UPDATE: GOOD NEWS!
PRAISE GOD for He is good - ALL THE TIME!
We received some VERY VERY good news today! Amanda received a needle aspiration/biopsy of both masses today. Within TWO hours they were able to identify the culprit... She has blastomycosis (blasto for short). It’s a fungal infection endemic to our area due to the WI River here in Wausau.
She is still in the hospital (our oldest who is 18 is with her tonight having a “sleepover party”), and she may be there for a while longer.
They will do a full body scan tomorrow to see if they find any other infected areas, then they will start her on anti-fungal medications. We’re not sure if they will start with IV treatment for a couple weeks in the hospital, or if she will be able to come home, but she will need to be on medication for around 6 months, at least.
She may still need surgery on the mass in her calf - the Orthopedic Surgeon and Infectious Disease specialist are discussing that tonight and we should know more tomorrow. They are thinking of going in, removing the infected mass, and making whatever repairs they need (if necessary) to her muscle and such in that area.
I can’t even express my anger regarding the treatment we received at the local hospital here, but right now I’m just going to be happy because this - according to her doctors - is probably the BEST news we could have hoped for!!!
PRAISE GOD, and THANK YOU JESUS!!!
My deepest heartfelt thanks to all of you for all your prayers, love, and especially the emotional support you all have given me. I know I wouldn’t have been able to stay strong and push so hard to get this taken care of without everyone “having my back” so to speak.
I will update again tomorrow after I speak with her doctors and the scan is completed. Thanks again for all the prayers. Amanda was able to briefly look through the thread last night, and she was very touched by everyone’s posts. Thank you so much everyone!
Thanks for letting us know. Continued prayers for a swift and successful treatment.
[the BEST news we could have hoped for!!!]
I am so happy for Amanda, you and your family. Wonderful news. What a weight has been lifted off your hearts!
Thank you Lord.
Prayers continue. Glad that the news is good; hope that they get her fixed up soon.
Glory be to God, our Creator, Physician, and Savior.
I read your post earlier tonight and I am so happy that your daughters problem has been diagnosed. My husband aged 74 had a lump in his leg last fall. It too was difficult to diagnose but he is well now. God Bless you all.
WoooHoooo
Thank you for sharing the good news!
Prayers for Amanda’s speedy recovery.
