Italian investigators have opened an inquiry into claims by a convicted paedophile priest that an underage prostitution ring has been operating inside the Holy Roman Church with clergymen hiring rentboys for sex inside churches.
Don Patrizio Poggi, 46, told Italian authorities that a former Carabinieri pimped boys for nine clergymen.
Poggi, who served a five-year sentence for abusing teenage boys while he was a parish priest at the San Filippo Neri church in Rome, said he made the allegations to "protect the Holy Church and the Christian community."
The boys were chosen because they were starving and desperate, he claimed, according to Il Messaggero newspaper.
The former policeman used to recruit the boys, mostly eastern European immigrants, outside a gay bar named Twink near Rome's Termini train station. He reportedly sat in his Fiat Panda - marked "Emergency Blood" to avoid parking fines - to make his selection.
He was helped in the recruitment process by a friend who ran a modelling agency. He lured underage boys into prostitution through "false work offers for modelling and acting roles", Poggi said.
The agent also looked for rentboys at gay discos, saunas and gyms across Rome. An accountant was also said to be involved.
The boys were paid 150-500 (£130-£425) to perform sex acts in church premises across the capital.
Poggi also accused the former Carabinieri of selling consecrated hosts for satanic rites.
Poggi reportedly presented documentary and photographic evidence to police in the company of two senior Vatican clergymen who vouched for his credibility.
Poggi identified the nine clergymen, including two senior church officials and a religion lecturer. Three people have been placed under formal investigation.
The allegations were rejected by the Vatican. Cardinal Agostino Vallini, head of the Catholic Vicariate of Rome, said the priest made false claims out of a desire for vengeance and personal resentment.
The Vatican refused to reinstate Poggi after he served his term.
"The cardinal expresses his full confidence in the magistracy and declares himself full convinced that this slander will be demolished, demonstrating Poggi's claims to be untrue," Vallini said.
"God will hold everyone accountable for their deeds."

There is a Catholic Caucus thread titled Breaking News: Rome's Gay Clergy which mentions that as many as four standing bishops may also be implicated in the matter.
Can’t the just get married?

Then Father Malachi Martin was right, and the letter from Our Lady of Fatima should’ve been revealed.
There
fixed it.
Oh, there goes Alex yet again, chewing on his old slipper. This defrocked homosexual child abuser Patrizio Poggi seems like SUCH a credible witness and source.
In other news, have you heard the juicy gossip from The Tales of Maria Monk??? Or maybe a more contemporary Jack Chick comic book?
Uncle Miltie:
If you happen to be married and your wife goes away for a couple of weeks on business or to care for a relative, does she need to worry about you and the newspaper boy??? Probably not, but that scenario makes as much sense as the one you are advancing.
. . . beyond this great vision of the suffering of the Pope, which we can in the first instance relate to John Paul II, are indicated future realities of the Church which are little by little developing and showing themselves. Thus it is true that beyond the moment indicated in the vision, it is spoken, it is seen, the necessity of a passion of the Church . . .
As for the new things that we can discover in this message today, there is also the fact that attacks on the Pope and the Church do not come only from the outside, but the sufferings of the Church come precisely from inside the Church, from the sin that exists in the Church. This too we have always seen, but today we see in a really terrifying way that the greatest persecution of the Church does not come from external enemies, but is born of sin in the Church, from the sin that exists in the Church...
—Pope Benedict XVI during his pilgrimage to Fatima in May of 2010
This homosexual lobby in the Vatican is well known. Even Pope Francis admitted it recently. Whether this current story Alex posted is credible or not is a moot point. Our own Pope says there is a gay lobby in the Vatican. Does Pope Francis have an agenda?
My interest in following this story is to see what connection - if any - is found between a "Vatican gay lobby", and statements by John Zmirak and Philip Lawler that allege two-thirds of American bishops were complicit in covering up the abuse scandal here in the US.
I happen to think that there's a connection. What about you two?
He should. His agenda should be to add thousands of staffers to the CDF. and revert it back to the Inquisition.
Then, appoint an Inquisitor to investigate and purge these creeps from the Church.
John Zmirak is a friend who attended my wedding when he was a Yale undergraduate and Phil Lawler was a client before I retired.
Pope Francis does not appear to post here as a Freeper much less as one regularly devoted to Catholic bashing. I refrain almost entirely from re-fighting the Thirty Years' War here on FR which is probably intended to be a website to unify and focus conservative efforts regardless of the religious persuasion (if any) of individuals who post here.
I often post on such diverse matters as the evil of abortion, and the evil of homosexuality (including its practitioners who dishonor their priesthood and molest boys and young men), 2nd Amendment rights, race relations, crime, excess taxation, excessive spending, the despicability of the likes of Mitt Romney and his unprincipled ilk (nothing against his Mormonism which is entirely his business) and numerous other issues upon which you and I and most folks here may usually but not universally agree.
Yet all I see here from you is a steady drumbeat of anti-Catholic propaganda. It is entirely acceptable for you to be anti-Catholic or for me to have been less than pleased with the antics and likes of the Rev. Mr. Jimmy Swaggert. What I have a problem with is that whenever I see a post from you it is ALWAYS a post against Catholicism. Do you EVER post on any other subject? It is not that I dislike you but rather that I am disappointed in your obsession. I suspect that, if you were my next-door neighbor, you and I would enjoy a good-natured and spirited if somewhat combative relationship as friends.
God bless you and yours.
I don't doubt that there is a "gay lobby" in the Vatican and elsewhere in the Church. I utterly deny (as I suspect you do as well) that Catholicism itself has anything that encourages or requires such an abomination. I would be encouraged by the re-institution of the Inquisition to deal with the miscreants.
I strongly suggest you read through another thread of mine before you go any further down that road. Get back to me when you have fully digested it, and we can have a conversation about what you've seen:
What You Get Is What You See
I suspect that, if you were my next-door neighbor, you and I would enjoy a good-natured and spirited if somewhat combative relationship as friends.
So what's been stopping you from being friends with me up until now? After all, you never know when you and I have met before, or may meet again. My door's always been open.
Interesting. Interesting as well was post #4 which pointed to something that bothered me about the author of the thread.
IMO most FReepers ignore threads until they see a) the name of someone they know, b) their beliefs being mentioned in the thread title, and especially c) the name they know is considered "outside" of the religious organization mentioned in the thread title.
In a society that values freedom of speech and expression, there will be anti-Catholic slanders (so say the Catholics), just as there will be anti-Protestant slanders (so say the Protestants), as there will be anti-Mormon slanders (so say the Mormons) etc etc etc. And yes, there will also be pro-Catholic accolades, just as there will be pro-Protestant accolades, just as there will be pro-Mormon accolades, etc etc etc. All of them will happen. And as a result, someone's sacred cow gets gored daily in the Religion Forum, and everyone complains about the mess. What shall we do?
The Bible tells us that "without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin". I propose that FReepers adopt that verse as a mnemonic tool, to remind them that when the floors are slick with the blood of your sacred cow, you can invoke Christ's shed blood to forgive the offender. If nothing else, by forgiving one another you have placed hot coals atop his/her head (Romans 12:20, cf Proverbs 25:22), making them visibly uncomfortable and therefore providing hours of amusement for the rest of us.
And finally, by turning the other cheek (Lamentations 3:30, cf Matthew 5:39, Luke 6:29), at a minimum we reduce the number of cheek-slapping abuse reports that come in to the moderators. IMO a happy moderator with a reduced workload means higher quality ZOTs, and who doesn't enjoy watching a well-deserved ZOT?
Sorry, no. I won’t pretend there’s no need for abuse reports. Neither will I pretend the forum is properly moderated or moderated in an unbiased manner. (Seen Narses lately? The RM essentially banned him in one of the most egregious examples of moderator bias I’ve seen.)
No, thanks. If prefer the ZOT to the crap going on here.
Celibacy is not the problem. Homosexuality is the problem. Now back to the subject of the thread.
This has benn hashed out many times. That’s not what the thread is about.
narses has neither been banned nor suspended, and remains free to post any time that she wants. If FR isn't doing what you want, then you might want to consider finding a more Catholic-oriented blog or forum that fulfills your needs.
To: narsesThis is an "open" Religion Forum thread. Contentiousness should be expected on "open" RF threads.Since you consider the level of discourse on this thread to be flame bait, then leave this thread and instead post to threads labeled "prayer" "devotional" "ecumenical" or "caucus."
There's no more effective way to silence a prolific Catholic poster than this kind of vindictive, biased and punitive censorship, short of banning or suspending them.
And this cute little stunt by the RM did not pass unnoticed. I'm sure its burning their conscience even now.
And I notice quite a few of the usual anti-Catholic suspects here telling us Catholics that if we don't like this kind of biased treatment, go elsewhere. A lot like our government, with the DOMA decision and HHS mandate. I'm not going anywhere. Feel free to ban me, but I'll continue to call a spade a spade, thanks.
