Italy's favourite saint was a fraud believed former pope

Pope John XXIII believed Padre Pio, the hugely popular Capuchin monk who was canonised in 2002, was a fraud who had "incorrect" relations with women and whose soul was in danger....

Sergio Luzzatto...has also found documents in the Vatican archives suggesting that Padre Pio may have faked his stigmata, the marks of the wounds of Christ, with acid. Vatican officials say both allegations are already well known....

Followers of Padre Pio believe he exuded "the odour of sanctity", had the gift of bilocation (being in two places at once), healed the sick and could prophesy the future.

And I heard from friends in my rosary group that Blessed Teresa of Calcutta had some really very dark nights of her soul. Had seen a documentary last summer on EWTN not long after the book came out, when all the news was about those really bad dark nights of the soul, (the big focus of) of her life, her words, and also showing the time right after she died of the laying in state and the state funeral that India gaved her.

So wait... let me see if I understand this right...

If you quote Scripture (such as 2 Tim. 2:15) then you're supporting your opinion, but if wagglebee or another Catholic quotes Scripture (including a large block of St. Matthew's Gospel) in a manner that you disagree with it's a "pre-programmed RCC talking point"?

How is that intellectually honest?

I have no problem saying that all Christians should be students of the Word, but when we're drawing contradictory conclusions, that means somebody's interpretation is wrong. I'll stick to the Pillar and Foundation of Truth.

Having come back to post a post to me from Salvation, and seeing a number of the posts, some of which would make me scratch my head. This thread has gotten very interesting.

the “Pillar and Foundation of Truth” is Christ, not the RCC nor the SBC. Men in both organizations lead people astray.

Any who conclude that works aid in the saving of a soul deny the sufficiency of Christ. He alone is capable of saving anyone from hell and nobody else is capable of helping Him. “Ye must be born again.” How much can the one being born play in the birthing? Every baby delivered from his mother is totally dependent on her (and those who aid in the delivery) for being born. He can’t make it happen nor stop from happening. “Ye must be born again.” No talk about earning new birth. Good works AFTER being born again bring glory to God, earn rewards in Heaven, etc. But one in the spiritual birth canal can do no good works.

If Christ isn’t sufficient for new birth salvation (the word salvation also includes the on-going salvation - keeping from sin - of the Holy Spirit, and the final salvation - being kept from the wrath of God on judgment day), then new birth will not take place.

Christ is sufficient! He needs no human, though He does condescend to use us to proclaim His gospel.

I think some other poster is projecting...tsk, tsk.

So, does the prohibition on reading other posters' minds apply only to me, or does it apply to other people to?

“Judaism has been around for 3320 years yet most Catholics
think it’s a false religion.”

I certainly can’t speak for ALL Catholics, but I don’t know of any that think Judaism is a false religion. To believe that, we would be cutting our tree from its roots! Jesus was a Jew. His mother was a Jew. His apostles were Jews. The Jewish Scripture is part of our Scripture. Jews are indeed our elders in faith. Personally I hold the Jewish faith in highest esteem. You are God’s chosen people, and always will be!

actually, I believe Ruffin discounted the story of Pio guiding the bomber pilots because he could find no one who attested to it.

Some of the other miracles, however, he spoke directly with witnesses and others who knew Pio

Do you think I was talking about you? Why is that?

Um, because you were responding to a post directed at me?

I know you think you're having great fun, and I hope you don't regret it at some future time.

As for me, I was a member of your church for six years and did my best to be true and loyal. But apparently because I didn't disown my culture and become an urban Irishman all my efforts were in vain.

You may laugh at me all you please. But any church that thinks it is too good for my beloved mother to belong to is beneath my contempt. Perhaps you'd like to laugh at her too?

At any rate, it's you who missed out on that one. I know her.

Peter may not have been “Pope” as we understand it now, but in the AD 60s, both he and Paul were executed after serving at the Church in the belly of the beast, which in AD 64-67 was Nero’s Rome. Since Peter was heading the Church in Rome when he was killed, the Bishop of Rome is now considered his successor. That St. Peter was there, in Rome, was attested to by Clement of Rome, the 3rd Bishop of Rome or “Pope” if you will, in his letter which circulated in the AD 90s.

Oh there are lots of projectors on these threads. If you want to catagorize yourself, that’s fine by me.

But truly. I don’t know, maybe it’s me but I don’t really understand a word you are talking about.

Who brought up your mother? What in the world is Urban Irish?

I’ve got some Irish in me, I’ve never been asked to be “Urban” anything.

Huh?

oh...I see. Your hatred of Catholicism is not really about Catholic doctrine...it is a personal vendetta.

I am relieved to hear it, for if you understood me and still maintained your attitude I would have to conclude that you were one of the most cold-blooded POS's in existence.

Sorry. I didn't realize that us "rednecks" are so low that even rightwing Roman Catholics can hate us and we're not supposed to react in any way. My bad.

Because poor rural Anglo-American white Southerners of her generation are considered an "un-Catholic race" and don't belong in the "universal church" with all real human beings.

I think you need to take a deep breath,
A poster called himself a redneck, not you,

The poster is Catholic so now a broad brush concludes that Catholics hate “rednecks”?

I call myself a Pollack all the time. Here. The other Poles don’t get offended.

Learn from it.

I come from a long line of Catholic white trash. More urban white trash than the backwoods type, but real white trash nonetheless.

But I do get sick of being called an uppity urban snob because I don’t live in the boonies and I attend a Catholic Church.

And I do get sick of high and mighty Baptists making fun of a genuine 20th century holy man.
