I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.
Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.
I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!
Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!
Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!
What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?
Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?
Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!
(Um. Okay, let me try:)
That is the most outrageously and thoroughly wrong and clearly malevolently intended remark I have read in my entire life - including previous incarnations.
And (Now I’m getting personal) YOU are a big fat doody-head and booger-brain!
(With apologies to Dave Barry, my personal hero.)
(How’d I do?)
Those were fair.
A valiant effort.
I’m sure some special tutoring could be arranged to tweak up your skills.
Though probably there are masters in your camp who’d be happy to assist—keeping it in house and all.
LOL.

That is a VERY Patristic -- and IMHO -- excellent thought. I make a big deal, when somebody is foolish enough to give me the floor, to say that the Greeks are right to make a big deal of the "offertory" (when the bread and wine are brought forward) and that it is not without meaning that the 'gifts' bread and wine are "the work of human hands" as well as the fruit of the earth. In fact a vineyard pretty much requires some degree of civilization.
So when we offer bread and wine we are offering the sweat of the farm worker, the anxiety of the wheat grower, the work of the teamsters who truck the goods to market, the wholesaler, the retailer, everyone with their sins as well as their productive work. What is (as we think) transformed into Christ by his once-for-all sacrifice is YOU!
And this necessarily has an eschatological side - we proclaim Christ's death until he comes again - in that the transformation in us is a process which will be brought to completion for the vast majority of us only at the consummation.
When we offer the bread and wine, when we offer the body and blood of Christ, we are essentially tied up to that offering. We are members of the body which was offered on Calvary.
Great Post ,MD
From the words of the Late Blessed Archbishop Fulton Sheen...
“A reasonable being should ask himself why - if chemicals can enter into plants, and plants be taken up into animals, and animals be taken into man - why man himself, who is the peak of visible creation, should be denied the privilege of being assimilated into a higher power? The rose has no right to say that there is no life above it and neither has man, who has a vast capacity and unconquerable yearning for eternal life and truth and love.”

I essentially agree.
CERTAINLY HE has to do all that, effect all that . . . the flesh, the carnal flesh in and of itself is only death.
HE ALONE IS RESURRECTION LIFE—IN US, IN THE WORLD, IN CREATION.
imho.
[donning haz mat suit as I type. Prottys are great at shredding our own. One of our ‘extra’ RELIGIOUS ‘skills.’]
LOL.
Thanks for your kind post and ping.
Good point.
So, what then? You don’t follow Catholic belief?
And you claim to be a Catholic?
Judith Anne posted her opus, begged to be banned, was not banned, and is now again posting on FR.
It is all a matter of record. In fact I am pinging GRPL secretary/historian Alex Murphy to chime in with the date/time of those posts.
Why does post #2476 refer all the way back to post #3? How curious.
And those neverending link files are not history, they are obsessiveness dressed in HTML.
Is this the face of the Reformed? Post after post seems to illustrate that Reformed doctrine is based not on a positive exposition of Reformed doctrine which one can agree with on doctrinal points, but exists exlusively in the world of the negative: junior-high tactics of ridicule and taunting.
Is this the impression that the Reformed wish to leave on the reader? This thread is an embarrassment to the Reformed, but do any of them realize it?
2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
God disagrees with you...
You will also notice that the Holy Ghost is sent and given, and that he does things through God or through Christ.
2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
There's quite a number of things the Holy Spirit does independently...
There is also a disticntion made between the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ.
So there's 2 Holy Spirits...That make a total of 5 in the Catholic Trinity...
I'll stick with what the scripture teaches instead of the Catholic wresting private interpretation of the scriptures...
There is a lot about the Gospels that Paul forgot to mention. That doesn't invalidate the Gospels.
If that is a reference to the Eucharist it is singularly the most repugnant and offensive posting I have ever witnessed in nearly 10 years on Free Republic.
From yesterday's sermon by St. Peter Chrysologus in the Liturgy of the Hours:
Paul says: I appeal to you by the mercy of God to present your bodies as a sacrifice, living and holy. The prophet said the same thing: Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but you have prepared a body for me. Each of us is called to be both a sacrifice to God and his priest. Do not forfeit what divine authority confers on you. Put on the garment of holiness, gird yourself with the belt of chastity. Let Christ be your helmet, let the cross on your forehead be your unfailing protection. Your breastplate should be the knowledge of God that he himself has given you. Keep burning continually the sweet smelling incense of prayer. Take up the sword of the Spirit. Let your heart be an altar. Then, with full confidence in God, present your body for sacrifice. God desires not death, but faith; God thirsts not for blood, but for self-surrender; God is appeased not by slaughter, but by the offering of your free will.
Henry Tudor didn’t care for Lutherans, sure. But the fledgling CofE turned Calvinist immediately. The basis for the WCF and the original doctrines of the CofE reside in Calvin and not Luther, and certainly not in Zwingli.
I don’t claim that the Catholic Church had anything more than animosity for Tyndale. Yet, Tudor operated on his own, with his own agent betraying Tyndale to the Belgian secular authorities.
That's odd. I read the Bible for myself, decide for myself what to think, don't agree with everything the church teaches and you've essentially agreed with the Catholic church that I'm going to hell for it.
Here,..... in post 1358
This is, IMHO, the key to Paul.
In Adam and Eve we turned our back on the source of the spirit which made us living souls. We have been dying every since, dying spiritually and physically.
In Christ, into whom we are grafted by the Spirit, by the instrumentality of Baptism, that dying is in principle accomplished. And in Christ we are given His Spirit. So now such life as is in us is not ours but His.
And between now and our 'falling asleep' it is all the old man dying and the new man coming to life. The travail of which Paul speaks in Romans is OUR being born, and what feel like death agonies are really birth pangs.
@ SFA: Sheen really was remarkable.
Neither does it invalidate Paul.
But your comment indicates mind reading on your part or some claim to special knowledge or revelation, that you know that Paul *forgot* to mention stuff.
It would be more accurate to comment that Paul *didn't* mention a lot about the Gospels.
My guess is that likely the reason he didn't rehash what happened in the Gospels was that it was because what was recorded in the Gospels for us, was pretty common knowledge to them, back in the days when Paul wrote his letters.
Doing the Office of Readings by myself is so funny. Nancy is next to me on the couch, but her devotions come from Magnificat. And I'm bouncing up and down and pumping my fist ...
1 )There is only one "RC" website, it is www.vatican.va.
2) I have told you numerous times that the term "RC" is offensive to Catholics, particularly those of Scottish and Irish ancestry because it was a term used by the British to demean and denigrate the Irish because, when spoken by them it is pronounced as "arse". Yet you continue to use it but have no problem mashing the abuse button at the use of the similar term O'P_ C_ _ r. How typically hypocritical. (By the way, there are still places in Ireland that using that term on a Catholic will get you a broken nose regardless of your gender so use it cautiously and at your own risk)
3) Projecting your poor English skills into the statements of the Church is a revelation of your ignorance. The true meaning of "Co-Redemptrix" does not make Mary equal to Jesus. However, the ignorance of the people at large in the language of the Church makes it easy for the ignorant to fool people into the wrong belief. It is for this reason that that the Pope has not proclaimed the title of Co-Redemptrix" as dogma. It was only descriptive.
NOT AT ALL. Not even the tiniest bit.
No wonder y’all have such a struggle reading plain, simple, straight-forward Scripture and taking it at face value!
Sheesh!
What an extremely off the wall inference, interpretation.
Out for a walk and some mind reading practice?
Besides, given your Taipei location, for all I knew, you were an aficianado of stinky dofu/tofu. Lots of my friends loved the stuff.
I just think it’s an interesting cultural thing and an interesting label for a food. It’s fun to play with.
However, I realize that the rabid cliques are notorious for thin skins so I can understand there might occasionally be a hysterical freak out over a very unique dofu/tofu.
I suppose in a desperate pinch when nothing else was available, I could be convinced to use a very tiny bit as the bread. I’d sure search high and low to avoid it, however.
God would probably think the whole situation would be hilarious.
Here is the comment I made. How is that telling you that you are going to hell according to the Catholic Church?
"Oh, no, the Catholic Church won't guarantee you a place in hell for heresy. You can do that all by yourself."
