same. Who needs Defense? Or lower taxes. And I think we don't have enough species on the endangered list. I want more restrictions on my property! I don't need guns. Reparations! Repartions! < /sarcasm >

Those DU'ers looove people like you. You know, I kinda wish there were more true believers on the left, you know, ones that actually abandoned the Clintons on welfare reform. But I guess Dems play to win. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mole or two on this forum who are inciting things against Bush by encouraging folks to "teach Bush a lesson." Oh, it's not a good idea to misrepresent the truth to attempt to convince people to help elect a Dem on this forum. Smells like something's rotten on FR.

When is an amnesty not an amnesty? According to many around here it's when Bush proposes it. Clintonian.

For a lot of Mexicans, paying $1,000 is too small a price for the myriad advantages and entitlements of U.S. citizenship. And don't think they won't pay it. They're accustomed to work, unlike many others in this country, and they can save when it's important to them. That value extends to many of their relatives who might also chip in to foot the bill.

The family ties provision in the bill helps, but when these families include as many as ten or more children ...

Why doesn`t he hold his breath too. You need to read all that the bill does and try to imagine what would happen if the government tried to throw all of the out. My grandmother came here illegally from Norway 65 years ago. Are you going to toss her out. Time folks did a little thinking instead of thinking a little.

I can only hope he knows something we don't

I hope you're right. Right now this is looking like a certain type of racism that says based on your skin color or ethnicity, you can break the laws others are expected to obey. I don't think this amnesty is meant for Canadians, Ugandans, Englishmen, Chinese or anyone who isn't from Mexico. That's about as racist as it can be.

Oh please. This amnesty thing is almost as bad as the Libertarian absolutism you get here on occation.

What, do we want to start a refugee crisis in Mexico?

Do we want to take a chunk out of our economy?

Do we want to piss off Mexican-americans, or do we want to wedge them in the next election?

Yes, it would be more satisfying to have tight border controls before we have amnesty and/or a guest worker program, but that ain't how real world politics works.

If Bush can get tighter border controls and some voter fraud control, it will be worth amnesty to every single wetback in the U.S. If he can wedge the Mexican-Americans, we win in the next election.

Bush and his advisors are pros. They play to win. I am going to trust Dubya on this one.

I have my hopes Bush does good on the CFR bill. THAT'S THE BIG TEST!

No, the big test for any Commander in Chief is the defense of this country and President Bush is passing with flying colors. Clinton/Gore/Daschle failed that test miserably resulting in dead Americans all around the globe. The choice is crystal clear to me.

PS: I call the White House every couple of days urging a veto of CFR but I am not throwing Bush from the train if he signs it.

How much did fruits and vegies cost before the mass invasion started? Think about it. When I was a kid my parents sent me out to the Strawberry/Blueberry/Garlic fields every summer to work. My kids can't even get into those places any more. And no, Strawberries have not gotten cheaper since then.

President Bush didn't pass anything, it is his responsibility to sign or not sign the bill that was passed by our esteemed legislature and I don't believe President Bush has done either yet.

You have the right attitude however. If a candidate you voted for does not follow your dictates to the letter, vote for a flaming idealogue who would put drug legalization ahead of national security on his/her platform. /sarccasm off/ And for good measure, you'd have a hand in electing a real socialist like Gore or Hillary.

I'm not pleased with everything that has occurred during the year-long George Bush tenure, but he's had a heck of a lot on his plate, and has handled himself well.

We would all love to have our own personal President, but remember, not even half of his appointments have been approved or even considered by the partisan democrats, the same partisans who would be destroying our country if they held the presidency.

Well, that will certainly improve things.

Maybe a swift kick in the head is what America really needs. Maybe things do need to get worse politically before things will get better. I agree with this guy, the fedgov is selling us out. We have been betrayed.

We are suppose to be a nation of laws, and a sovereign nation.

I honestly believe that if President Bush wanted all the millions of illegals deported or was totally against this insane amnesty, almost every single Bush supporter on this great forum would agree with him.

In my opinion, something is very wrong with this picture.

Why doesn`t he hold his breath too.

You can stop insulting my father. He is a 3 war veteran and is certainly entitled to his opinion. He gave more to this country than your type ever did.
