I was at the grocery store the other day when I was unexpectedly confronted with an adult-oriented magazine located right next to the vitamin section. I immediately had to look away from the front cover, which featured a scantily clad, seductively posed, sex symbol. Yet it was only a few weeks ago that I read an article about how this same sex symbol loves to speak in tongues and has to restrain herself from outbursts in tongues while attending church services. What?
This is actually a perfect illustration of American charismatic Christianity, where you can say you love Jesus (like the rapper The Game claims to do) and still frequent strip clubs (as The Game still does), or where you can flow in the gifts of the Spirit and become a made-for-TV preaching sensation, only to announce that God told you that you married the wrong woman, leading to a quick divorce and remarriage.
Yes, this is the gospel of the 21st century, Spirit-filled church of America, where the cross is bypassed, denial of the flesh is scorned, purity is called legalism, and anything goes if it feels good.
It is the gospel of self, in which Jesus dies to make you into a bigger and better you, a gospel in which God is here to serve you and help you fulfill your dreams, and where the measure of all things is not how God feels about it but how you feel about it (or how it makes you feel).

I was flipping through channels and came across some Nun on HBO, so I rolled my eyes and went back to see what was up... she was an ex-actress.... she was talking about how orgasmic it is to worship God, she said it was like having sex with him.
jeesh
I think that if he doesn’t like to look at chicks, he might be gay.
I can’t wait to see where this thread goes.
I've been married to the same wonderful woman for 30 years. Very early on she noticed my eyes did stray to some of the beautiful women walking around in NYC, and was upset. I told her, "Honey, just beacuse I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't look at the menu!" She chuckled, still doesn't like it but knows I am just admiring God's creations.
I don’t know why the author singles out the ‘spirit-filled’ churches. Of all the churches I’ve been to (from catholic to charismatic), I’d say that the seeker-friendly’s are more accepting of unchristian behavior, but that’s just my limited observation.
The mainstream churches fell a long time ago, Charasmitic Churches with Christian rock fell right after, and now the fundamentalist churches are falling with people drinking and going to bars and concerts all while claiming to Love Jesus
Really? I have had tattoos since 1981 when I got my first one as a United States Navy sailor, have been married for 20+ years (completely monogamously), and have 3 sane kids raised and out in the world. Have had our own business for the last 6 years. I build the best damned 1911 you ever laid hands on, do gunstock work that would make you sick with envy. Neither my wife nor I have ever been arrested, committed or threatened with either. We earn our own way in the world, ask nothing from anyone and both have tattoos. Multiple tattoos.
My very sane Father (USN Ret., now deceased) had tatts. Oldest brother (USN Ret.) has tatts. I could go on, but won’t. Don’t need to. I am living proof that you are wrong.

That's his audience. He's writing for Charisma News. I don't doubt examples of this could be found elsewhere.
I anticipate that FR rabid Catholics will be here any moment, talking about how pure their denomination is, and YOPIOS and all that.
Of course, they have their gay sexual predator priests and non-biblical doctrines.
Let’s just say here that the world is full of sinners, and we all need a Savior. We need to know Jesus, the real Jesus who lives and who is correctly presented in Scripture.
Darling, you can touch her with any part of your body you are willing to loose...
Perhaps she can consider her blessings that it’s WOMEN which turn your head.
And that you’re being faithful to her.
There are people who are so attractive that people DO look at them. It doesn’t mean that it’s always lust.
I’m sure to know all the crazy people that keep you safe from the rest of the planet’s human garbage will appreciate your thoughts.
Perhaps you could just spit on them while you’re at it. Like a good lib would. The fact that many freepers are also inked may also be lost on you so what does it say about you hanging out with all these crazies?
Its time to say goodbye to this watered-down, sin-excusing, so-called gospel that offers everything and calls for nothing. Its time to get back to the cross and back to the truth. Otherwise, as America collapses in a heap of amoral ruin, the soft preachers of America will be largely to blame.
Excellent article.
One of the issues I have with the charismatic movement is that they are big on signs and there's little outward evidence of what they claim the signs mean, having an *encounter* with God.
For all the experience, tongues, slain in the Spirit stuff, there's not any more evidence of holy living than those who haven't experienced those things.
Thanks Dr. Brown.... the “church” is really losing it with the things they’ve taught over the recent decades.

And no sign they understand the gravity of what they are claiming.
No, your aversion to tattoos is a dead give away that you do not know what you are talking about.
So are you saying that upbeat and lively music is not Christian?
So would you rather people stripped to loin clothes and dance in the streets?
this is why I love the FR. So many smart and witty people. That is a line I will steal! Thanks
