Italy's favourite saint was a fraud believed former pope
TimesOnine ^ | October 25, 2007 | Richard Owen

Pope John XXIII believed Padre Pio, the hugely popular Capuchin monk who was canonised in 2002, was a fraud who had "incorrect" relations with women and whose soul was in danger....

Sergio Luzzatto...has also found documents in the Vatican archives suggesting that Padre Pio may have faked his stigmata, the marks of the wounds of Christ, with acid. Vatican officials say both allegations are already well known....

Followers of Padre Pio believe he exuded "the odour of sanctity", had the gift of bilocation (being in two places at once), healed the sick and could prophesy the future.

Quite a telling rebuttal.

Both of you, knock it off.

Don't make this thread "about" yourselves. That is "making it personal" and very distracting and discourteous to the other Freepers.

The RCC has twisted this Scripture - as it has done with so many others - into meaning that only the select group of RCC appointed men can understand Scripture.

On the contrary, Protestants have a twisted belief that says that ANY of them can understand Scripture but the Catholic Church cannot.

This is totally contrary to the Biblical instruction to believers to be students of the Word (2 Tim 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”)

And Peter also correctly realized that you would misinterpret this (2 Peter 3:15-17).

Well isn't THIS just the cutest thread though!

How is it possible to say anything one way or the other about this? John XXIII could have been wrong or right. The Church says he was wrong. Unless we had access to all the proceedings, how are we going to be able to discuss who is right?

As to the attributed miracles? Why not? What kind of limits shall we put on saints? Our Lord said,"And greater things than there shall you do."

If you think Catholics are at best deluded in the major principles of their theology, you will probably think that we're deluded in thinking Padre Pio a saint. If you don't, you probably won't.

But having tasted the article a little, I'd say it has a flavor reminiscent of the Apple of Discord. It looks to me like something tossed up just so that there can be a disagreement and maybe some opportunities take little digs at one another.

As I said, cute.

I’ve heard so many of the pre-programmed RCC talking points that it’s boring to see them time and time again.

Isn’t it amazing at how the pre-programmed Calvinist predestination and sola scriptura talking points keep coming back over and over again.

You've given us a few examples in the past days of the kinds of websites where you learn garbage like this.

FACT!

It's embarrassing to have to point this out, but

When somebody with the same last name as I have talks about throwing a bone, it's kind of like a benediction.

And if Pope John XXIII was right about this, what else to Protestants believe he was right about.

>>But making fun of people for using King James English? That sounds like Obama.<<

Hmmmm, how about an example where Obama made fun of someone using the “Kings English”

Holy crap, this is the exact statement made

>>Trust in Rome if ye wish, it will burn when the Lord’s judgment comes on the Earth.<<

It’s not a quote from the KJV for heavens sake.

If I posted with thees thous and thys of the Douay-Rhemes, FReepers would have a blast.

Gosh, I’ll have to ponder that one. But I could guess that the poster wanted to insult Catholicism and their beliefs today? Or maybe he wanted to feel complacent and arrogant in his own perceived, perfect form of Christianity?

I am reading a wonderful biography about Bl. Teresa of Calcutta right now.

There were writings at first that she wanted destroyed. Then she wanted all kept for records as she formed her new order, the Missionaries of Charity.

That’s all the further I am into the book right now.

“Come to the Light” is the name of the book.

>>That is a factual lie. I never called anybody a redneck. I jokingly referred to myself as a redneck....Your use of “apparently” indicates you can read my mind, although you didn’t take the time to see that your premise is wrong.<<

I think some other poster is projecting...tsk, tsk.
