Fear Of Bible Prophecy May Be A ‘Natural Response,’ But It’s Not Biblical

The world is entering a time unlike any we have ever seen. No, we are not just entering it, we are neck-deep in it. I have been watching, waiting, analyzing, and digging into prophetic studies for decades.

But not everyone embraces this often weighty topic with joy; in fact, more and more, I get a reaction resembling fear and even panic. The ‘fear factor’ as it relates to prophecy is a very real condition, and I don’t want to make light of it because I don’t take it lightly. Prophetic passages can be very sobering in that human suffering will be ramped up considerably.

But I do want to offer some gentle suggestions to those who struggle with a very real sense of foreboding at the thought that ‘the end is near,’ with its accompanying birth pangs and global tragedies as outlined in the Scriptures.

Over time, I have learned that there are only two responses that stir in the heart of a believer when they hear that time is short, and that the human race is headed for certain “unpleasant” events on our way to redemption and the consummation of all things.

——>God is about to destroy the world by fire (2 Peter 3). **Before He does so, the church will be removed to a place of safety.**

No. The earth is destroyed by fire AFTER the millennium, the resurrection of the wicked, and of course that would mean AFTER the second coming of Christ. (The church is already safe at that point).

Revelation 8
1
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.

3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.

5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

Revelation 9
17 The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur. 18 A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.

Zechariah 13
9This third I will bring through the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’”

Isaiah 24
1See, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth
and devastate it;
he will ruin its face
and scatter its inhabitants—
2 it will be the same
for priest as for people,
for the master as for his servant,
for the mistress as for her servant,
for seller as for buyer,
for borrower as for lender,
for debtor as for creditor.
3 The earth will be completely laid waste
and totally plundered.
The Lord has spoken this word.

4 The earth dries up and withers,
the world languishes and withers,
the heavens languish with the earth.
5 The earth is defiled by its people;
they have disobeyed the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth;
its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,
and very few are left.

Luke 12
49“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!”

Yes, after the Millennium the heavens and the earth will be completely destroyed, but before the end of the Tribulation fire will destroy most of the earth while some of mankind yet remain alive upon it.

Paul says comfort one another with these words - not scare the living poop out of each other with these words. nTo a believer the end times are a comfort not a reason for anxiety and fear

Isaiah 10
16 Therefore the Lord, the Lord of hosts,
Will send leanness among his fat ones;
And under his glory
He will kindle a burning
Like the burning of a fire.
17 So the Light of Israel will be for a fire,
And his Holy One for a flame;
It will burn and devour
His thorns and his briers in one day.
18 And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field,
Both soul and body;
And they will be as when a sick man wastes away.
19 Then the rest of the trees of his forest
Will be so few in number
That a child may write them.

20 And it shall come to pass in that day
That the remnant of Israel,
And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob,
Will never again depend on him who defeated them,
But will depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob,
To the Mighty God.
22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea,
A remnant of them will return;
The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 For the Lord God of hosts
Will make a determined end
In the midst of all the land.

Sorry dude, your strawman or red herring won’t work here.

We are not given into the Spirit of Fear. This message is for people who literally are fearful of what is transpiring in the world, there are a lot of folks worried - you know I’m not, I’m actually LOOKING UP!

You come here to troll my threads with darts and bullets of the enemy to project your disappointment in your once belief in a Pretrib that has let you down (lost faith is probably more accurate).

A shame you behave this way.

We have much hope in Christ for Eternity.

Maranatha!

Very true Mom MD.

There are still a lot of people who are fearful, and I have no idea why. The phrase “Fear Not” is mentioned 365 times in the Bible - I wonder why so often?

Exodus 9: (describing the plague of hail in Egypt…FIRE MINGLED WITH HAIL…)

18Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.

19Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.

20He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:

21And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.

22And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.

23And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

24So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

25And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.

Revelation 16: The last plagues IN ORDER. Compare with Revelation 8.

1And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

2And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

3And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

4And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

5And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

6For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

7And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

8And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

9And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

10And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

11And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

12And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

13And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

17And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

18And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

19And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

20And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Hail is the last plague, and happens just before the return of Jesus Christ. Those with the seal of God are protected. Many of those who are not (have the MOTB) will die from the plagues. Those left after the plagues who do not have the seal of God will be destroyed from the brightness of Christ’s return. Those who have the seal of God will be gathered up by angels to meet Christ in the air and be with Him forever.

——>God is about to destroy the world by fire (2 Peter 3). Before He does so, the church will be removed to a place of safety.
——>Before the end of the Tribulation fire will destroy most of the earth while some of mankind yet remain alive upon it.

Not what the bible teaches.

Peter compares the COMPLETE destruction of the ENTIRE world and ALL the wicked during the flood, with the COMPLETE destruction of the ENTIRE world and ALL the wicked, with fire, at Christ’s second coming. No one is left alive on the earth.

2 Peter 3:
5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

The 6 plagues of Rev 16 do not include fires destroying most of the earth and most of mankind.

Those who have the Seal of God (as opposed to the MOTB) will be protected from the plagues during the tribulation.

“I’m actually LOOKING UP!”

> Since the rapture and 2nd coming are one event, not two events as you believe, the rapture a separate event taking place seven years before the 2nd coming, the “looking up” you refer to, for the “rapture” you believe is about to happen, is premature.

The “looking up,” in context, refers to seeing the signs of the fast approaching heaven and earth catastrophism of the day of the Lord. Then is when “our redemption draweth nigh.” The singular and undivided event of rapture and 2nd coming about to take place. Jesus tells us, it takes place, “after the tribulation of those days,” Matt. 24.

Moreover, and contrary to those who believe our present time is the millennial kingdom, the rapture and 2nd coming singular event is also what ushers in the millennial kingdom:

“So likewise ye, when ye see these thingg come to pass (the aforementiioned heaven and earth catastrophim signs that will close out this age, the day of the Lord), know ye that the kingdom of God is at hand,” Luke 21:31.

The context of the “looking up” verse (verse 28), which you cite, is the singular post-trib event that ushers in the millennial kingdom! As a premillennialist, I know you must believe “the kingdom of God” of verse 31, is the millennial kingdom. Right?

The great singular event of both rapture and 2nd coming, which we are to look up for, ushers in the millennial kingdom!

In previous discussions we have had, I spoke about my position of Historic Premillennialism, which is both post-trib and premillennialist, well here it is in the “looking up” passage of Luke 21 which you have brought to our attention.

“Historic,” as it is the eschatology of the earliest centuries of church history after the apoostles... reflecting the premillennial belief of the early church. “Historic,” also, as distinquished from Amillennialism, and Dispensational Premillennialism, both of which were conjured up later in church history.

I ignored over a dozen verses? As a former pretribber, I know the verses to which you refer, but do you demand for anyone to respond to one of your posts, that he write a book?

Here’s the thing, RWC, for every one of your “proofs,” all you have to do is look at the context. The context, just like in the passage you cited, Luke 21:28, “look up...for your redemption draweth nigh,” is the singular undivided second coming. About which, it appears, if there is ignoring, it is on your part that it is being done. Let’s look at the context, step by step.

1. The great tribulation: “Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled,” 21:24.

2. Then, “there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Verses 25,26.
Jesus tells us in Matt. 24:29-31, “the powers of heaven are shaken” “immediately after the tribulation of those days,” the catastrophic heaven and earth signs of the day of the Lord.

3. This is when the Son of man is “seen coming in a cloud with power and great glory,” verse 27.

4. (verse 28) And the rapture takes place: “When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
What things? The heaven and earth signs he had just described, after the great tribulation. Then is when you look up, for your redemption draweth nigh. Not for a pretrib rapture seven years prior to this.

5. (Verse 31) “When ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand,” verse 31.
The millennial kingdom is about to be ushered in.

6. (Verse 32, 33) “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

The generation that sees the aforementioned heaven and earth signs of coming catastrophe, of which verse 33 refers: “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

7. (verse 34) “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
What day? Not an alleged pretrib rapture some seven years prior, but the day described in the context, when there would be signs of heaven and earth catastrophism, this after the great tribulation, the rapture/2nd coming ushering in the millennial kingdom.

8. (verse 35) “For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.”
Contrary to preterist doctrine, this will affect “the whole earth,” not just Jerusalem and the middle east. Jerusalem being the epicenter of endtime events, which will affect the whole earth.

9. (verse 36) “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

Those of the generation that see all these things, that believe and know their Bibles, that see the approaching heaven and earth catastrophism of the day of the Lord coming upon the whole earth, are commanded to watch, that they escape “these things…and to stand before the Son of man.” What “escape” is this, but the rapture part of the singular undivided event just described?

In the parable of the soils, Matt. 13, sometimes when the good seed is sown the fowls of the heaven devour it. Some seed, because it is in stony ground, and has no deepness of earth, when it comes up the sun scorches and withers it. Some seed falls among thorns, and the thorns choke it down. Then there is the seed that falls among good ground, thank God, the good ground described as “deepness of earth.”

As a former pretribber, I can say when it comes to the subject at hand, most pretribbers are stony ground, very shallow, very superficial. I certainly was. Certainly not the deepness of earth Jesus demands in this parable.
