Lots of Atheists, more Muslims, Fewer Christians and Jews: This is the New America
The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 12/16/13 | Damian Thompson

The Washington Post has produced six massively detailed maps showing the religious make-up of America. The main map is above – if you want to enlarge it you'll have to click through to the Post's report here. The author/analyst, Niraj Chokshi, has uncovered some fascinating material – most of it lurking in the 2010 US Religion Census (data submitted by congregations, not the official US Census) but so much more surprising set out in map form. And here's an example.

Did you know there are – possibly – now more religious Muslims than religious Jews in Florida? I know, it seems incredible. Miami Beach has had 15 Jewish mayors, there are getting on for 200 synagogues in South Florida – and, of course, it was the hunting ground of the despicable Bernie Madoff. But here's a section from the map of Eastern states, grouped by region.............

The seat of the faith is shifting to the east. Expect something a little like the Armenian genocide in America’s future. Case-in-point - modern day Egypt.

Very interesting, thanks.

Had no idea that Hinduism was the largest non-Christian group in Arizona, among other oddities across the country.

Atheism is an intermediate step to becoming a Muslim. In 15-20 years, you will suddenly see a lot of avowed atheists converting to Islam. You can only go so long believeing in nothing. Its all part of the plan.

You heard it here first.

2013 stats are likely to be even more ominous.

You think the atheists will give up their beliefs? I want to see that battle.

And we wonder why the Popes have been pushing evangelization?

Lots of Atheists, more Muslims, Fewer Christians and Jews

...and that's just in the Obama administration.

Boy, I did. I grew up in western Nebraska in a Methodist region and was ridiculed for being a Catholic.

What utter nonsense. They do not even list either the Presbyterian Church nor the Episcopal Church nor the Lutheran Church……This is as usual the typical WaPo effort to confuse the reader

Expect also more Christian missionaries from what is the “global south nations” to come and witness for the Gospel of Jesus.

I believe the Post is using data from others....and remember, this shows the largest single REPORTING group--by county. I saw a very similar map (probably compiled by the same organization)way back in the mid '90s....with pretty much the same composition, so I'm certain this is fairly accurate.

No Presbyterians or Episcopalians--AS A PLURALITY OR MAJORITY in any county. (Plenty of Lutherans by the way, they are the Orange and Browns). The 'piskies claim something over a million adherents nation-wide (with less than 700K in attendance every week--and having LOST 30%+ of their membership in the last 20 years), and Presbies would be more than that--still, since both tend toward upper-middle, to upper-class folks, I'm not surprised that NO counties in the USA have either a plurality or majority in them.

I live in a southern city FULL of Presbyterian churches (Charlotte, NC), however I still bet for every one Presbyterian here, there are probably 3 or 4 Baptists.

I happen to Anglican myself (the conservative refugees of the 'piskies), and we claim about 100,000 nationwide. I know FOR SURE no one county has very many of us....(YET!)
