Heavenly Father –

December 2020 ends a very chaotic year.

Like the winter that is coming, the days look dark for our nation. At the beginning of the American Revolution, patriots and leaders, like George Washington, looked to Heaven for help.

The flag, featuring a pine tree with the motto "An Appeal to God" or, more usually, "An Appeal to Heaven", was used originally by a squadron of six cruisers commissioned under George Washington's authority as commander in chief of the Continental Army in October 1775. :

And during these dark times, we thank you, Father, for raising up General George Washington. Giving him courage, strength, and perseverance to never give up in the face of terrible odds. And we know this because of history. That daring raid during Christmas of 1776 when Washington crossed the Delaware and the watch word was: Victory or Death,.

Likewise, during the dark days of Christmas 1944, when the allies Bastogne was surrounded by Nazis, General McAuliffe never gave up and never surrendered. And General Patton appealed for help from the Almighty in Heaven.

May we look to You, Lord, for our deliverance. When evil seems so strong. Lies, deceit, corruption have spread like a cancer. Shaking our faith in our fundamental institutions. We appeal to Heaven. We ask for Wisdom, courage, and strength for President Trump and trusted advisors to fight corruption through the power of the Spirit.

May we have this confidence, that in the end, You will win, Lord. And only You will be glorified for Your goodness, mercy, justice, and righteousness.

This is slightly off topic, but you included the painting "Hang Tough, Bastogne 1944" by John Shaw in your post and it reminded me of this nice video.

The painting is centered around Major Dick Winters (Band of Brothers) and in 2006, Major Winters was presented with the original painting, signed by other surviving members of Easy Company.
