Catholic Answers ^ | August 23, 2018 | Chris Check

My wife Jacqueline and I have four sons. Thanks be to God, they never fell victim to the calculating predations of a bishop or priest seeking to gratify his disordered passions.

Many fathers’ sons and daughters did.

How do all these children have unsupervised contact with clergy? If I were a Catholic dad I’d let the priest know that if he’s ever alone with my kids he’ll find his nads in a shoebox.

What aggravates me is my parish priest NEVER saying a word about marriage, abortion, and certainly not the homosexual crisis in the church. He ignores it and always tries to make his 5 minute homilies tie into the gospel reading. Now he’s all man, becoming a priest at age 50. In his former life he had a construction business. There’s nothing he can’t build. I’ve talked him in confession about social issues and just shooting the breeze with him. He’s as conservative as they come, but when the Mass starts you know you’re not going to hear him tell the people in the pews about the evils of abortion or mention that marriage is a man and woman and nothing else. Not before elections or any other time. I mention this because some Catholics need to hear it because they vote democrat and I that for a fact.

You seem to know him well enough to simply ask him why he never addresses those issues.

“It’s NOT about MARY.”

Agreed. And she will be the first to tell you it’s not about her. It’s about her Son, His project the Church, His plan for apostolic succession and His Father’s ultimate rule. Yes, we can imitate Mary and do what she did: accept the Father’s rule.

Pope Francis is blowing chunks and he knows it. He is the Lance Armstrong of the Catholic Church. Doh!

The reality is that there is no perfect church, be it Catholic or any other church. The Body of Christ is made of saved sinners.

"He ignores it and always tries to make his 5 minute homilies tie into the gospel reading."

That is precisely what he is supposed to do in the homily. Commentary on social ills/issues is supposed to take place outside homily. The way our priest handles it is to be behind the lectern for the Gospel and Homily, and then step away from the lectern for extraneous commentary.

Talk to him about it, he seems a reasonable guy. Tell him you appreciate his priesthood and his guidance but could he address some social issues which you think need to be revisited from time to time.

Fr. Mike Schmitt just posted a video on the subject and it is worth the 16 minutes. He is angry and passionate and has a beautiful call to action.

On Day One, the Catholic Church was founded by Christ on the Apostles.

How can that be evil?

I’ll take the Bible’s word for it!

Please read all of the original article. It’s a good one, written by a father of four.

When I was a grad student at Purdue, I attended the student parish. Annually, the student chaplain world give a sermon on sexual morality. We referred to it as his reading of the riot act. It was clear the students knew to whom he was talking. You could have heard a pin drop. Maybe we need more annual readings of the riot act. In the Latin Mass parish I attend, I,vex never heard a sermon on that topic.
