Jesus knew with certainty what was going to happen to him. As did his martyred disciples.
Were they arrogant morons also?
Thank-you God’s ways are not ours and even over his dead body something very good may come for these people. If it is arrogance to follow the leading of God then I too am arrogant and if we measure success in a worldly fashion then people would have never ventured to foreign lands to preach Christ. God’s wisdom looks like foolishness to those who are perishing!
I think Chau’s plan of contact was foolhardy and ended very predictably, but God will use his death for good, because that is how He rolls.
The vitriol heaped on Christians world-wide will be a wake-up call for those who have been snoozing in the pew.
Also this uncontacted tribe is now on the radar of many and perhaps a better contact plan can be enacted.
Honestly, I find the worlds weird desire to let these people live in a state of raw nature and poverty astounds me. They don’t even have fire or any agriculture.
I think their antipathy towards outsiders suggests a deep and abiding trauma passed on by oral history. Something so powerful still that it overcomes the natural curiosity of adolescent males. Like they are descendants of a wrecked slave ship that carried the remnants of some obliterated tribe from Africa. Otherwise, young men would go exploring.
It’s also occurred to me that they could be living in the hunter/gatherer version of North Korea, controlled by a ruling family, (although that doesn’t fully explain the absence of curious and adventurous teen males).
Or the lifespan there is cruelly short, constantly robbing the tribe of experienced elders, so no progress is ever made (doesn’t explain the absence of curious teens).
I would make contact by floating them coconuts (which was successful in the past) and installing a Jumbotron playing a video on coconut palm agriculture and after a few weeks or months, float them the hand tools and plants to start. Then I’d do the same thing with pineapples, mangos, papaya, what ever a tropical agronomist thinks would grow and doesn’t require fire to cook.
At the same time I would set up listening stations to record every bit of their language and interactions possible to see if the language can be deciphered and learned.
How about we condone people defending their borders in the manner they see fit?
Thank you. Your "arrogance" will not go unrewarded.
You encourage and strengthen me with your words.
The poor guy wasn’t martyred. Martyred means someone slew you because of your faith.
The Sentinalese had no idea what the guy wanted nor did they care- they would have shot him with the arrow even if he was an atheist, Muslim, Hindu or even a man from a neighboring tribe. They shot him because he was an intruder.
The celebration of his death is anti Christian hate.
Wow. May you find Christ before you die. Because it certainly seems like you have no relationship whatsoever with Him.
Lots of Christian haters about. Prayers for the missionary and his family.
I cant tell you how much I needed to hear that today!
The same thing happened many years ago with a group of missionaries to the Auca Indians of Ecuador. The group including Jim Elliot were also murdered by them. Years later Jim Elliot's wife and several others returned to the village and were successful in leading many to Christ. One of those new believers attended the same Bible college as I did. We never know how the Lord will use us in reaching the world. He wants our obedience and our trust that He will work all things for good. You can read about the Auca Indians and the story of Jim Elliot HERE.
God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to Him.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11:30.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:14-15
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 1 Thessalonians 2:19
The FreeRepublic did too.
Sure. But this guy had decided what God needed and was running so far ahead of Him that God did not have a chance to do a miracle.
jerusalem was famous for killing all that God sent to them. Jesus lamented that fact before he was crucified. That is where God sent him... early on in his ministry.
the early church was founded in an hostile environment, where the leaders, both political and religious wanted them all dead in almost every country that they went.
Paul was the best known christian murderer on the planet in his generation.
Virtually all of the apostles were murdered for their christian testimony... “martus”: witnesses to the point of death... with perhaps the exception of John the beloved... but that was not because the authorities did not try.
the very first christian martyr, a deacon of the house churches that met in Jerusalem was stephen. He was murdered at Jerusalem for his unwanted testimony.
That is HOW the early church in it’s entirety changed lives. That is the way of the “CROSS”.
Salvation, by God’s plan usually comes by planting the seed of death... of the witness sent.
as to what languages pre converts spoke, you could refer to Acts 2. where the early church supernaturally spoke whatever language they needed to use, by the power of the Holy Spirit and it was supernatural in its impact, and comprehension... it is recorded as the birth day of the church.
Jesus refused initially to speak to greeks in their native tongue... which he apparently knew. Yet in his preaching to jews, he was known to quote from the greek version of the old testament on occasion. one goes where God sends him to go, whether they are invited or not...
see the book of Jonah in the city of Ninevah.
seems to me that some folks around here rejoice when those they perceive as bible thumpers are crushed as they attempt to speak of their faith in a risen from the dead savior. whether that thumper is catholic, protestant, pentecostal... etc... they just HATE that christians of any stripe, will do things that make God’s testimony, commandments and willingness to invade lives apparent even where the Gospel is NOT WANTED... “go ye into ALL the world”
rofl... makes me smile. Because, Martyrdom is most often the precursor for massive divine intervention and inversion in the power of man, social groups, and governments... to the hands of God almighty.
blood waters the tree of revival and salvation. that quote about liberty and blood, is a biblical metaphor, a dog whistle of the founders to the majority of Christian sects who built this nation.
martyrdom, it’s not just biblical, it’s not just KNOWN tradition... it always triggers God’s invasion into places where he is violently NOT wanted. look for it here. USA.
if Jesus went to this island early on, he would have been crucified, buried and risen from the dead... perhaps just a little earlier. and it would be in the gospels... God’s plan ultimately is irresistible. Martyrdom is part of his plan.
“Honestly, I find the worlds weird desire to let these people live in a state of raw nature and poverty astounds me. They dont even have fire or any agriculture.”
And are obviously surviving without cell phones, liberals, weather hysteria, LGBTQYZ politics, Medicare, Obamacare, bureaucracies, government “help”, Antifa, junk food, CNN, the 30th Marvel Comics movie, the NFL, or the Kardashians. Leave them alone. They’re one of the last primitive cultures on the planet. They don’t need or want to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the “modern” world. Seems pretty obvious, given the dead guy on the beach.
The world certainly has a lot or weird desires. Maybe some things should just be left alone.
