Rome's Challenge: Why do Protestants Keep Sunday? (Its not in the Bible, she changed it and wants her credit)

Most Christians assume that Sunday is the biblically approved day of worship. The Roman catholic church protests that it transferred Christian worship from the biblical Sabbath (Saturday) to Sunday, and that to try to argue that the change was made in the Bible is both dishonest and a denial of Catholic authority. If Protestantism wants to base its teachings only on the Bible, it should worship on Saturday.

I wonder why one would start with Saturday versus Sunday worship. That isn't a deal breaker with God.

Because it's the very definition of sin. It's an unrepentant violation and rejection of the 4th commandment among others.

The Lord God does not close his ears to those who pray on an “Unauthorized” day.

I live in an area infested with Sabbath day worshipers. I have had people needing help come to my house on Saturday because they got none from the Sabbath worshipers as they were “keeping the Sabbath” and could not help those in need of help.

Exactly. Practicing Protestants love Jesus. Practicing Catholics love Jesus. The rest is details, and that’s where the Devil is.

>> So the authority of the church includes the authority to change the Ten Commandments? yes or no will do. Thank u. <<

A syllogism based on an impossible predicate is meaningless. The Church has established the new will of God; if you deem that the “authority” to “change” the Ten Commandments, then yes. But if a Pope awoke and decided that it’d be fine to worship an Amazonian demon-goddess, then that Pope would be an anti-pope, and his actions should give warning to all Catholics that he is not to be followed.

Huh? Going to Mass on Sunday is an obligation for Catholics and they are supposed to confess it if they don’t go.

The weirdo VII permitted a Saturday evening “vigil mass” (which can be as early as noon on Saturday in some places) for people too lazy to go on Sundays. I think it was a big mistake, but then, a lot of VII things were a serious mistake or a serious attack on orthodoxy, depending on your view.

Thanks.

That came to mind as well.

There is also Romans 14.

Romans 14:1-12 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written,

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

You know, this is a little like watching Foreman Frazier. Rome just keeps smashing sunday keeping Protestants with the Bible they claim to follow. I mean just read this!

It’s not even a TKO.....this is Tyson like KOs....read:

Quote from Rome:

Having proved to a demonstration that the Redeemer, in no instance, had, during the period of His life, deviated from the faithful observance of the Sabbath (Saturday), referred to by the four evangelists fifty-one times, although He had designated Himself “Lord of the Sabbath,” He never having once, by command or practice hinted at a desire on His part to change the day by the substitution of another and having called special attention to the conduct of the apostles and the holy women, the very evening of His death, securing beforehand spices and ointments to e used in embalming His body the morning after the Sabbath (Saturday) as St. Luke so clearly informs us (Luke 24:1), thereby placing beyond peradventure, the divine action and will of the son of God during life by keeping the Sabbath steadfastly; and having called attention to the action of His living representatives after His death, as proved by St. Luke, having also placed before our readers the indisputable fact that the apostles for the following thirty years (Acts) never deviated from the practice of their divine Master in this particular, as St. Luke , Acts 18:1) assures us: “And he [Paul] reasoned in the synagogues every Sabbath (Saturday, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.” The Gentile converts were, as we see from the text, equally instructed with the Jews, to keep the Saturday, having been converted to Christianity on that day, “the Jews and the Greeks” collectively.

> You people keep making up stuf...it’s as if you don’t
> study the Bible much.

Yes, because ad hominem will win the day for you.

We study the Bible PLENTY.

I used to keep sabbath, and exactly 10% tithe. Then I started getting into keeping the feasts. Then there were the proscriptions for what you can do on Shabbat.

How many steps do you take on the Sabbath Day? Do you start your car? Do you turn on the light switches?

Do you keep all the feasts? Do you sacrifice the Bullocks and lambs? Do all your menfolk present themselves to the priests in Israel 3 times a year?

Then I came across this ..
Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
~ Ex 35:3

OK, so it’s February and about 10 deg F outside. How do we keep warm?

Those laws were made for a different people, in a different place, at a different time, for a different reason.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
~ Romans 14:5

Sounds like you doubt that Christ was resurrected on Sunday (8th day).
It’s in the Bible, throughout the Gospel accounts.

“I have not come to abolish the Law, but fulfill it”
The Sabbath commandment was fulfilled in Christ and His resurrection was the beginning of His New Testament.

As stated by others:

“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a SABBATH.”

Your pretentious sophistry is a attempt to make others a twofold child of hell as yourself.

She even points out...the Sabbath for “Jews and Greeks (gentiles) collectively!”

This is better honest pure Bible theology than any protestant theology on the Sabbath issue, I have ever read. It’s so honest, it’s deep, it’s an exegesis, it’s thorough and it’s in context. Bravo to whoever wrote this......this Bible scholarship does not exist today .

Rules for thee,
None for me.

While SDA reject all of Paul’s writings, including whereupon he says one day is not more holy than another, they’re unable to reconcile Jesus “working” on the Sabbath, yet remaining sinless.

I love it when a cult manipulates and even rewrites the Word to suit their heresy, yet the very same Word still condemns their very doctrine.

I had a special delight when the JWs came around and I had a copy of their distorted “version” on my shelf. I’d ask, is Jesus your Savior?...”yes” is their reply. Then I’d ask; “is Jesus God”?...”No” is their reply. Then I’d open THEIR version to Isaiah 43:11...you know...the part of the Bible where they get the name of their cult and read it to them.

Beginning in verse one, through verse ten, the text clearly demonstrates that this is Jehovah speaking. Verse ten is where the cult gets their name.

10Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

Then I’d ask them to reconcile verse eleven with the doctrine they were taught.

They’d always get angry.

But, it planted a seed
