A pastor from Tennessee who said Democrats couldn’t be Christians because of the party’s pro-choice stance noted that he gave up his tax-exempt status.
Pastor Greg Locke of Mt. Juliet’s Global Vision Bible Church, close to Nashville, told his congregants he considered Democrats to be “baby butchers.”
In a sermon earlier this month, Locke said: “You cannot be a Christian and vote Democrat in this nation. I don’t care how mad that makes you. You can get as pissed off as you want to. You cannot be a Christian and vote Democrat in this nation. They are God-denying demons that butcher babies and hate this nation.”
(snip)
On a Facebook post on Sunday, Locke said that he renounced his tax-exempt status and stood his ground regarding his stance on Democrats.
He added: “Guess what I did this week. I got an attorney, and I dissolved our stinking 501c3 in this church because the Government ain’t gonna tell me what I can and what I can’t say. So, IRS, we don’t need your stupid tax-exempt status. You can put it in a bag and burn it in your front yard for all we care. I renounced 501c3 communism in this church.”

Employees checks. Read the 501c3 law.
FTA Essentially, the preacher says “Democrats cannot be Christian.”
You responded with, “It’s entirely possible to be a bad Christian...”

Maybe, the preacher has a point, though.
I think his point is that willfully voting for anyone who proclaims that killing babies who are in God’s image is in grave danger of Judgment.
2 John 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is PARTAKER OF HIS EVIL DEEDS.
Then, Hebrews 10:25ff says there is no forgiveness for willful sin.
Who is a “good” Christian? “If we walk in the Light as He is in the Light...” That person’s continual mindset is to grow into the image of Christ. The list of this person’s willful sins grows smaller as days go by. Failure to walk in the light sharpens the mind of this person to do even better next time. If so, this person is considered to be sinless by the Lord, 1 John 1:7
Who is a “bad” Christian? Hmmm. This is just a guess, but I imagine willful sin has a lot to do with it. With the idea of the mindset of a “good” Christian in mind, the “bad” Christian takes a timeout now and then, maybe; you know, just to have a little fun.
Perhaps, a synonym of “politician” is “facade.” Voting for a “good” politician who passively okays abortion by not speaking or voting against it, might be just as bad in the eyes of the Lord.
The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats finds Christians feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, etc. How would this sequence sound? We find Christians who are visiting the sick, giving drink to the thirsty, killing babies in the womb...
The Lord’s own words:
Luke 12
47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with MANY STRIPES.
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with FEW STRIPES. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
This may not be so eloquent or “churchy” to say, but it’s great to see a pastor with a pair in this day and age.
May God bless him and keep him strong!
Is this helpful?
From the Amplified version
9 No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because [a]God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him.
To me the key words are habitually, deliberately
good stuff northstar. I know things like this rattle people’s cages but, frankly, we are long past needing our cages rattled. It is time for all of us to take a stand, one way or the other. Make a decision as to who we follow. We’re all just accustomed to weak, spineless, dry and dead church leadership that when someone actually takes a position, all heck breaks loose.
We need more of this.
Yeah, well we can all think it even if decorum restricts speaking it.
True, but can you sit at your keyboard and tell me by what standard YOU use to rank sins?
Oh?
Was Caesar considered to be a god or not?
And I was merely illustrating how media is feeding mushy minds the ‘kewlness’ of being a homosexual.
I just did.
I didn't see anything about WAGES paid to employees.
What Dixon did was FAIL to withhold taxes from his employees, saying they could deal with the government(s) on their own.
AFAIK none of the employees failed to pay taxes.
The feds were miffed because Dixon did not jump thru the right hoops, NOT with the 'fact' that taxes were not paid.
How about
gonadally enhanced?
As a young preacher’s wife in the ‘40s, my mom was aghast when she learned that a church member was a Democrat. She blurted out, “But you CAN’T be a Christian and be a democrat!” That was 70 years ago.
frank zappa, back before the turn of the millenium, recorded a song, namely, ‘slime oozing ouut of your tv set.’
if you have never heard it, it is there on youtube!
there was airing of this song on very old saturday night live, complete with chalkboard with all the lyrics!!
have fun!
Did I tell you what standard to use? Sheesh, I am a Christian and I have to say some ‘Christians’ here can be annoying.
I said I like what the preacher said, specifically that he was correct in calling out ‘Christians’ who approve or promote abortion. You call out sin when you see it.
And a bunch of fellows ‘Christians’ want to criticize that? Or maybe they just need better reading comprehension skills.
No; but it sounded to me like you implied one.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your reply.
I know thAT i do from time to time.
I'll reply in haste and almost as soon as I hit SEND I realize I took it ALL the wrong way.
Yes, thanks. And, further, defiant irreverence against the holy spirit, the spirit of truth, is considered the unforgivable sin.
