Has science now proven that God exists? Douglas Ell, author of the new book Counting To God, will speak about this and other big questions related to science and faith in two lectures at Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach.
Times: Tuesday, October 21, 2014, 6:00 pm Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 6:00 pm
Location: Trinity Episcopal Church 2365 Pine Avenue Vero Beach, FL 32960
Both talks are open to the general public and there is no charge.
In Counting To God, Ell applies the lens of mathematical analysis to a series of scientific discoveries, drawing startling conclusions about the relation between scientific and religious truths.
The Treasure Coast resident and former atheist brings a unique vantage point to the subject matter: He is a prominent national attorney who earned a double major in physics and math from MIT, and a masters degree in theoretical mathematics from the University of Maryland.
Ell said Ive spent more than 30 years reconciling science and God, because I needed scientific evidence to believe in God. He has lectured to both scientists and church groups.
I highly recommend this thoughtful exploration of the relation between science and spirituality, said Professor Peter Fisher, Head of the MIT Physics Department about Ells book.
Counting to God is now available at the Vero Beach Book Center, 2145 Indian River Blvd., in Vero Beach, and also through various online retailers.
Preview copies are available for review; please contact CountingToGod(at)gmail(dot)com. For more information and to read Douglas Ells weekly blog, visit CountingToGod.com.
What if science itself pointed to a reality outside of space and time, and a Designer behind all that exists?
In Counting to God, Douglas Ell applies the lens of mathematical analysis to recent scientific discoveries, drawing startling conclusions. Ell uses scrupulous analysis and probability calculations to make a convincing case that the most advanced, sophisticated thinking in science not only allows for the idea of a designed universe, but encourages it.
As the adage says, numbers dont lie.
An MIT graduate with a masters degree in theoretical mathematics, Ell surveys the current state of knowledge in seven areas where modern science supports the existence of God, including the history and physical laws of the universe and our planet, the origin and technology of life, evolution of species, and quantum physics.
How careful is the science? Counting to God has been endorsed by a number of leading scientists, including the head of the physics department at MIT.
By giving the lie to the truism that scientific discoveries have been contradicting the tenets of traditional religion, Counting to God provides a firmer foundation for those who already believe. At the same time, it opens the door to a higher reality, for anyone who believes in traditional science and the power of reason, yet wonders if there could be something more.
But Ell wont preach at you consider the science make up your own mind: Watch the lecture delivered to MIT. (39 minutes & 18 seconds - at the website linked to in response #2)
I am sure this is great, but wasn’t this covered by C.S. Lewis.
BTW if we we wait long enough, the people who think understanding TToE and belief in God will be by soon.
Not quite sure why I think that — faith, maybe...
It better be good, $9.99 for Kindle format.
In my opinion, it depends on what you believe GOD is, as to whether that causes a problem between ‘religion’ and ‘science’.
Everyone speaks as if we all have the exact same ‘understanding’ of exactly WHO and WHAT GOD is.
Experience shows the opposite.
There’s only a problem between religion and pseudoscience.
You provide another example.
Everyone ‘thinks’ that everyone agrees on what ‘evolution’ means exactly.
Some are for it, some against, but believe everyone has the same definition.
Again, they do not. Most actually have no real idea what it involves or means.
Thank you. You summed it up very concisely.
If God is a quantum wave...yes...otherwise, doubt it.
All science points to God - the transcendent creator and designer of the universe.
IMO, the advances we have made only point to the existence of something beyond us. Think of the advances in science/medicine, etc and how much broader and complex we now understand we and the really universe are. Denying that is just willfully wallowing in ignorance.
“What if you could harmonize science and faith?”
What do you mean what if?
Christian faith has always been harmonized with science.
“Think of the advances in science/medicine, etc and how much broader and complex we now understand we and the really universe are. Denying that is just willfully wallowing in ignorance.”
I don’t understand what you think is being denied, or by whom?
God gave us scientific curiosity for that very purpose.
Everything points to God.
Maybe I worded it poorly, but I’m speaking to those who think our technological advances have in any way disproven God.
>>You provide another example.

There is only one scientific definition. It is vast, but it is well-defined. In fact, TToE is probably the best-defined Scientific Theory in all of Science. Much better defined that most theories of physics such as the Theory of Gravity (not to be confused with the observed effect of Gravity but that confusion will come along soon enough on this thread).
People may have OPINIONS on TToE, but knowledge is the only way to overcome ignorance.
Yes. You probably did word it wrong. I agree with what you just said.
I thought you meant the exact opposite.
