Now That Bush Has Sold Us Out... What are we going to do about it? (vanity)

Posted on 03/13/2002 2:47:41 PM PST by Michael2001

Well I'm mad and I'm angry, and maybe that's why I can't think of an appropriate response. While all of us were prasing him for how he was dealing with the war on terror, Bush passes this Amnesty Bill, something that not even the sneaky Bill Clinton would do. This is one of the worse Bills to pass through Congress, it will hurt us in many ways, and ten years from now we will still be feeling it's effects.

Bush has, without a doubt in my mind, sold us out for the Hispanic vote. He sold us out because he can take our vote for granted (who will we vote for Al Gore?). Is he wrong? What do we do when the Republicans stop looking out for our interests? Is it time for a new party, or do we work within the party and try to root out the Republicans In Name Only (of which there are many)?

As I said on another thread, here is what my dad is doing:

My dad said he's mailing back the RNC membership survey in the postage paid envelope (minus donation) and is putting "Stop rewarding illegal immigrants" as the answer to D) In general, what do you think should be the top priority for the Republican National Committee in 2002?

Conservatives won't vote for Algore or any other liberal but they will likely stay home. What's a shame is that the illegals that will have their citizenship handed to them on a silver platter will register with the RATS and vote that way too.

Did you see Bush's news conference earlier today, when he clearly said "NO BLANKET AMNESTY"? Hey, I'll scream as loudly as you, if he signs such a bill into law. Today's comments sounded as though he was thoroughly pissed at the House of Representatives over the immigration issue - and at the Senate for holding up judicial appointments.

We're not as informed as Bush is. Everything about this stinks to high heaven in my book, but I'm still waiting for the President to articulate his reasonings. Maybe some of them can't be circulated for political reasons. I will say this, however: Bush knows that Latinos tend to vote democrat; he knows that that demographic here is disproportionately unproductive and that too many of them form their own Spanish-speaking enclaves rather than assimilate into mainstream America; he has the stats about the disproportionate costs Latinos burden America with.

I can only hope he knows something we don't, and that he'll get the word out to his conservative supporters before too many are alienated and confused enough to not even bother to vote or else vote for impotent candidates.

The 1986 amnesty was the biggest mistake of the Reagan administration.

I've read 245(i) in its entirety and it is not an "amnesty" bill. It's fine to disagree with the contents of the bill, but at least be honest about what it actually contains... otherwise, with the premise flawed, the debate is useless.

Another aside: voting for a third party candidate or not voting at all isn't helpful. We don't live in an ideal world and one must live with the fact that elected officials cannot possibly please all of us all of the time. The best approach is the realistic one... would you rather have a democrat in office? If yes, then go ahead and do whatever it is you need to do.

I really doubt that 245(i) will have much impact on the illegal-alien population.

245(i) is hardly "amnesty" - or there would hardly be such a huge population of illegals now here, a very high share of whom were here when 245(i) ended last spring!

Most illegals - Mexican border-skippers - just don't legally qualify for 245(i). They lack the required family ties.

History proves that 245(i) is a boon for Asian grad students who overstay student visas and marry some dumb American - not for Mexican border-skippers lacking both the $1,000 fee and the dumb gringa wife.

Don't you get it yet. No issue, plural or singular will ever convince the centrists here that they have actually left conservatism in support of whoever happens to be the Republican in power!

Issues? When did that ever matter to these groupies?

I think there are illegal immigrants from many countries, cultures, ethnicities and religions. Does this law specifically refer to hispanics?

Some of us hated Libertarian sorts warned you conservatives about this, but you fell back to your rants about "libertines". Well here you go, steel tariffs, campaign finance reform, illegal immigration, folded on the stimulus package to the Dems, won Kyoto back then folded like a wet noodle, folded on executive orders, folded on vouchers. Bush IS better than Gore, that's why we voted for him. But Spam is better than fried cockroaches and I still complain.
Tell the truth, if Libertarians are libertines, then Conservatives are worse, just a bunch of Democrats in drag.

"My initial reaction is to vote for a third party candidate and hope if he gets enough votes, and it causes the Republicans to lose the presidency it will send them a message."

Yup, a repeat of 1992 when the staunch conservatives help to elect Bill Clinton (this is the only thing I hold against Rush). I guess you all figure that Hillary will do a better job. The conversatives punished Bush (41) because of "Read my lips" and they gave America a big fat lip with the Clintons.

We have the Democrats that are 100% wrong.

We SHOULD have Republicans that are 100% RIGHT!

That way we can at least STAY EVEN at 50%. But when it is a Republican President, we should be GAINING on issues, at 70-80%.

But thats NOT whats happening! We have a 100% WRONG Democratic party, and a 50% WRONG (if not more) Republican Party, which averages out to 75% WRONG, going downhill. Maybe we are not going downhill FAST, but downhill all the same.

I have my hopes Bush does good on the CFR bill. THAT'S THE BIG TEST!

This whole debate is about ignorance. Think about just how much fruits and vegatables would cost each and every one of us if illegals were not picking them...

People need to think before they go off half cocked.
