Vanity - why do we in Christian countries have a higher suicide rate?
Wikipedia.org ^ | 11 June 2012 | wikipedia

Posted on 06/08/2012 2:02:20 AM PDT by Cronos

was reading a thread and saw something about suicide rates, so looked up suicide rates by country

Now, of course the colder countries like Sweden, Estonia etc. have high rates (long winters I suspect), but I was surprised to see Hungary and South Korea there

And I was even more surprised that the Moslem countries are at the bottom of the list. Is there something wrong with what we are teaching in our homes and churches?

Wikipedia is hardly an unbiased source of such info.

If you want to find the weight of the largest bluefin tuna ever caught its fine but its useless for political and ideological questions.

That would be one of the many failings of the ME, sure.

Non-Christain countries don’t bother reporting suicides.

How deaths are reported makes a big difference. I have a friend who was a doctor in Russia. She said that her hospital had stacks of death certificates with the cause of death already filled in. She said it really skewed the rates of death for various things.

Why should someone in a Muslim country commit suicide? Their life is already a living death. Esp. if they are female or in any way a free thinker.

Unless they are going to claim the 72 virgins/get into heaven free card, I don’t see the point.

Are you including the jihadist nutjobs and Al Qaeda freaks that either blow themselves up or get Drone-Whacked virtually every day?

I had a friend who is a psychiatrist in Sweden who worked for a year in the Artctic region of Norway and he said he was paid more than double the salary because the suicide rate was so high they couldn’t talk people into moving there. His reasoning was because the lack of vitamin D from almost no sunshine for six months of the year. Their biggest treatment was high powered lamps that artificially replicated sunlight. He had also worked in Siberia and used the same treatment.

Funny enough, he moved to Malta to live in the sun.

(forgive the run on sentences, I am just now drinking first cup of coffee).

Check out the suicide rate in China and Japan, and then rewrite your vanity.

Reporting in third world/Muslin countries is hardly reliable. As someone reported above, look at the practices in Russia, where they report what they want on a death certificate. Another example is the reporting of infant deaths in the US vs other countries. They try to make it look like were substandard when in actuality, we’re the best. Many other countries don’t count stillborn or babies who live only temporarily while we typically do all we can to save a life. Like they say, there’s lies, damn lies and statistics.

What do we forget the christian's supernatural co-existing realm?

Remember we are admonished to look out for things in our own lives.

Just by name only Christian is not the end all of everything being in a perfect state with God it is an action word. Remember these verses are addressed to Christians for their own good so when we forget these suicide horrors happen.

Eph 6:16 “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the FIERY DARTS of the wicked.”

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8

The Bible says: 1Th 5:17 “Pray without ceasing

Put on the WHOLE ARMOR of GOD

Eph 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Eph 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel…”@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@Please Remember this is an action word verses for believers!

Philippians 4:6-7

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

WILL GUARD Your HEARTS and your MINDs in CHRIST JESUS!!!!

What Does this by what?

PRAYERS and PETITIONS!!!

Reread until it finally mediates into true form for real living.

Remember he already is Decieving the non- christians.

Do Daily Devotionals. Read Scripture. Watch services on tv or hear on radio.

I have Sky Angel Tv. I watch EWTN or other Christian tv. We need our daily spiritual nourishment.

People commit suicide because of lack of direction and purpose in life. Sometimes they may have a mental problem. Very few will hang themselves because they love God.

Maybe the Moslem countries kill folks off before they get to the point of suicide. Can't believe it can be attributed to Christian Churches putting out "the wrong message" and causing suicides - more likely the despair of a Christian sociaty as the realities of the evils of the world weigh on them. Moslem countries embrace the evil.

Homes and churches?
We have 62% of the kids in this area who don’t live with both parents, and only 29% attend church. Women who have had an abortion are 7 times more likely to attempt suicide.
We have turned our backs on God, His ways, and His precepts & statutes. Is it any wonder that the suicide rate goes up?
To put it a different way: “Is the high rate of suicide a direct result of the disintigration of the family, the ‘approved’ abortion industry, and the fading impact of the local church?”

Japan and China are high yes, but my focus is more on why we Christian countries have higher rates than Moslem countries. Japan, China are largely athiest (yes, you can argue that Sweden is largely athiest too). I think one clear point was the cult of individualism that has arised in Christian countries.

If you look in the gospels and see the demonic activity during the time the Savior walked the earth, you get a sense of the spiritual warfare that has always taken place—only with Christ’s presence on the earth, Satan, the “God of this age” was (and is) wont to defend his turf. Now, Christ’s Spirit in-dwells His followers and that same spiritual warfare is playing itself out for all to see. Those in Christ are sealed with His Spirit and can now claim “...greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.”

Those outside of Christ are (literally) playing with fire.

They probably don’t count women in hard Islamic countries. Women are considered property and take in the majority of the misery that is inherent in Islam.

Many women in these countries are not even known to officially exist. They are bought as children from slave traders and kept in wealthy harems without any ID. Even being outside alone is an arrestable offense for women.

Let me be clear, I do NOT believe that our Christian Churches put out the wrong message. I DO believe that we do not reach out enough with the RIGHT message, namely the love of Christ, giving hope even in utter despair. That “we” is for all of us, not matter where we go to — it’s our collective duty.

I’d attribute it to affluence and secularism.

Japan must have a high suicide rate.
