Televangelist Joel Osteen cancelled services at his Houston megachurch Sunday and has yet to reopen its doors — despite the fact that thousands of flooded-out residents are desperately seeking shelter.
The perpetually smiling pastor told followers on Twitter on Monday to lean on their faith.
Jesus promises us peace that passes understanding, he wrote. Thats peace when it doesnt make sense.
But Osteens comforting words didnt sit well with critics, who want to know why the doors to his 16,800-seat arena at his Lakewood Church near downtown Houston are closed.

Osteen’s church is not like my church, for sure. The people at my church would have been out there rescuing people and certainly, opening up the church as a place of refuge. Isn’t Osteen’s ministry a legacy which occurred when his Dad died? I do not know much about him because his “prosperity” message never resounded with me. Jesus said, “Take up your cross and follow me.” That cross is not emblematic of living in a 10.5 million dollar mansion with all the celebrity trappings you can think of.

James 2:14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.Osteen is a wolf in sheep's clothing, a lying hypocrite, naming the name of Jesus and not acting very much like Him.

My church would have been planning relief work for a good week ahead of time.
They would have laid in supplies and had people at the church riding out the storm waiting for people who need help.
And I know it’s not the only church out there in the Syracuse area which would be doing that.
And NONE of them are anywhere near that big.

They opened the “church”. My guess is that there were insurance issues.

Also pressure from looking bad.
I heard others say that about insurance issues.
Are they trusting God or not?

This story is fake news. They've got most of the
water out now. Tough to coordinate activity when the power is out and the streets are flooded.

“Are they trusting God or not?”
Osteen? He thinks God works for him, not the other way around.

I don’t know or care about how this outrage started but it’s hard being a Christian if you never talk about Christ.
Someone should tell Joel that.

Joel's $11 MILLION RIVER OAKS MANSION Probably handle several hundred flood victims in the main house and 50 more in the outbuildings! Oper 'er up, Joel! It's what Jesus would do and... Oh, wait. Jesus wouldn't live here. Never mind! Religion the last refuge of the scoundrel and all that!

Someone should tell Joel that. Perhaps he is disinclined to talk about someone he doesn't know.
