Pope John XXIII believed Padre Pio, the hugely popular Capuchin monk who was canonised in 2002, was a fraud who had "incorrect" relations with women and whose soul was in danger....
Sergio Luzzatto...has also found documents in the Vatican archives suggesting that Padre Pio may have faked his stigmata, the marks of the wounds of Christ, with acid. Vatican officials say both allegations are already well known....
Followers of Padre Pio believe he exuded "the odour of sanctity", had the gift of bilocation (being in two places at once), healed the sick and could prophesy the future.

***And why is an article from 2007, news today?***
This wasn’t posted under breaking news, now was it?
I wonder why you are trying to discredit the post based solely on the date of the article.
Hmmmmmm
Did I ever say that it was posted under breaking news? Not quite.
And these “Old news” articles are just that, Old news.
*yawn*
Just taking up space for the “Wack-a-Catholic” crowd.
There are people out there with a terrible hatred of Padre Pio.
==================================================================================================================================They Hate the Truth... he was said to go through so Many gloves that were bloodied. He was famous for his 18 hours hearing Confession.. He also used to have Physical encounters with the devil who would slam against walls in his bedroom in the middle of the night.
His stigmata dissappeared one hour before his death! you can see his Incorrupt Body displayed in Italy Today !
>>And perpetuated by an anti-Catholic pot stirring freeper.<<
Don’t think of it as name calling!
It’s just catagorizing, truth be told.
Odd, I was going to categorize your post as doing anything possible to take attention away from the posted article .
Care to enlighten us about why the article is wrong without following the usual RC defense of smearing the source of the post, the date of the original article, or your disdain of the poster? FWIW all of which have thus far been employed on this thread.
Sulphuric acid
I believe Padre Pio was a great mystic worthy of study by any Christian. Much of what he wrote parallels my own beliefs.
Time published a short article in April: Padre Pio, Pope Benedict: Soul Mates? which was nice, considering the source.
These rumors dogged Pio throughout his life, and certain hostile opponents of him in the Church perpetuated these rumors against him. I read a book about him and most of them started with one obnoxious prelate in the 1920s who Padre Pio refused to denounce even though he was being slandered viciously.
The people close to Pio, truth be told, never made any of these accusations.
Also, if his stigmata were faked, why has all trace of them dissappeared from his body? He had the marks for 50 years! Thousands of people saw them or touched them. Doctors examined them. A few days before his death they were suddenly gone. If he had burned his flesh with acid, certainly there would be evidence of it on his skin.
“There are people out there with a terrible hatred of Padre Pio.”
Ya think?!!
“Assaults by the devil were not uncommon to the good Padre. It’s as if the devil was aware of the goodness of this man from the beginning in the seminary. The devil would try to intimidate the soul of Padre Pio, tempt him with the most vile scenes and even approach him as the “angel of light” (devil). One day the devil approached Padre as his superior and requested that he cease his prayers and penances. Padre asked this friar to repeat after him.....”Blessed Be Jesus!” The “friar” ran out and disappeared, leaving behind him smoke and the scent of sulfur. Satan would make disgusting noises, shouts, screams, and even spite at him and fling him around. There were many physical bouts, which left Padre bruised and shook-up.”
because these were old rumours that have been debunked again and again.
The gift of bi-location. That’s an interesting one. I’ve had several close friends come up to me or call me in a startled fashion, very certain they had just been talking with me in person when they turned away for a moment and I wasn’t there anymore. Almost as if a parallel universe exists.
Oops, have to go now, ...my doppelganger is due home any moment, you know...;^)
Damn,..did I write that? ;^)
Uh -- huh!!! These must have all happened before Padre discovered his gift of bilocation, right???

Nope, don’t care to, thanks!
If it was posted by a non-member of the “Wack-a-Catholic” club, especially one that doesn’t take the time to post tons of “Wack-A-Catholic” articles during Holy Week, I might consider it.
As it stands, I have better things to do. Packing for driving back home for my darling namesake’s first birthday.
Some things are really bigger than trying to convince the closed minded.

If this was on YouTube, it would rival Todd Bentley!
Well the one that made him a saint, JPII, who is going through it now would have known. He did a record 432 canionizations.
True, the process of cannonization is truly laborious. Even those persons that are on the “fasttrack” Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and even John Paul II, who are the most well-known examples, the process has been speeded up, but by the little bit. But it is still a bit laborious.
