Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
(SD) I don't think I've ever come close to suggesting otherwise. We covered this two or three days ago. Actions toward a religious item do not terminate there, but move on towards the person being signified.
Maybe that was part of the Catechism you just didn't bother to read.
To which I replied: "And maybe I did and decided it belonged to the "plausibility of denial" category."
There is no Catholic Catechism teaching which has a certain enough meaning that it cannot be denied or re-interpreted as needed.
I admit this was a hasty response. It would be more accurate as follows" There is no Catholic teaching which has a certain enough meaning that it cannot be denied or re-interpreted as needed."
There. That's better. It should be noted there was nothing personal in my answer. It was directed to the institution, not an individual. Of course it is obvious you sometimes believe you are the Catholic Church, and speak authoritatively for the institution. Be assured when I speak of the Catholic Church I think of you as one, and only one, member and don't associate you and the Catholic Church as one and the same. Truth be known, I even think the Pope is more important than you.
I imagine you have no problem with some poor person praying to a statue and actually believing the statue will help them. After all, the prayer will automatically be directed to the right place. Right?
Maybe I owe you an explaination of what I mean by "plausibility of denial".
The Catholic Church is a massive burearocracy and, with all the man made additions of "tradition" over the centuries, has been forced to write millions of words to "explain" the various and sometimes conflicting teachings of the Popes and "magisterium". This, of course, can lead to confusion.
Some poor silly fool may actually think the Church teaches Peter was the rock of the Church. Another may think Peter is the Rock upon which the Church is built. Another may think it is Peter's confession of faith which is the rock. The sad thing is, they may get different answers from different "teachers". Oh well. Just ask Dave. He knows.
Another example which I recall is the confusion over Canon Law. To refresh your memory (I'm sure you remember Cardinal Law) there was confusion over the actual control the Cardinal had over the real estate in the Diocese. Did he have the authority? Did he not? What limited his authority to buy or sell assets? Oh! We have Canon Law which covers the situation.
Allow me to quote from an article in the Boston Pilot. (Official newspaper for the Ardiocese of Boston):
When asked if Cardinal Bernard Law could possibly sell properties and land owned by the archdiocese, Father Coyne said, If he were to do so, according to Canon Law, if that would happen, it would have to be done in consultation with the parish community.
Under civil law the cardinal, as a corporation sole, is considered the owner of the property, however, under Canon Law there are different rules and laws the cardinal must abide by. The spokesman said that under Canon Law the cardinal cannot just come in and decide to take possession of properties and sell it. The property is part of the parish. It is constructed and funded specifically for and by the community of the faithful, and for that purpose.
Archdiocese of Boston from the August 30, 2002 Edition of The Pilot
For the record, there were varying opinions from "Canon Law Experts" and the question was never answered.
What do you suppose happened here? Is the confusion contained in the Catechism and the Code of Canon Law a deliberate thing or simply the result of bureaucratic confusion?
Ok. I'll do the best I can with the limited amount of time I've had lately. I could start by saying we'll all start observing it sooner or later.
Isaiah 66
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall ALL FLESH come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
We gonna do that tourney pick em contest again?
Ezekiel 20 (JPS)
(20) and hallow My sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am YHWH your God.
Exodus 31 (JPS)
(13) 'Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying: Verily ye shall keep My sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am YHWH who sanctify you.
Exo 31 (JPS)
(16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
(17) It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever; for in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He ceased from work and rested.'
Exodus 20
(8) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
(9) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
(10) but the seventh day is a sabbath unto YHWH thy God, in it thou shalt not do any manner of work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates;
(11) for in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day; wherefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Pope Declares the Sabbath Should Not Be Observed:
From Sabbath to Sunday, by Samuele Bacchiocchi, Ph. D., Andrews University, Chapter 6, page 194, copyright 1977, published by the The Pontifical Gregorian University Press, Rome, 1977."If every Sunday is to be observed joyfully by the Christians on account of the resurrection, then every Sabbath on account of the burial is to be regarded in execration of the Jews (exsecratione Judaeorum). In fact all the disciples of the Lord had a lamentation on the Sabbath, bewailing the buried Lord, and gladness prevailed for the exulting Jews. But sadness reigned for the fasting apostles. In like manner we are sad with the saddened by the burial of the Lord, if we want to rejoice with them in the day of the Lords resurrection. In fact, it is not proper to observe [the sabbath], because of Jewish customs, the consumption of food (destructiones ciborum) and the ceremonies of the Jews"85 - Pope Sylvester (A.D. 314-335).
2175 Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath.
Ive started several letters, but they were so long and personal I had to stop, and now Ill see if I can explain whats taken place in as few words as possible.
I had explained that Ginny was having medication problems, but on Feb the 17th, Monday, Ginny checked herself back into the hospital Geriatrics ward because her doctor and another Neurologist believed she was in the early stages of Altzhimers.
We had stopped her medication for over 5 days and there was no improvement what so ever, so we started her back on them again so she wouldnt be suffering with Wegeners along with the Alzheimers..
After she was back in the hospital 5 days and hadnt been lucid for more then a few minutes at a time, I asked the duty social worker, why their had been no change since she had been in there?
She said, Ive been around these people a long time and to be honest I see all the signs of Alzheimers in your wife.
I said but there was no warning. How could she go from not having it, to suddenly be in the midst of it? President Reagan, and Charlton Heston, saw it coming, and were able to make long term plans before it disabled them. Weve had no warning.
She explained that her two months of sickness before they were able to identify the Wegneres possibly brought it on in full.
I went home to the worse night and worse 3 days of my life.
It was three days later when I was talking to the head nurse, and I asked her that since there is no treatment for Alzheimers, why waste time keeping her there, why not release her and let us get on with what we have to do?
She said. Im not so sure it is Alzheimers. I still think its the medication.
I explained how we had completely taken her off all medication for 5 days, and there was no change in her what so ever.
She said. I was on Prednsone for 7 days, and I thought I was going crazy. I had to go off of it, and it took me over a month before it left my system and I got back to normal, so her not having it for only 5 days proved nothing.
Ginny had been on 60mgs of Prednsone a day. They had cut back to 20mgs, and the nurse talked to the doctor and convinced him that it takes time for the effects to wear off, so within a few more days they had her cut down to 5mgs a day.
Prednsone is a Steroid, and even though I had searched over 30 sites under Prednsone Side Effects, I had been unable to find one single site that warned about the possible mental problems that could come from its use.
All they cautioned about were physical side effects, and I am really upset about that, and am going to make sure others know what can happen.
Any way, two days later she had improved over 40%, and in a couple more days, they were wondering why she was still in the hospital, but since it was the weekend, they had to wait until Monday so her doctor could release her.
I brought her home Monday, March the 1st, a week ago tomorrow, and she has been improving every day.
Shes still weak and needs to get her body built up again, but Ive got my honey back finally, and Im so thankful to God and all the many prayers that were brought to God for her.
He is surly a wonderful loving Father, and has complete control over every facet of our lives.
Thanks again for all your prayers, and please continue to thank Him for being in our lives.
Jim and Ginny
