But now, after the election and in the wake of Proposition 8, a Mormon neo-conservative like Romney has an even bigger problem. Now he not only would have to overcome the ill-deserved bigotry of the South, but he would also be subjected to the fury of some moderates who feel that the gays got unfairly treated in part because of Mormon influence with regards to that vote in California.

Yeah, with Romney, it was all about bigotry. Never mind his support of gay 'rights' and abortion 'rights' in the past. Never mind Romneycare. Never mind his failure to support gun rights. Never mind the clear impression that he will say anything to win over a given electorate and then change when he is selling himself to a new electorate. Never mind the lack of military background in the family, which matters quite a bit in the South.

It was all just bigotry, I tell you!

Hah - you mean the same CA where a majority of voters supported the initative?

This article is totally gay. But it is right - Southerners got on board with that criminal Huckabee rather than Mitt.

Oh goodness... que the violins.

The Mormons get persecuted like the Jews were?

Ill-deserved "bigotry" against Romney from "the South"?

Mitt Romney is a flaming liberal opportunist and richly deserves Conservative rejection.

The only bigotry here is the one in the article against Southerners and Christians.

And comparing skepticism of the Romnatic and the persecution of Jews is repulsive.

Speaking on behalf of Dixie, we would be highly offended if anyone were to call us politically correct.

But on a more serious note, any Mormon who had lived awhile in either the South or the Midwest could not have been very surprised that Romney took a shellacing in the Midwest and the South.

Methinks McNaughton applies his shellacking with too broad a brush.

The South and the Midwest are very large areas, and Romney was actually born in the Midwest. His father was Governor of Michigan in the 1960s.

Mitt won the primary there and came in second in Iowa. So I doubt they really hate Mormons there.

McNaughton's probably more on target about Los Angeles and San Francisco wanting to take Prop. 8 out on the Mormons.

I did not support Romney because he is not a conservative. I do take a lot of crap off of supposedly intelligent Freepers because I am a member of the LDS Church.

Or maybe they just don’t like Taxachusetts liberals.

this is a stupid article written by a child like intellect.

Not sure what the point is except to broadly goad guilt out someone for believing in a concept that is rooted in humanity and religion, not an ideology.

If this writer has a problem with Mormons he should say so and not try to pretend he owns an intellect greater than a shallow bowl.

This article is so poorly written that it should be accompanied by a couple of aspirin for the unfortunate reader who misguidedly attempts to continue reading after encountering the first paragraph.

It was suggested that being anti-Mormon is the new politically correct anti-semitism given what happened to Romney in Dixie.

Nah...

It was ANTI-RINOism at work. if it was the OTHER thing; it would be spelled:

anti-MormonISM.

(it's amazing that nobody seems to ever remember Harry Reid's religious persuasion)

I found it:

Reid graduated from Basic High School in 1957, and earned an associate of arts degree from Southern Utah State College in 1959. That year, he married his high school sweetheart. She was Jewish and Reid was unchurched, but shortly after their marriage, both joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1960 and 1961, the first of their five children were born.
