Washington, D.C. Newsroom, Jul 16, 2020 / 12:32 pm MT (CNA).- The recent series of attacks on church buildings and property continued Tuesday night, as a statue of Christ was toppled and beheaded at a Miami parish and a statue of Mary was daubed with red paint in Colorado Springs.
Recent weeks have seen a rolling series of acts of vandalism and destruction at Catholic churches across the United States, including arsons, decapitations, and graffiti. But while some of the incidents have been caught on camera, in most cases the perpetrators, and their motivations have yet to be identified.
In response to the most recent attack, the Archbishop of Miami told police that the desecration of the statue of Christ should be treated as an act of hatred for the Church and faith.
Late Tuesday night, July 14th or early Wednesday morning, July 15th, the statue of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd was desecrated; the head of Jesus was separated from its body, Mary Ross Agosta, communications director for the Archdiocese of Miami, told CNA.
The statue was located outside its namesake church, the Archdiocese of Miamis Good Shepherd Catholic Church, in Southwest Miami-Dade County. The police were notified and Archbishop Thomas Wenski is asking this investigation be treated as a hate crime, she added.
On Wednesday morning, the statue was discovered knocked over and missing his head. Fr. Edvaldo DaSilva, the parochial vicar at Good Shepherd Church, told local media that he did not believe the damage could be accidental, as the pedestals screws had been tampered with.
They had some powerful hands to remove it, DaSilva told WSVN of Miami. Seeing what is happening in our country, I presume [it was deliberate], but we dont have 100% assurance.
DaSilva said that he is praying for whoever desecrated......

They’ll be after our Icons next!!!!
What is the definition of a hate crime again ?
Umm, Do not have any graven images?
We are way past seven times seventy.
The brutal annihilation of Christianity is a core craving for Democrats.
Shoot them in one cheek, then turn, and shoot them in the other cheek.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s actually attacks on Catholicism.
I think they are attacking the representation of Jesus and Mary for what they themselves represent.
I think it’s just that Catholic churches tend to have statues of Jesus and Mary and Protestant denominations don’t.
So it’s more an attack on Christianity than Catholicism, per se. They can’t physically attack Jesus because he is not physically here on earth, so they go after the next best thing, an image of Him.
None of this gets any significant play in the MSM. They approve of it.
So! Was it a Muslim or an ANTIFA who did it?

As someone of Eastern Orthodox tradition, I stand with the Catholics.
These attacks must stop and the criminals prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Im waiting with bated breath for an attack on a mosque. I wont hold my breath, though, because that would be suicidal.
“...The brutal annihilation of Christianity is a core craving for Democrats....”
Without a doubt. IF, God forbid, Biden becomes POTUS and the Senate flips, there will not be a church or a synagogue left open within 12 months. This virus BS was a test run to see if they could get away with it....they have. They’ll be banned and burned to the ground.
For any those “ever so righteous” evangelicals that think Trump is too mean, has been too harsh with women, too nasty with his words, etc. THINK about your church burning to the ground when election time comes around.
Enough of turning the other cheek. These f***ers should be shot!
That was two incidents and we only have 2 cheeks. Time to move, Let’s roll!
So you back these thugs?
