on hold with the VA for almost a full hour post op complications, maybe neighbor said my wounds are warm, they are all asking me to go to ER VA finally answers. I was so angry, I told her I was waiting 55 minutes for someone to answer the phone, what is going on?? she said, "Do you need any help from me?" I said, "I am not sure, I think I might need to go to the ER." She said, "Well, then, just go." Didn't want to discuss symptoms with me at all, anything about my condition, nothing to reassure or confirm me, just, "Well then, just go." The VA is a criminal organization that does not provide adequate care for veterans, and it cannot be fixed.
It’s the administration that’s at fault. IMHO
Do you have a temp?
Do you have angry redness around the incision?
Do you have more pain?
Any doubt. Go to the ER.
YES.
I’m sorry to hear that. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with the VA for anything, but I do have to deal with Tricare since my retirement. The only thing good about it is I can go to the San Antonio Military Medical Center, formally BAMC. Just had an emergency appendectomy on Thanksgiving day and they were superb. After care was awesome and I had a situation similar to yours and the floor nurse was great answering my questions post op when I called a few days later.
The VA is too busy to help you.
The executives are all looking at how to get $200,000 for moving expenses.
This how I felt the day after .... I attributed to the Tylenol in the Loratabs I was given when I was discharged. Tylenol always makes me feverish. I keep an eye on the wounds and IV points. Look for signs of infection. Infection at this point isn’t good. It’s generally staph. In this case you want to be seen as soon as you can be.
But I am not a doctor.
Not a VA thing, if you are calling about a potentially serious medical condition, the answer is always go to the ER. Unless you are calling your doctor’s office and they have an opening but they will also frequently say go to the ER too.
Go to the ER. Potential septic infection in the bely is not something to wait and see about.
If the incision is red and hot go to the the emergency room.
GO TO THE ER!
Go to the ER
I had to put my husband in the Columbia VA while I got cancer treatment. He developed open wounds, which they refused to treat. If he’d had to stay there much longer, I think he would have lost a leg.
Set your mind to rest. Go to the ER. If it isn’t anything serious, you’ll be home to sleep in your bed tonight. I put off going to the ER thinking I was experiencing a reaction to an antibiotic I had just started taking. I waited two more days, and although the symptoms had diminished, I decided to ease my mind, and drove to the ER at 2 a.m. It’s a good thing I did because I had a perforated bowel, and required major surgery.
& prayers that you feel better soon.
Race - I’m glad you’re escalating the medical attention you need.
The VA delivers bad care, because there is no consequence for their gross negligence.
Fellow CT March on Htfd & DC bro, don’t put up with their lax attitude toward your complaint.
Since this sounds serious, consider going to a Real Major hospital even if you don’t have coverage.
The VA cures and kills vets and their local and national administration gov’t employees don’t seem to care either way as long as they can retire fat, dumb and happy.
Sorry to hear about your situation, hope things turn for the better ASAP.
When I read this, my first thought is that there is no way they would tell you NOT to go to the ER once you said you might need it. There’s just too much danger in having them tell you not to go to the ER. And even if the person you were (finally) talking to was a doctor, they still can’t examine you over the phone.
You should go to ER. This doesn’t sound like how you should be feeling. My dad had perforated bowel after a kidney surgery and it was like that except that additionally his belly began to swell. He was on a respirator andunconscious for a month. Don’t wait.
