A sad picture of the world we live in, especially online
The BBC has reported Wednesday on an American man killed on North Sentinel Island. Tribespeople shot him with arrows and left his body on the beach. He may have been a Christian missionary, according to the BBC: Local media have reported that Chau may have wanted to meet the tribe to preach Christianity to them.
The people of North Sentinel Island are one of the last isolated ethnic groups on earth. The Indian government forbids any visitors to the island, and natives routinely greet strangers with violence.
Cruel Hatred
Be that as it may, the way Facebook erupted over the incident is nothing short of stunning. The BBCs post on it had 5,600 comments under it just seven hours after publication. The anti-Christian tone runs cruel. Heres a sample:
*Haha good riddance. Leave them alone.
*God acts in mysterious ways
*They sent him to Jesus we must be happy about it.
*I can but hope he was an American Evangelical.
*They nipped that s**t right in the bud!

He should have tried somewhere safer, like Pakistan.
He wasn’t “martyred”. That’s an INSULT to Martyrs.
He was however, a self righteous, pompous, arrogant man and now he’s a dead man.
He pi##ed away 50 years of going to places where there would be danger but a CHANCE of surviving and reaching lots of people with the Good Word.
He was TOLD what would happen to him, I’m not QUITE SURE what language he was going to reach them with, and not sure why SO MANY here think they wanted to be bothered.
Maybe we can hire this tribe to work our borders.
Go ahead. Attack. I don’t give a sh.t and you’ll be 4,000 attacks too late.
Never read anything in the Bible that says being an arrogant moron being a good thing.
SO MUCH of the Middle East, Africa, even South America to go and spread the word, and maybe even have a translator accompany you.
But there would be NO FAME in areas where some have been converted already.
PRIDE cometh before a fall.
This time the fall was caused by arrows.
There was a slight outbreak of that attitude here on FR, recently.
I actually expect God to bring something good from this, but in an unexpected way.
Like Salvation for “News Reporters” instead of the natives.
Maybe there should be a new term: Religious Darwinism
I pray for their hearts of stone to turn to flesh... hate truly consumes the soul... They are so lost.
The people of North Sentinel Island are serious about border security, and that is their right.
He was however, a self righteous, pompous, arrogant man and now hes a dead man.

Well he is dead. You got that much right.
And Jesus, Peter, John, Paul, etc. are dead too.
(But are only dead in the flesh, and alive in the spirit?)
They reached a lot of people before they died and at least SPOKE THE LANGUAGE of those they tried to convert!!
If they had gone to this island first they wouldn’t be in the Bible!!
I’m SURE there were places where Jesus and Peter and John could have visited VERY early on with almost no chance of surviving, but they didn’t, did they?
But they weren’t out to make a name for themselves.
They were out to change lives.
Sorry for your loss. It sounds like you knew him pretty well.
FR wasn’t much better, sad to say.
Undoubtably, and ironically, he will be a Darwin Award Winner.
They reached a lot of people before they died and at least SPOKE THE LANGUAGE of those they tried to convert!!

As I pointed out earlier today,
Acts 2
7 Utterly amazed, they asked: Arent all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?
God does miracles. Could He have done one here?
I believe Commodore Matthew Perry opened Japan because the Japanese were executing shipwrecked sailors. Why not here.
I Question The Wisdom by Trevor Christian Johnson
Missionaries we respect in the future have often been viewed as foolish in the present.
Didn’t Carey have too many marriage struggles to go? I question the wisdom.
Hudson Taylor had weird views on support and funds. I question the wisdom.
David Brainerd was an emotional mess most of the time and drove himself to an early grave. I question the wisdom.
David Livingstone was reckless and drove his men to dangerous lengths. I question the wisdom.
George Stott had one leg and wanted to go to China. What org in their right mind would allow that. I question the wisdom.
“When James Calvert went out as a missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the ship captain tried to turn him back, saying, You will lose your life and the lives of those with you if you go among such savages. To that, Calvert replied, We died before we came here.” I question the wisdom.
Those foolish missionaries in Ecuador. A frail lady with polio in the mountains of Irian Jaya among the Kimyal who couldn’t even walk right. And now a young man who was an experienced wilderness EMT who was trying to reach tribal peoples in North Sentinel island.
All of these fools. I question the wisdom!
Over and over this week all over the internet, even American Christians degrading this young man who was killed in a good cause, “I question the wisdom,” “I question the wisdom,” “I question the wisdom.”
-—1 Corinthians 4:10: We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.”
-—II Corinthians 12:2, “ For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities....”
——”I am a fool for Christ...whose fool are you?” (Brother Andrew).
From me: Trevor is a missionary sent to the [formerly, I hope] cannibals of Papua, Indonesia. He is well-known for his stance in both spiritual matters and for political issues affecting the Korowai. Trevor has suffered greatly, especially physical illness, in his service. At this moment, he is away from his people recovering from chronic malaria. He longs to return to the work.
Full disclosure: I, also, work on the same island Trevor does. My husband in the early 90s quit his tenured position as a band director. We, along with our 3 children, the youngest was 5 and the oldest 11, went overseas. We have suffered a small amount for the work, including bouts of malaria and dengue fever. I had to med-evac this spring with severe anemia. I went from the plane to the doctor’s office to the hospital. It is worth it all. We can’t wait to return in August 2019.
No, it isn’t and my heart breaks.
At least John Chau went. From what I read, he intended to learn the language much as a child learns a language. That’s how it is done with unknown languages.
Who will take his place? Is Chau the only one obedient to the call and willing to step out in faith?
No, it’s more about India embracing the cuck lifestyle rather than savages “protecting” something they can’t even comprehend.
It was a miracle he lasted as long as he did.
“No, its more about India embracing the cuck lifestyle rather than savages protecting something they cant even comprehend.”
They comprehended an invader attempting to violate their territory and they took defensive action.
This place is highly unique as it is the one place where the “world community” wants to protect sovereignty and national isolationism.
