“-—Even a few VFW’s but don’t expect to find any Romney or Huntsman family members...”

I have never been a mormon. My dad was raised mormon, but left it. His brother remained mormon.

My Dad came home from WWII with a purple heart (serious injury).

His brother served 27 years as an officer in the US Army, including at least two tours in Vietnam. His sil retired from the US Army, as well.

Romney does NOT equal all mormons.

I will defend their lifesyle, not their religious beliefs.

Mine is hard enough without trying to bend others to my religious way of thinking.

- - - - - - -
Lest you mistake my intentions, I do not seek to bend others to my religion. I seek to show them a relationship with Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. Salvation by Grace through faith. If they trust in Jesus alone for salvation, not works or a “church”, then I don’t really care what church they attend as long as it is Bible believing and orthodox on the essential tenants of Christianity.

It shouldn’t be a hard road. Christ said His burden (load) was light and His yoke easy. Faith in Christ is never a “hard road”.

BTW, cute kitty pic.

One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president.

That statement , like Obambi's 57 states , is the kind I can not imagine coming from the mouth of an American Citizen .

The original source came from a member who did not write it down but told to others have repeated it is not a revelation!
But this hearsay makes for good fodder for the disrespectful smarmy humans who are just wanting to stir the pot like there is nothing else that has to be done on earth but sit around shooting spitballs hoping it will make up for the inadequacy in the lives that are so lacking!
Who can not follow directions of the Lord in their own scriptures!

John 14
15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 15:
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Faith in Christ is never a “hard road”.

It isn't so much that. It is trying to reconcile that with all the corruption and greed of many of our fellow Americans. Too many who are in it just for themselves, no matter the cost. Too many that deserve nothing more than to be lined up against a wall. IMO.

I served with three practicing Mormons in the Navy and several backsliding Mormons and they were all very dependable men. I also lived in SE idaho for 3 years during my time in the Navy and the people there were good salt-of-the-Earth types. Perhaps that’s why I’m so much more tolerant of the LDS church than other FReepers.

When I said foxhole, I didn’t mean a literal foxhole. I meant that I’d be glad to stand shoulder to shoulder with a Mormon to save America.

It wasn’t directed toward Mormons. Were it Massachusetts I’d be using names like Weld and Baker and Tissei; Florida would see names like Bush, Crist and Foley. The disgusting dearth of veterans amongst our GOP ‘leaders’ is only mitigated slightly by the even larger dearth among young people on the Left.

The original source came from the personal journal of one of those that was present (John J. Roberts). Not hearsay but a first hand recounting (which is common in LDS history and also the source for many of the “canonized” teachings of Joseph Smith.

Secondly, if it is so suspect then WHY have so many LDS leaders, apostles, and prophets given the quote credence in their General Conferences (where the “word of the Lord” goes forth to the membership)?

Now, since you cannot refute those comments, you resort to ad hominum attacks again. *Sigh*

And here you go again accusing us of not being able to keep the “commandments” and not loving Christ or of not being loving to our fellow man.

Resty, it is not loving for you to make false accusations against us, or attempt to read our minds.

However, you are absolutely correct that there is a lack of “inadequacies” in my life. Christ makes up for any lack in my life and any “inadequacy”.

He is more fulfilling than any “church” could ever be. Come find peace and rest in Him and Him alone.

But you are not suggesting your father and uncle were typical either . Ever been to a missionary farewell ? Big blow outs , no ? Ever heard anyone suggest to a young man he should get active and right with the church so he could go on a mission and not get drafted ? Ever seen the confused look on that persons face when the young man said military service is my duty to country just like we learned in Scouts ? Ever seen so much as a don't let the door hit you in the keister(popular usage with Reagan and Mormons)when that young person shipped out for Viet Nam or any place hosting the current exchange of unpleaantries ? Utah has the lowest percentage of veterans of any state , ever wonder why ?

“The disgusting dearth of veterans amongst our GOP ‘leaders’ is only mitigated slightly by the even larger dearth among young people on the Left.”

The military has been a volunteer force, shrinking in size since the mid 1970s.

Meaning fewer people become veterans, overall. That is just the math.

My own congressman is one of the most conservative in the US House, and is a Vietnam era NON-vet. Dana Rohrabacher.

And John Kerry is a vet. And everything in between.

My responses from your questions (in caps for ease of reading, not shouting), based upon my experience while living in Utah....

Ever been to a missionary farewell ? YES, SEVERAL.

Big blow outs , no ? FAREWELLS, NOT SO MUCH, RETURNS HOWEVER? HUGE PARTIES, HUGE.

Ever heard anyone suggest to a young man he should get active and right with the church so he could go on a mission and not get drafted ? ACTUALLY, SINCE WE NO LONGER HAVE THE DRAFT, NO. HOWEVER, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY AT LEAST 4 OLDER LDS GENTLEMEN (3 WENT ON MISSIONS AND ONE JOINED THE MILITARY). ALL FOUR OF THESE MEN ADMITTED THEY WERE ENCOURAGED TO GO ON A LDS MISSION SO THEY WOULD NOT BE DRAFTED.

Ever seen the confused look on that persons face when the young man said military service is my duty to country just like we learned in Scouts ? YES, I HAVE.

Ever seen so much as a don’t let the door hit you in the keister(popular usage with Reagan and Mormons)when that young person shipped out for Viet Nam or any place hosting the current exchange of unpleaantries ? NOT FROM THE CHURCH DIRECTLY, BUT I DO KNOW ONE MAN WHO PUT OFF HIS MISSION IN ORDER TO JOIN THE MILITARY AFTER 9/11 AND WAS DISOWNED BY HIS PARENTS.

But this hearsay makes for good fodder for the disrespectful smarmy humans who are just wanting to stir the pot...

Isn't this Lds elder, Rammell "stirring the pot" by wanting to have an entire meeting around what you regard as "hearsay" -- and what was written down in a journal and then repeated by Lds "prophets," "apostles," and other general authorities -- over 20 times alone at General Confernces?

(Have you written to Rammell asking him not to stir the pot, or do you reserve your venom for only those who relay what the stirrers are doing?)

Why would I go to an LDS missionary farewell? I said I was never a Mormon. I said my Dad was raised Mormon, but he left it.

And all your talk about the draft predates the present by 30+ years. Anybody under about age 55 would have not faced a draft.

(My impression is you may be dealing with some old resentments.)

Those were not my questions to you, but kbennkc. I just responded (IN CAPS).

As noted in my comments (the CAPS part), I do know some older gentlemen (all over 60) who were told to go on a mission to avoid the draft. I never said it was younger men.

And I am not sure why you think I am dealing with “old resentments”. Please clarify.

Good point.

Resty, you should be emailing (and calling) Rammell and let him know of the “unreliability” of this prophecy. He is the one that believes it and is making it part of his campaign.

Or do you dare do that to a “worthy priesthood holder”?

Resty, I can assure you and everyone that the LDS are not going to take over the world. Islam? ... Well that is a dungheap of another stripe perhaps already foreshadowed in The Revelation of John, but not the LDS.

Yes, Resty, you talk bold enough to descendents of Lds bishops like myself, why not the same to someone who apparently has enough authority to call together hundreds of priesthold-holders from wards throughout Idaho state?
