Prayer request from a Catholic missionary in Honduras Received this morning via e-mail:
"If it were I, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him... He saves the needy from the sword... He saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth." - Job 5: 8,15-16
Dear Friends,
I realize that the current political instability in Honduras may not seem like a big deal, and maybe to the rest of the world, it isn't a big deal - but what happens over this weekend will determine the fate of this small country, and more specifically, the fate of the Church in this country, and the fate of our mission here in Comayagua.
Over the past ten months, I've put down roots here, which is why when I was faced this week with the choice of whether to stay or to go (back to the States), I chose to stay. I'm writing to ask all of you to please, please pray for the mission here in Comayagua, especially over the next couple of days.
I cannot emphasize enough the great need for prayer in this difficult situation. If Hugo Chavez makes good on his threats to the Honduran government, his actions in the coming days (and the subsequent reactions of the Honduran people) could be disastrous. If you can commit to being a prayer warrior for us until this conflict is resolved, please leave a comment on my latest blog post with your prayers, sacrifices and words of encouragement. Whether it's a single prayer, a Mass or a Rosary - we would be so grateful. (As a community, we will be praying a novena to Our Lady Help of Christians - posted on our Community Blog - starting tomorrow.) If I am able, I will share your comments with the rest of the missionaries. It helps to know that were not in this alone!
If you still don't have any idea what's been happening down here, I've tried to summarize the events of the past week on my blog. Please stay close in prayer - I will post updates when I can!
In Jesus and Mary,
Emily Byers

The power of prayer is critical at this moment. Please add these people to your daily prayers.
Don’t expect any help from the President of the USA. President Obama won’t intervene..

Lamh Foistenach Abu!
I KNOW that the power of prayer works! Prayer made and will continue to do so!

Honduras is the USA’s biggest Aircraft Carrier. It’s crawling with American CIA.
There are at least 1000 American troops stationed in Honduran bases and co-resident with Honduran troops.
There have been no American troop withdrawals nor removal of equipment.
What’s going to happen when THugo Chaves sends troops into Honduras and destroys American-owned equipment and kills American servicemen?
Either Obama is a complete FOOL, or he is luring THugo unto a trap.
Wow! Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for pinging your list. With this being a holiday, I expect the thread won’t get too much traffic until later ... much later :-)
Prayers lifted.
Well, we know Obama would never lure his buddy Hugo into a trap, so I guess we have to go with your first option.
Seriously, I don’t think Obama actually bothered to find out much about either Honduras or what was happening there before he shot his mouth off. He’s not a smart or knowledgeable person and he evidently does no research on anything. As soon as Hugo started squealing because Zelaya, his hand picked minion, was not going to get away with his auto-golpe attempt, Obama rushed to support him. But I honestly doubt that he really knew much about the situation, and now, of course, he can’t back down.
I don’t think Hugo will attack openly. The Hondurans already caught some Nicaraguans infiltrating in a more distant part of Honduras, though, and I think what you will have is Chavistas from various left wing parts of Lat Am, particularly Nicaragua, infiltrating to try to stir things up and create chaos.
Prayers on the way for the Honduran people.
Prayers for the Hondurans! They must be feeling very beseiged right now.
0bama was helping Chavez orchestrate this attempted takeover by Zelaya.
I sincerely doubt that is his thinking in this case, but if it is, WOW. Hats off to him.
Oh, I agree; he and the raving leftists he has put into the State Department (and btw, I think he appointed another one of those non-vetted “czars” just for Latin America) are definitely on the side of Chavez and were working to help him.
But the stupidity of his statements indicate that - perhaps blinded by ideology - neither he nor the State Department were serious about analyzing the situation and its legality. They just thought they were going to come out and defend their man if they failed in their efforts to make the Hondurans keep him, and that Honduras would buckle immediately once Bambi began to bluster.
Naturally, as soon as Chavez came out and made his statement, that was the signal for Bambi to come forward and swoon and wring his hands about those evil tyrants (the constitutional government of Honduras). But to their great amazement, Honduras is fighting back. I think Bambi can’t back down, but I think he’s also furious that they’re opposing his will.
One of the reasons the press is trying so hard to keep the truth from coming out is that if it does, it makes it perfectly clear that Bambi has no legal grounds for criticizing and interfering in Honduras, so then we go back to Westerbrook’s question:
Was it because he was supporting Hugo, or because he is really stupid? Maybe both, IMO.
Prayers up.
