When preserving life is a daily struggle, one focuses on preserving life.
When luxuries abound and survival is far from a challenge, ending it becomes an attractive novelty.

Just a thought.

I will point out to you that Islam also leads adherents into feeling justified in focusing perceived failures into aggression against others, rather than inward.

The lower level of suicide and contrastingly higher rate of assaults, rapes, and murders are not two separate issues. They are the same issue.

***but I was surprised to see Hungary and South Korea there****

Hungary had the highest suicide rate in the world back in the 1960s and 70s when they were still a communist “paradise”.

Correct. Murder is murder whether it is directed against oneself or another. Christian cultures internalize efforts to overcome sin. Muslim cultures teach that sin is any force or individual outside Islam and must be destroyed.A Christian comes closer to God by love. A Muslim approaches Allah by murder.

Seasonal affective disorder.

Scan through the list. It's not a perfect correlation, but who's high latitudes, who's low?

And, South Korea is cold, during the winter ("Winters can be extremely cold with the minimum temperature dropping below −20 °C in the inland region of the country").

Your assumption is that “we are a Christian nation.” About 30 percent of us are not Christians and even less of us are connected into the Christian community. Our culture is top down enforced amoral humanist and is antagonistic towards all that is Christian. In the West anti-Christian elitists even go into the churches and harass Chrisitans.

So, in the West, it is safer to say we are self identifed as Christian but are not allowed to live and interact as Christians at work or school nor with strangers for fear of hostility. More and more in the West, with the homo movement, Christians are not permitted by humanist authorities to act, think and speak freely as Christians in their own churches. We do not hear nor see a Christian culture in entertainment, education nor the workplace anywhere in the West.

When Christian Americcans had the constitution’s religious freedom, violence and crime of every kind was very low. We were able to talk about social problems and personal problems in common terms and understanding of Christianity in our church and public lives. We were allowed to network and help one another, but that is now banned as discrimination against minorities.

In Muslim Nations, radical male hating feminazis, homosexuals, sluts, atheists and communists don’t dare oppress and debase the expression of faith in public among Muslims. It’s the other way around. They have a strong support system and culture because they are free (abet they deny everyone else freedom).

So the assumption that we have “Christian” nations in the West is not true. We are not permitted Chritians nations in the West. Chritians who sound and interact as Christians are locked out of jobs, schools, entertainment, leadership, etc. In some Western societies, public displays and networking of Chrisitans beyond the little church against the law.

Yeah. If I were a Mohammedan, I would be more likely to want to postpone meeting Allah as long as I possibly could; not that suicide is a good way to go, but, I think more than likely, suicides tend to in a misguided way bet on the mercy of God more than do Moslems.

My take on all of this is that people do not want to pick up their Cross and SUFFER, thus following Christ.
