What utter nonsense. They do not even list either the Presbyterian Church nor the Episcopal Church nor the Lutheran Church This is as usual the typical WaPo effort to confuse the reader
I believe the Post is using data from others....and remember, this shows the largest single REPORTING group--by county. I saw a very similar map (probably compiled by the same organization)way back in the mid '90s....with pretty much the same composition, so I'm certain this is fairly accurate.
No Presbyterians or Episcopalians--AS A PLURALITY OR MAJORITY in any county. (Plenty of Lutherans by the way, they are the Orange and Browns). The 'piskies claim something over a million adherents nation-wide (with less than 700K in attendance every week--and having LOST 30%+ of their membership in the last 20 years), and Presbies would be more than that--still, since both tend toward upper-middle, to upper-class folks, I'm not surprised that NO counties in the USA have either a plurality or majority in them.
I live in a southern city FULL of Presbyterian churches (Charlotte, NC), however I still bet for every one Presbyterian here, there are probably 3 or 4 Baptists.
I happen to Anglican myself (the conservative refugees of the 'piskies), and we claim about 100,000 nationwide. I know FOR SURE no one county has very many of us....(YET!)
