Pope Says Parents Cried Over Atom Bombings

TOKYO - Pope Francis has told Japanese Emperor Naruhito that he remembers seeing his parents cry over the news of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 74 years ago.

The pope traveled on Sunday to the two Japanese cities, where he urged world powers to renounce their nuclear arsenals and declared the use and possession of atomic bombs an “immoral” crime.

Palace officials say the pope told the emperor on Monday that he recalled the memory of his parent’s sorrow when he addressed survivors of the atomic bombings in the two cities.

Naruhito told Francis that he has high respect for the pope’s efforts on behalf of world peace and people’s happiness.

The emperor is a symbol of the nation and has no direct political power.

Japan says it seeks a nuclear-free world but still depends on U.S. nuclear deterrence because of the worsening security environment in the region.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga made the comments Monday, a day after Francis demanded in Nagasaki and Hiroshima that world powers renounce their nuclear arsenals and declared that the use and possession of atomic bombs was “immoral.”

Well, that was easy for the Bergoglios since they had no skin in the game. My parents cheered and thanked God for Oppenheimer and company... because the end of the war meant that tens of thousands of Americans’ lives were spared.

Francis’s folks weren’t on their way to invade the Japanese mainland either, when the big ones dropped. Maybe they hadn’t received the news of Nanking and Okinawa, either.

His folks had the luxury of watching from the sidelines and being protected by young American boys (men).

OK,I can accept that. However,it must be noted that far,far more tears would have been shed if an all out land invasion was necessary.

One million (plus) deaths...civilians and military...Japanese,American and others.

Doesn’t this jerk ever STFU? If he cared about human life, he’d tear down the wall surrounding the Vatican, house all the immigrants and refugees, sell all the gold, and feed the unwashed.

Dear Francis.

Parents cried after their children were killed at Pearl Harbor. Parents in Nanjing China cried when their families were slaughtered by the Japanese. Children and parents cried during the bombing of London.

May I ask you Francis, what you think the Nazis or Imperial Japanese would have done during WWII if they had developed nuclear weapons first?

You need to pray for enlightenment.

I was thinking along the same lines. My grandparents cried too, because it meant my father didn’t have to go back to the Pacific theater once his ship was repaired.

Do you think it only would have been 10s of thousands of lives to take Mainland Japan?

I know that’s a HORRIFIC number.

But I’ve read Hundreds of thousands of lives.

Thank God we never had to find out.
