So, the Pope says "Feed them" even if they are in worse shape than Terri Schiavo, who is not comatose or in a persistent vegetative state, or for that matter, not physically or mentally ill, either.

Since Terri is a Catholic, it seems like the courts are denying Terri's religious rights too.

Thank you for your ping. Even though I have read about this before, this new article is giving me encouragement to write more letters. We must work to get the laws changed so that it is a crime to remove the feeding tubes from people in so-called vegetative states.
What I hate is the way some in the media want to make it sound like everyone will stay alive indefinitely on feeding tubes. They forget that people who refuse other types of medical intervention will likely die of heart, lung, kidney, or some other major organ failure.
If Terri doesn't get euthanized by Michael first, she will probably eventually die from some type of organ failure when her real time comes.

Can you lead me to the link for the first part of your article? I was able to get to the 2nd part on the Life Issues Forum, but I can't find the part before that. I'd like to send a link to my family so that they can enjoy this well-written article, too! TY in advance!

We must work to get the laws changed so that it is a crime to remove the feeding tubes from people in so-called vegetative states. Stricter laws would be good, but what they're doing to Terri is already illegal. The laws are not being enforced. Florida law defines Persistent Vegetative State (I can't access it right now without my stupid computer crashing again.) The courts (Judge Greer, was it?) defied the law by declaring Terri to be PVS, in spite of the fact that every doctor desribed her condition as inconsistent with the legal definition of PVS. Even the doctors who stated that she was PVS (according to their own definition) described her condition as being inconsistent with a legal diagnosis of PVS. The law is very specific about what PVS is, and every doctor agrees Terri's condition does not fall within that definition.

You are absolutely right! There are so many laws that are being broken in poor Terri's case it boggles the mind!

I just went to http://www.terrisfight.org/, and they have the following message posted.
----------
On April 20, 2004, Attorney Deborah Bushnell (who represents Michael Schiavo) faxed a letter to Attorney Barbara Weller (who represents Bob and Mary Schindler, Terri's parents).
In that letter, Ms. Bushnell stated that Terri has had five teeth extracted.
Ms. Bushnell offered no reasonable explanation of why this was done, if Terri was appropriately anesthetized, what follow-up care is being prescribed nor if any restorative dental work was to be provided to her.
For years, in court, Terri's family has argued that Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo had not provided her proper dental care - among other things. Now, Terri has had five teeth removed.
As of this writing, it is unknown what, if anything, is being done to address this problem. Terri's parents are unable to get clear information regarding their daughter's condition.
It is important to note that many citizens of Florida had contacted the Department of Children and Families in March, 2004. In formal complaints, citizens informed the department that Terri had two teeth missing and a decubitus ulcer (bedsore). On April 1, 2004 the department investigated the allegations of abuse and, in formal responses dated April 6, 2004, they state that claims of neglect were "unsubstantiated".
----------
Is this news? Or is it just news to me? If it's news, please get out the ping lists.

wow! GOOD ONE!

But what are the odds the U.S. Cardinals and Bishops will honestly put the Pope's ruling into practice?
They don't seem to report to the Pope anymore.
They seem to report to no one but themselves.
