"Scientists probe puzzle at site made famous by Jesus, Peter"
Some 2,000 years ago, the Sea of Galilee in Israel became famous as the Bible says Jesus and His apostle Peter walked on top of the water in a spectacular miracle.
Now, a mysterious find from beneath the surface is bringing new attention to the ancient body of water.
Scientists have discovered a massive, monumental structure on the seas floor, leaving experts puzzled as to what it actually is and how and when it became located there.
The structure is basically a cone-shaped pile of boulders with an estimated weight of 60,000 tons, which is heavier than most of todays warships.
Its height is nearly 32 feet, with a diameter of approximately 230 feet. In comparison, the outer stone circle at the well-known Stonehenge monument in Britain has a diameter just half of that. Additionally, the tallest stones of Stonehenge dont reach as high as the Sea of Galilee structure.
Close inspection by scuba diving revealed that the structure is made of basalt boulders up to 1 meter long with no apparent construction pattern, the researchers explain in the latest edition of the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology.
The boulders have natural faces with no signs of cutting or chiseling. Similarly, we did not find any sign of arrangement or walls that delineate this structure. The boulders are bare without any overgrowth. In contrast with the sandy terrain surrounding it, Tilapia fish teem around the structure and between its blocks, probably taking advantage of the hiding ........

Same place as this?
Looks like not much to me. They lose me right away when they say the rock pile is “heavier than a battleship”. So? Nor is it amazing that something is higher or wider than Stonehenge. Especially a big pile of untooled boulders.
Another sign of the apocalypse? Global warming? This could be hugh and series.
Interesting read, (read it yesterday)
I bet this thread gets a picture of Giorgio Tsoukalos pretty quickly.
Can you stand on it, and does it therefore appear you’re walking on water?
;-)
(With apologies in advance to my Christian FRiends...)
GGG ping.
or even better, a picture of:
The structure looks .... huge and series.
+++++++++
Watch your spelling. FP standards call for “hugh and series”. ;)
Yes. "Kinneret" is the Hebrew name for the Sea of Galilee.
I’m asking if this seems the same area of it.
It seems to be.
Sorry.
Won’t make the mistake again.
Probably George Bush’s fault.
That L. Ron woulda been great in a remake of “Goldfinger.”
The article says it is basalt but fails to inform the reader that basalt is volcanic rock. The city of Tiberius, a large resort city on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, also known as Lake Tiberius, is full of homes and business structures constructed of basalt as the area was volcanically active many centuries ago. Just maybe that part of the sea was used a a dumping ground for basalt that needed to be cleared from fields for construction and/or farming. Or, maybe the basalt was dumped into this area of the sea in order to create a breeding ground for fish.
