Bush hasn't changed, but our perceptions have

As President Bush prepares for his State of the Union address next week, I am preparing myself for a night of media elites discussing how much the president has "grown" since setting up house on Pennsylvania Avenue.

They have discussed his "growing" spurt countless times since Sept. 11, and I feel certain the subject will surface again during the traditional year-opening televised address Tuesday.

Indeed, our president appears larger than life these days. His approval numbers are through the roof, and his leadership in recent months has left all of us a little breathless. But any claims of "growth" where Mr. Bush is concerned are erroneous at best.

After all, when a person "grows," he becomes something different. He develops abilities that he didn't possess. He discovers new skills and new strengths. He is a new and improved individual.

Mr. Bush isn't "new and improved." He might seem that way to those who considered him a midget to begin with, but he isn't.

He is the same man who raised his right hand and took the oath of office on a frigid Jan. 20, 2001.

A man of character, courage and calm. A man who loves his country and trusts his God.

A strong man. A sensible man. Honest. Genuine. Decisive.

A man who respects his wife and adores his children. A man who gives honor to whom honor is due.

A charming man. Humble. Solid. Warm.

A man who abhors evil and embraces good. A compassionate man. A confident man.

A man with a track record of finding common ground with those of differing opinions. A man who brings people together.

A man capable of changing his behavior and learning from past mistakes.

A man who takes responsibility for past mistakes.

No passing the buck. No twisting the truth. No pointing fingers at someone else. Mr. Bush takes responsibility for the things he does and the words he speaks.

Occasionally, the words he speaks are a bit challenging to unravel, but he isn't deterred. He would rather speak the truth with a fuzzy tongue than speak lies with a tongue of silk.

He is who he is. He likes who he is. And he won't be silenced by those in the press who seek to portray him as a bumbling idiot, one drumstick shy of a blue-plate special.

He doesn't worry about a legacy, steal credit or pine for praise. He believes that America is great because of its people, not its president.

In his recent appearance at a John Deere factory in East Moline, Ill., he said, "I understand the great strength of our country. And it is the people."

Thus, in the aftermath of Sept. 11, he didn't rush to ground zero to hog the cameras, steal the spotlight or make a splash. He didn't need to. He is a true leader, and true leaders require no cameras to lead. They just lead, and the cameras follow.

So don't be duped. Despite the media elites' obvious amazement at Mr. Bush's soaring stature these days, he hasn't "grown" since taking office – not even an inch. It just has been a long time since so vast a shadow radiated from the West Wing of the White House, and the media elites simply forgot how tall a good man stands.

Amen to that. Great article.

I'm preparing myself for the Official Reinstatement of Jefferson Adams' more-or-less-annual "Rape of the Union Address Report," which achieved worldwide popularity (well, almost) and notoriety (sort of) during Krinton's administration. I hoped it wouldn't be required anymore and took last year off. But it's gonna definitely be back, with a vengeance.

FNC just showed Bush walking to AF1. He had a copy of "Bias" under his arm. LOL!

I figger he did this on purpose. He could have put the book in his briefcase. He could have given to book to someone to carry it for him. He could have.... Yeppers, Dubya's flipping the bird to the media. Understated as always. Gotta love it!!

But it's gonna definitely be back, with a vengeance.

Of course, it ain't gonna be popular in these here parts, amongst the Bush Worshippers, but those of us who love freedom and can see things like the "Patriot" act and the Office of Homeland Security for what they really are have a slightly different take on Mr. New World Order's son.

Who knows, I might even mention Pipelineistan.

And the Mexican truckers :)

And the millions of illegal aliens.

And the fact that he sez NAFTA is a Good Thing.

And the fact that the Constitution seems to mean very little to him.

Like I said, some won't like it.

But Truth is Truth.

And some of us just value freedom too much to allow ourselves to be fooled.

Well, for one, I think it is a good thing that Democrats' rabid attempts since February 2000 to paint Bush as a light-weight, brain-less, buffoon who's a stooge to "rich corporate heads" has come back to bite them very hard.

They've been at this with a ravenous fury for almost 2 years now and they're reaping their just rewards for it.

The Democrats have only themselves to thank for reducing the expectations about Bush to below-ground level. Now that it turns out that he sits pretty tall in the saddle and deals effectively with issues far beyond anything the Democrats could even imagine, those lowered expectations from the endless RAT propoganda make him look as if he's one of the all-time giants ever in this country.

They did it to themselves -- but I doubt they learned anything.

This much trust in any politician is very dangerous. And there are plenty of areas of concern: considering expanding food stamps for legal immigrants, supporting far left-wingers like Richard Riordan, defending affirmative action, throwing more money into public education and AIDS czars that believe in clean needles, condoms and gay marriage.

"How tall a good man stands". Something that I hope to teach my children, should myself and Mrs. Cut be so blessed.

By example.

Nice article! Warmed my heart!

"It just has been a long time since so vast a shadow radiated from the West Wing of the White House, and the media elites simply forgot how tall a good man stands."

Ain't it the truth! And, to paraphrase Hugh Sidey, President Bush didn't all of a sudden get a brain transplant.

He believes that America is great because of its people, not its president.

That, I believe, is the clue to just who this man is .... and why he has accomplished all that he has. And it's the same quality that motivated and inspired Ronald Reagan also.

The President can only do so much ..... no matter how great a man he is, he is still only one man. But a leader who believes in the inherent goodness, yes! even greatness, of others and who encourages them can lead many into performing great things .... and the country moves forward. Those who believe that we are all idiots who don't know how to spend our own money or make our own decisions drag us down.

God bless President Bush!

By way of explanation .....

This post is not to a ping list per se but is to place the thread on a bump list. Anyone can then go to the Bump List Register and find threads thus indexed (on this and a myriad of other topics).

To find the Bump List Register please go HERE

You can save that site in your browser's Bookmarks or Favorites and easily access it any time.

Anyone can add a thread to any of those topics by typing in the correct bump list name in the To box of a reply.

A Ping List is to specific individuals ..... a Bump List is to a topic.

I've always wondered why President Bush is considered a moron because of the way he talks... And why Quale was considered a moron because of the things that he said...

...but a Democrat BARNEY FRANK is continually considered a upstanding leader.

Outstanding point! .... and what about Uncle Teddy and the way he just plain drifts off into gibberish at times .... but his every (understandable) word is hung on like it's the most wonderful thing ever uttered!
