For 8 years we lived in America while Obama was President. His cabinet and other members of the Administration utter ghastly comment after ghastly comment. The only comfort we Normals took, was that America is not the government or the Administration but the ideal established by the Founders.

Same thing here. The Church is not the Pope, the Cardinals, or even the clergy. It is Jesus' Church...there is a rot that must be swept away here on Earth, but the rot is not the Church.

Most Catholics don’t recall that confessions were originally done out in public within the congregation and then the royalty, landed gentry and so forth decided they didn’t want their sins aired in public and hence the private Confessions were done for them and ultimately the Confessional booths were introduced. I was raised Catholic and know of some of the less known history.
