Evangelicals Now Outnumber Catholics in Honduras, According to Survey

More Hondurans describe themselves as evangelicals (46%) than as Catholics (38%) in a survey conducted by Paradigma, a Honduran research group.

According to a standard reference source, the Central American nation of 9.2 million (map) is 96% Christian (and 71% Catholic).

Archbishop Gábor Pintér, apostolic nuncio in Honduras, said in a recent interview that Honduras has maintained a Christian culture and that 95% of Hondurans are baptized Catholics. He linked the rise of evangelicalism to a shortage of priests: evangelical churches, he said, typically have a permanent pastor for a congregation of 50 to 100 people, while Catholics in some areas often have to wait six months or a year for a visit from a priest.

It’s not surprising. The governments in Mexico and Central America have always been very anti-Catholic.

Makes sense. The Catholics enabled the leftists and Protestant missionaries built schools, hospitals, housing, and churches.

Thank God they are leaving the Catholic Church and it is a God send.

The Evangelicals will help these Central American countries.

Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala is in getting too close for being a dead country. The exports of these countries is becoming less than imports.

Right now, we have Libya, Somalia, and Venezuela as real Dead Countries.

Huh? So 71% of the population ACTUALLY consists of baptized, enrolled members of the Catholic Church, but only 38% "describe themselves" as Catholic anyway?

Hmmm. Sounds like fuzzy math to me. Usually you get the opposite problem -- plenty of people DESCRIBE themselves as "Catholic" despite NOT actually being Catholic. (for example, numerous Episcopalians call themselves "Catholic" and also falsely claim to be an apostolic church)

What people DESCRIBE themselves as irrelevant. A bunch of marxist black voters in America DESCRIBE themselves as "Evangelical", while the mainstream media and conservative evangelicals simply ignore that and refuse to accept them as Evangelicals because don't fit the narrative about how "Evangelicals love Trump" and so on. Plus, there's bound to be some overlap -- plenty of people DESCRIBE themselves as both "Evangelical" AND "Catholic". Just ask Mike Pence.

It would be interesting to see some raw numbers about how many people in the country are ACTUALLY evangelical, and how many are ACTUALLY Catholic.

Besides, going by the mainstream media narrative that only white Evangelicals "count" as ACTUAL evangelicals, you'd be left the problem that the vast majority of the country doesn't consider themselves white, and therefore cannot be "evangelical" in the media's eyes, no matter how faithful they are to fundamentalist Protestantism.

The good news is that they REMAINED faithful Christians rather than leave the faith altogether. I’d venture to say that they are probably better examples of living their faith now than they were before as cradle Catholics.

So, why is the country still in such a mess?

" It’s not surprising. The governments in Mexico and Central America have always been very anti-Catholic. "

That is absurd (or did Martin Luther conquer the Indian tribes and Protestant countries institute governments?), not only because your statement is far from "always" being the case but rather than being the cause of Catholic declension, true Christian faith tends to expand under persecution. So much for the typical delusional Catholic victim mentality.

77.7% of all Mexicans are Catholic. 11.2% of all Mexicans are some other Christ-believing group.

Where do you pull such outlandish beliefs from? The Catholic Church?

“So, why is the country still in such a mess?”

Good question. My hunch: IQ levels. India, Honduras, Egypt = 81. In 1895 the brilliant Americans in Los Angeles discovered oil, wondered what to do with it, and began paving streets. They used two tools to dig 150 feet deep: a pick and as shovel. In 1890 there were 60 wells in Los Angeles.

... true Christian faith tends to expand under persecution.

Whereas false protestant "faith" mutates into countless cults, each with their own "beliefs", except for their common hatred of the One, True Faith.

Evangelicals like Oneness pentecostals are not Protestant, since they reject the Trinity, Evangelicals like Oneness pentecostals aren’t even Christian as they are non Trinitarian.

It’s funny how angry you get, but mostly sad.

You’re only drinking poison and hoping that daniel1212 dies from it with that kind of mindset.
