Pope Francis Calls for Civil Union Law for Same-Sex Couples, in Shift From Vatican Stance

ROME — In a documentary that premiered Wednesday in Rome, Pope Francis called for the passage of civil union laws for same-sex couples, departing from the position of the Vatican’s doctrinal office and the pope’s predecessors on the issue.

The remarks came amid a portion of the documentary that reflected on pastoral care for those who identify as LGBT.

“Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it,” Pope Francis said in the film, of his approach to pastoral care.

After those remarks, and in comments likely to spark controversy among Catholics, Pope Francis weighed in directly on the issue of civil unions for same-sex couples.

“What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered,” the pope said. “I stood up for that.”

He can sh*t in one hand and wish in the other and see which one gets filled first.

He supported this BS as archbishop in Argentina. He ignored clerical sexual abuse in Argentina. He’s a Jesuit. He could care less how many of his Jesuit brethren are sodomites. Unrependant sodomite James Martin is one of his “special advisors”. B16 wouldn’t even talk to that heretic. Finally he can have his personal opinion but he absolutely can not change the words of Christ or the 2,000 year old teachings of the Catholic Church. Finally, he’s not Catholic, much less the pope. His actions prove that.

As Archbishop of Argentina he supported the same heretical nonsense. If spite of his anti-Catholic views the Jesuits got their way when they made him pope. 9/10 Jesuits are queer,

As Archbishop of Argentina he supported the same heretical nonsense.

Not true.... and we have to be accurate if nothing else... As stated in the article below.... the bigger question is ...

WHAT CHANGED ??

In 2010, while he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Pope Francis opposed efforts to legalize same-sex marriage.

Also..

While Sergio Rubin, the future pope’s biographer, suggested that Francis supported the idea of civil unions as a way to prevent the wholesale adoption of same-sex marriage in Argentina, Miguel Woites, director of the Argentinian Catholic news outlet AICA, dismissed in 2013 that claim as false.

So chastity is off the table. The RCC is stating that Jesus was wrong, and second is not a sin

I looked it up some, at least as far back as 2014 he was saying the same thing about civil unions.

“Pope Francis has signaled that he could see the Catholic Church tolerating some forms of same sex civil unions—though not marriage—when it comes to medical care and property for gay couples”—Corriere Della Sera, 2014

As far back as... 2014 ?? That be 6 yrs ago... Now if we were talking dog years..lol

No doubt the Pope has - of late - developed a renewed ideal regarding Bill and Bob using their sexual organs in inappropriate ways, desiring some type of "union" (whatever that is) to be able to offer some level of order to it- as opposed to it's disordered nature I guess. On this, there is no doubt

The curious point I was trying to make, and was lost on you, is that the Pope did not hold these "values" as prelate of Argentina. In 2010 just as Argentina's gay marriage push was in full swing Abp. Bergoglio was against this secular triumph sweeping the globe.

Fast forward, for some, to the 2013 Papal enclave. A seemingly ardent anti-gay marriage Cardinal is elected. In 2014 as you point out.... the Pope's thinking began to "evolve" on this issue... mirroring many world leaders then who at one time were maybe also NOT in favor of Bill and Bob playing house.

So as I asked ... WHAT HAPPENED here? Cdl. Bergoglio beacme a different thinker waking up in the Vatican.....

Timing...IS everything.....

“No one should be miserable”

People bring misery onto themselves (even eternal misery) and, as such, they ought to be miserable.

Once again, you a badly misinformed, Murph.

Francis’ Grisly Record Of Supporting Gay Civil Unions

Bergoglio supported civil unions in 2010 when he was Buenos Aires Archbishop. In a heated meeting of bishops, he advocated supporting civil gay unions as a compromise for being allowed to criticise gay pseudo-marriage - although gay civil unions are always used as a first step for introducing gay pseudo-marriage.

Later, Bergoglio told the homosex militant Marcelo Márquez that “homosexuals need to have their rights recognised and that he supported civil unions, but not same-sex marriage” - although this is the same.

Well I have citations that say you are badly misinformed as well... he said... he said....
C'mon man !
-- What is more likely is that the current Pope was ambiguous on the homo stuff as Abp./Cdl. then- as he can be ambiguous in his Papal statements now. In any event it appears he has a evolved more deeply on those views today NOW-- where it was not as visible pre- 2013 conclave..... I'm not defending his comments- only pointing out the convenience of a timeline- before Conclave and since...
Some strong language (to wit:)

And it appears that Bergoglio seconded some of those concerns during the debate over the marriage equality legislation, which he at one point called on Catholics to oppose, according to On Top magazine.
The proposal to approve gay marriage was “a move by the Father of Lies which aims to confuse and deceive the children of God,” Bergoglio wrote in a 2010 letter urging Catholics to oppose the measure, On Top reported. “Let's not be naive, we're not talking about a simple political battle;it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. ... At stake are the lives of many children who'll be discriminated against in being deprived of the human growth that God wanted to be given through a father and a mother.”

Has it ever occurred to you that Bergoglio, being a Peronist, is a habitual liar who tells people what they want to hear to get what he wants, including the papacy?

Do you really think Beroglio’s claim that he was unaware of McCarrick’s debauchery was an honest one, despite Vigano’s testimony stating otherwise?

No, chastity is not off the table and “The RCC is” not stating anything.

This is an opinion given by Pope Francis in a documentary and a comment on civil unions.

it is NOT a Church statement, leave alone a dogmatic statement ex-cathedra.

Also clearly note - this is about “government controlled civil unions” - not about the Sacrament of marriage. The Sacrament of Marriage is declared by Jesus and not changeable.

So, cop it up to another bad opinion by a bad overseer (bishop) - as Dante wrote, the road to hell is lined with the skulls of bishops.

The Pope is a biblically illiterate imbecile.
I grew up Catholic. the Spirit of Lord came to me at a young age and I started to truly study Gods Word- needless to say I left the Catholic Church as they do not Follow the Word.
This Pope is 180% off———Judgement begins at the alter and so called Preachers will be held responsible for everything they put forth, leading the people astray and the sins will be on their hands.

ok, now this off-the-cuff, non-dogmatic statement about civil unions (not about marriage) is wrong, but let's put it in perspective.

This is

an opinion given by Pope Francis in a documentary and a comment on civil unions NOT on the sacrament of marriage

it is NOT a Church statement, leave alone a dogmatic statement ex-cathedra.

Pope Francis is heading on to being one of the many bishops in hell - thank God the Church has Jesus Christ as it's High Priest, so the damages of the overseers never hit the main body.

Governments should not be in the business of "Marriage" - they can keep their civil unions/partnerships whatever. Marriage is a sacrament.

Sir,

I have respect for you as a Christian, and as a person.

But you need to take the blinders off.

Let me give you a real world example of the Pope’s statement dissolving chastity. Forgive me for changing a few details so as to not embarrass the gentlemen I know.
My kids go to a Lutheran school, and there are a number of Catholic schools in the area. Since we are all Christian schools, and from a liturgical tradition, members of the respective boards sit on the same body that does certification of standards.

One of the things we have been worried about for a while is the moral clauses in the various school/parish contracts. There was a teacher in one of the Catholic schools that was living with their partner in a civil marriage (same sex) who the middle school was in the process of letting go. The woman has sued, and while both parties are keeping it quiet for now it will hit the papers sooner or later.

A board member at that school called me in tears last night. The local bishop, shortly after the press release from the Pope, has said “Rome has spoken, and we have to accept it.”

As a person with authority, Any statement you make is assumed to be “from the corporation”. In a body like the RCC, the Pope is the head. So his private opinion is law, pretty much by definition. Now Francis may be nuts, and it may be rolled back, but in that real world example I gave the moral clauses for employees is gone. All they have to say is “We have a civil union! THE POPE SAYS ITS OK!”

But go ahead and play barracks lawyer on this. Mean while the destruction will accelerate. I am not saying you need to convert. I am saying you must see who you are serving. This isn’t another “bad opinion”, this is going to destroy and split churches, schools, and probably convents if what I have heard is true. Such private opinions of the Pope tend to be become law in a few years. And what will you say when the Sacrament of Marriage is held to be hateful because of its limits? For that is the next step, and it is being taken as I type.

My dear brother in Christ, I am not mocking you. Talk to lightman and see what happens next. Reach out to the local Catholic school principle (if you trust him or her) to see what chaos is starting. Put down the canon law book, and see the real impact of what is going on before you wake up as a member of a church that no longer exist.
