REXBURG -- The LDS Church has issued a statement regarding the church's stance on Idaho gubernatorial candidate Rex Rammell's "elders only" meetings.
Kim Farah, spokeswomen for the LDS church, issued this statement:
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is politically neutral and does not endorse or promote any candidate, party or platform. Accordingly, we hope that the campaign practices of political candidates would not suggest that their candidacy is supported by or connected to the church.
"The so-called 'White Horse Prophecy' is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine."
The White Horse Prophecy was allegedly given by LDS church founder Joseph Smith. According to accounts, Smith states that "the U.S. Constitution will hang by a thread" and that the elders of the LDS church will step up and save it.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Rammell reaffirmed his belief of the prophecy based on his own personal research of alleged statements by former LDS President Ezra Taft Benson.
He issued this statement to the press:
"In order to motivate my fellow elders in the LDS church, I have invited many to attend meetings to discuss Joseph's prophecy and how we can help save the Constitution. Some people, LDS and non-LDS, think it is inappropriate for me to hold such meetings. I think that is ridiculous.
"I have and will hold meetings with all kinds of groups in Idaho. I will speak to each group on matters that are of interest to and directly affect them individually. As such, it would only be appropriate for me to address Joseph Smith's prophecy with people who believe he was a prophet."
Rammell's first meeting will held at the Hampton Inn in Idaho Falls between 7 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 19. Subsequent meetings will be held in Rexburg, Blackfoot, Pocatello, Twin Falls and Boise.
NATE SUNDERLAND
At least they recognize the problem and are willing to discuss it! Most churches are still celebrating Obamas election and the Senate health care vote as a victory for Jesus!
- - - - - - - -
There are FAR more churches who opposed Obama than supported them, at least in the Evangelical/non-denom tradition.
And this is not a new thing. What you don’t seem to get, is this so called “prophecy” was NOT about today. It was regarding JS’s run for POTUS in 1844. It has been used since as an attempted power grab for the LDS, that is all.
It was used during the “Mormon war”, it was used during the Great Depression, it was used during the Cold war. It was used during the Clinton candidacy.
Their discussion of it is nothing new at all.
The POWER behind the throne. Talking to a bunch of in the kitchen, pregnant, barefoot females would be useless.
God will make the US a LDS theocracy
Might as well give that a shot. Nothing else seems to be working. :-))
Don't forget, along with the savior complex comes the superiority complex. The two go hand in hand.
Then expalin all the quotes above.
The “it was a third party report” doesn’t hold water when so many of JS’s inner circle heard it, believed it and reported it. Also, it was a SECOND hand report, by someone who stayed in the LDS church not third hand or by an apostate.
You will see the constitution of the United States almost destroyed. It will hang like a thread.... A terrible revolution will take place in the land of America.... [T]he land will be left without a Supreme Government,... [Mormonism] will have gathered strength, sending out Elders to gather the honest in heart... to stand by the Constitution of the United States.... In these days... God will set up a Kingdom, never to be thrown down.... [T]he whole of America will be made the Zion of God.
- Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., May 6, 1843, in Roberts, Journal of John J. Roberts
Many of JS’s other comments that are doctrine are second hand reports.
Once again LDS’s own writings condemn them.
We report...you decide.
Might as well give that a shot. Nothing else seems to be working.

Before you say that you may want to brush up on the theocracy of Utah during the 19th Century. It was NOT a pretty sight.

:-)) this is a laugh. please laugh along with me. i gave up on the mormon church when i was 11 years old.
(i am trying to hold the grandbaby as i type.)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
church when i was 11 years old.
(i am trying to hold the grandbaby as i type.)
= = = = = = =4
Glad to hear it. Out of curiosity, what are you doing, faithwise, now (if anything)?
Good luck with the grandbaby, I only have a kitten who “helps” me type and that is hard enough. lol.
I had made an argument a little over a year ago, that we should not judge a candidate, such as Mitt Romney, on his religious views, but solely upon his political views. After reading this “White Horse” prophesy, I do not believe that a devout Mormon politician can separate himself from his Mormon beliefs. Anyone that believes that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that the Constitution is inspired by God has serious theological and political problems. I cannot support anyone for POTUS that believes that the US Constitution is a divine document.
(Boy, are you sadly mistaken)
Generally, the liberal denominations tend to be fewer than double figures...*(& even then exceptions in churches within all of these denominations exist):
United Congregationalists (yet Lake Avenue in SoCal is a very conservative congregationalist church)
United Methodists (vs. the conservative Wesleyan denomination & offshoots like the Nazarenes)
Presbyterian - USA (vs. the conservative Presbyterian Church of America)
ELCA Lutheran (vs. the conservative LCMS, WELS, Lutheran Brethren, AALC, LCMC)
Episcopalian/Anglican (though conservative Anglican churches exist)
American Baptist denom (vs. Southern Baptists, independent Baptists, plus another 70 or so Baptist associations...only about two of which are more liberal)
United Reform Church (vs. Christian Reformed Church and American Reformed Church)
Moravian and Quakers (vs. Old Order Amish & most Mennonite churches)
And then the charismatics, Pentecostalists, Foursquare, Evangelicals, non-denoms, where the real growth has taken place -- those are conservative.
Wow, Resty! I didn't know all those quotes Reaganaut posted in #12 were "third party." (They look pretty "first party" to me...they include over 20 statements made Lds general authorities at General Conferences between 1912 and 1963...they include many Lds "prophets"...they include BYU presidents...Tell us, Resty, which of those statements in post #12 were "third party?")
IOW, why would it matter if Smith made it or not? (If Lds has "living" "prophets" and "apostles"...what's interesting here is Mormons critique Christians for not having "living Scripture" and a "living 'prophet'" -- yet in this case wind up treating what Smith said here as a replacement for the Bible...Oh, if it's not in Smith Tongue Bible, we don't know "the exact wording" as it's "really not known."
...nor was it ever made a official Church Revelation.
(Which means you can't trust what your general authorities tell you at General Conferences, eh? Tell us, Resty, which of those statements in post #12 do you deny?)
The White Horse Prophecy was allegedly given by LDS church founder Joseph Smith

The book of mormon “was allegedly given by LDS church founder Joseph Smith” also...
but that didnt stop the LDS from believing Joey Smith ..
Resty how does the LDS explain that they think they are saviors of the Constitution while they discriminate against 50% of Amerticans in practice and in their doctrines ???
Besides being racists, mormons are religtio0us bigots and sexists..
Care to expound how the Constitution of the United States, which has built in provisions to prevent all forms of discrimination and withholding of civil rights, religious rights etc...
is suddenly “owned” by a gang of males who for 180 years have violated the rights of women, non-whites, and Christians ???
Kinda silly isnt it to believe in “the White Horse Prophecy” ???
Especially when it was a known liar named Joey Smith who so called “prophecied” it in the first place ...
I don't care what other people think, too much. People have their own road to travel. Mine is hard enough without trying to bend others to my religious way of thinking. Unless you are talking about Moslems. I consider them to be the greatest threat to Peace. Ever.
I only have a kitten who helps me type
I think it is a conspiracy. There aren't any coincidences, are there?
“I dont agree with LDS theology, but I will gladly share a foxhole with them to save America.”
If you want to make this guy’s approach about LDS, you can.
If you want to make his approach about the Constitution, you can.
One, the other, both, or none.
All organizations have leaders, members, governing boards, etc. And they hold meetings. Member meetings, board meetings, etc.
I believe in Idaho one can find what they are looking for.
—Utah north.
—Aryan brotherhood.
—University liberalism.
—Great skiing, hunting, fishing.
The question in my mind: Is he even the leading conservative prospect?
I don’t think he does himself any political favors by merging his church with his candidacy.
The only issue I’m interested in is whether Rex is another Romney/Huntsman Republican; nobody in their family will be heading to ANY type of of military service...ever. The males sit back and watch females from other families deploy multiple times to hazardous fire areas.
-—Even a few VFW’s but don’t expect to find any Romney or Huntsman family members...
I will gladly share a foxhole with them to save America.

Probably not...
Mormons arent big on military service...
The closest he or his sons have been to military service.
""My sons are all adults and they've made decisions about their careers and they've chosen not to serve in the military and active duty and I respect their decision in that regard. One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president. I respect that and respect all those and the way they serve this great country."

Ironically, the LDS who choose Military over an LDS mission tend to be “jack mormons” or inactive, there are a few who join after their LDS mission usually b/c they cannot afford the $1000/year tuition at BYU (that is what it was when I was there).
To the LDS the “church” always comes first, before the country, before family and before Jesus Christ.
Nice photoshop. Isn’t the original JS? IIRC, there is a painting of him in his “military” regalia (he had his own army) that was used during his POTUS run (short lived as that was).
