Lifting up your Dad and your family in prayer to the Lord.
Consider your dad’s healing in my daily rosary. I agree with a couple of the others. Consider going as soon as possible, if possible.
Praying for your Dad, and your Mom, and your whole family.
Awww, Joe. You and your parents have our prayers. God bless you with strength and patience.
Prayers for Philip, and your mom
Will do, but I want to add I had a relative with the same thing. It happened quite a few times, and each time the massive shivering at the onset as the temperature got kicked up was unsettling, but he would take an antibiotic and in short order be fine.
Be sure if you get a culture and sensitivity back, you get an extra course of antibiotics when you leave so if it hits again he will have it on hand and can take it immediately. If they never identify an organism get a course of whatever they gave him this time that apparently got it under control.
The theory was there was something in the GI tract that was periodically rubbing raw and letting a little burst of bacteria back into the blood, but they never found it. After the third or fourth time he stopped going to the ER, and after a few years and ten or twelve times, it just stopped happening and he seemed no worse for the event for many years after it.
Take it seriously, and make sure anything else problematic like high blood pressure is dealt with so he is in optimum condition, but know another case was fine, it came back and was resolved easily each time with antibiotics, and apparently it was not that uncommon in the elderly.
Good luck.
I just want to add, he stopped going to the ER, but he called the doctor after each episode to keep a course of the antibiotics on hand at all times, and he always took the antibiotics the moment it began to kick in.
Of course. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
I spoke to my dad yesterday over my lunch hour and he sounded like his usual self, though not so fond of being bedridden. The culture came back last night, and it turns out that his blood infection is a strain of E. Coli. Docs did a CT of his abdomen trying to pinpoint the source of his infection, and weren't able to find anything apart from a small kidney stone that his personal physician was already aware of.
He remains on the IV antibiotics and the docs say if they can get the infection knocked down, there is a chance he could be released early next week to continue the IV from home, but they are going to continue with some additional tests this weekend and try to determine the source of the infection.
I spoke with my mom and sister last night while they were at the hospital. My mom was of course still worried, but I did sense some relief in her voice, and got the impression she was going to be able to get a good night's sleep.
Thank you all so very much for your prayers. I shared this thread with my sister, who I believe shared it with my mom. My sister was very appreciative (as am I) of all the prayers from people and places unknown to the family, but deeply connected by faith in Lord and Savior, and his ability to bring comfort and healing.
Thank you all so very much for your prayers!
Praise God!
Will continue to keep your family in our prayers.
Anytime! Thanks for the update! Prayers going up for a continued recovery.
Glad to hear things are improving. When our parents reach this age, these sorts of things can be roller coasters.
Keep us updated, please! Best of luck to you and yours.
Prayers continue...
Good news...Prayers continue..........
Hearing your Dad sounding like himself is encouraging. These infections!!! Praying his can be easily dealt with. And we appreciate the update. Prayers for your Mother, too.
Has he eaten out in the last month? That’s how our kiddo got e coli and had to be on prescriptions for about 3 years.
Lord God Jesus Christ. our Healer and Savior, give strength to Thy servant Philip.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
Praise God for His tender kindness.
Thank you for your update, it’s so very important to know that our prayers have been answered and wonderfully so. Sometimes it can be hard to understand God’s plan but other times it is easy to see how He cares for those that love Him.
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard what awaits His beloved.
