My god daughter was one of the first girl altar servers in her parish up north. Her brother had no interest in it, yet both are still faithful Catholics.

I was not happy about her serving, but no one asked my opinion.

My bro was an altar boy. He was 4 years older. I could fish, pick worms, deliver newspapers, play baseball with him....but I couldn't be an alter boy.

And so.....One day I went to church...and no one was around. I climbed over the railing. Knelt down near the bells....just like my bro always did.

And with great reverence, I rang those bells three times....reciting mea culpa.

Then climbed back over the rail, genuflected and walked out of the church.

I'm sure that God had tears in his eyes from laughing so hard.

In the end, let the boys do it. They're entitled to space.

Priests cannot be forced to have females serve their Masses.

I know a very good priest in Chicago who exercises that right. He was told he would never be pastor.

Our daughters will not. Our priest has never had female alter servers, and the new bishop supports that.

Prayers for our Catholic friends to help keep the traditions that made them strong and chase the servants of the beast out of the house of God.

I don’t mean Catholic girls. I do mean false popes and others undermining the church.

Our parish priest will only have boys serve but the huge church down the road has mostly girls. I only go there a couple times a year when Holy Day Mass times are in conflict with work schedules, etc. I’ve never seen a boy on the altar at the big church. The homilies sound like they came from a psychiatrist’s self help blog or something. I keep wishing that my priest could be loaned out for a month so he could reach all of those Catholics. They’d be shocked to the core at his amazing ability to teach the faith. I imagine there would be a few complaints, too. :0) I love my priest! So blessed to have him so close to our new home!

The video segment below was produced by CatholicTV out of Boston. It features Bishop Christopher Coyne, auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis:

...and bishop-delegate of the Diocese of Burlington (VT).

Liberal priests that never speak of sin in homilies are the ones most likely to have altar girls. Priests who take their vocation seriously and really want to preach the word of God have altar boys, the way it was meant to be. Girls can never be priests so why make them altar servers. Makes no sense.

The little Catholic church I attend in Union City, OK, seems to pretty much split down the middle. About half the servers are boys and half girls. I really don’t have a problem with that.

Our parish is strictly altar boys only, a fact our local liberal rag published with relish a few years ago. Too bad for them, our parish is now one of the most thriving in the Diocese!

Funny, this Protestant, has probably always seen altar boys as the ‘recruiting ground’ for future priests. You serve our Lord at the altar and over the years, if you are called to the priesthood, it will come to them during their service.

I think the Bishops are changing their opinions.

I know a very good priest in Chicago who exercises that right [not to have females serve their Masses]. He was told he would never be pastor.

So he is being persecuted for the sake of righteousness? What a tremendous blessing, his reward will be great! I will pray for him and for his wicked superiors.

Yes, I have seen this in parishes that allowed girls to serve. Once the boys saw girls serving at the altar, it was no longer appealing. After a while, it became only girls that served. Vocations come from boys, not girls.
