Here's a photograph of a car I see around town quite a bit:
So here's the question: which one of those stickers makes all the rest redundant? Is it the 2-year old Kerry-Edwards sticker? The sticker for the Human Rights Campaign? The one that says "Prayerfully Pro-choice? The Episcopal Shield? Or the fact that they are all slapped on the back of the world's ugliest hybrid car?
Couldn't any one of those things, by itself, make the same point about the driver of this car? Yes, we get it. You are liberal. We had you pegged at hello. We are not confused in any respect about your world view.
It is incredible, though. I am a lifelong Episcopalian--and I have absolulely nothing in common with the driver of this car. Nothing. In fact, the driver of this car is for everything I am against. Kerry-Edwards? Please. Gay Marriage? Sorry, no. Pro-abortion? Definitely no. Believer in global warming? Heck no. If we need more dinosaurs to turn into oil, we can always burn the liberals.
I even find the color of the car offensive. Honda describes it as "citrus-yellow." In reality it is a hideous, puke shade of chartreuse. The color is an affront to the senses. As is the entire shape of the car.
And yet, the driver is an Episcopalian. Everyone thinks that Episcopalians still have great aesthetics in common. This car certainly disproves that.
The car is a Honda Insight, which was discontinued in 2006, after Honda was unable to sell more than 14,000 of them. Over a six-year period. Does that say something about whether this driver's choices are in line with the general public's? Does it say anything about the modern Episcopal church's realistic chances for evangelism?
What does it mean when no one's buying what you're selling?
I had been wondering what the one with the equal sign was.... I guess now I know (barf).
"Prayerfully Pro-Choice"??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought you might greatly appreciate this post.
The one I'm responding to with it's mention of Arlin.
don't you just love the euphamism of "choice"? Truth in adverstising should add:
Prayerfully pro-choice to murder babies.
It's not just about global warming. It's about independence from those dastardly muzzies, and growing an important new industry for the US. We cannot thrive or even survive as a nation of burger-flippers and marketeers!! And advanced energy technologies could thwart such New World Order schemes as "controlling Caspian oil", as well as taking away the incentives for dhimmitude!!
However, the very sight of that equals sign for the "Human Rightsers Campaign" can send me into a fit of anger!! And that IS an ugly color!
The "equals sign" sticker indicates support for "equal rights" (barf) for homosexuals. It's a fag-tag, same as a rainbow flag.
Great post.
A couple of stickers of so called E's come mind after reading this"
1. For the most psycho group of stickers on one vehicle: A so called conservative single Mother with two young adult women daughters had the damnest collection on her rear bumper: Starting on the left was the Prayfully Pro Choice, a Boxer Pro Choice and on the far right an "Impeach Clintoon" sticker and in the rear window the E sticker on her big BMW.
2. An asst. priest with a Free the Gitmo Prisoners sticker for the shortest time award. The first Sunday after put the Gitmo sticker on, the stickers came off. After church, the first Sunday, two heavy financial hitters told the head priest that bumper sticker went or their pledges went. One had a Marine Humvee Gunner Son in Iraq, and the other was an Annapolis Grad with his son in the Navy and boots in territory.
The head priest, who has honored our military and country 24/7/365 told the asst. priest if the pledgers dropped their pledges, he would deduct the monthly amount of their pledges from his pay check. He added that asst. priest might end up owing money. There were 5 more of us standing in line to tell the head priest about our pledge withdrawal if the sticker didn't go away. He laughed and said the asst. priest was out with some windex and a razor blade to remove the offending sticker.
The Human Rights Campaign sticker is their logo. And it is the exact shape, configuration and color combination of the BSA's "Denner" patch (which they don't use anymore but still retain the rights to); it was worn by a kid in a Cub Scout Den who was in charge of helping the Den Leader in running the Den Meeting. One of these days the BSA will pull their chain on the trademark violation.
I am a lifelong Episcopalian--and I have absolulely nothing in common with the driver of this car. Nothing. In fact, the driver of this car is for everything I am against.
The day I came to this realization was the same day I left the Episcopal Church - for good.
Whoever owns this car is falling down on the job. What happened to their "Free Tibet," "Hate is Not a Family Value," and "Department of Peace" (that's a new one from the moonbat Kucinich crowd) and "War is Not the Answer" stickers?
All those must be on their other car, which is probably a gas-guzzling SUV they drive around on the QT.
I am firmly opposed to Human Rights.
words escape me!
"Prayerfully Pro-Choice"?!? Guess we know who he's praying to!
At least you realize fuel cells are a battery alternative, not an engine alternative.
However, why do you see the need for hydrogen generation? Fuel cells work just fine on natural gas.
And if you do support hydrogen, because much of the world's natural gas reserves are in the middle east, why bother with fuel cells? Internal combustion engines can run just fine on hydrogen.
Our Anglican brethern are under threat from within. I am proud that the Nigerian Archibishop is standing firm against the hedonists.
I support the development of any practical advanced energy technologies that free us from (or diminish) our dependence on fossil fuels. I especialy support the development of alternative that result in use of localized (i.e., domeestic) energy sources, halt our fatal entanglement with the islamic world, and thus encourage republicanism, not the New World Order.
At this point, since no PRACTICAL alternatives (i.e., those that can be put into production, perform as well or better than current automobiles, and people can afford, etc.) are available, neither you nor I know the exact details of the technologies. However I believe that such alternatives can be developed within ten years or so if we make them a priority. (There are also ways to develop better gasoline-powered engines that get much better gas mileage, and are not hybrids--people at MIT have such designs.)
Ironically, people like the owner of the hybrid car pictured above are NWO supporters, through and through!!! (That is obviously not true of all hybrid car owners--most hybrid cars I see around here bear NO bumper stickers. Our non-hybrid car also has none.)
I've been dubious about the hybrids though. Maybe if they had better battery technologies...
I'm kind of dubious about them. I thought 45 mpg didn't sound like all that much, but an owner explained that that is 45 total, including city driving and that sounded better. Living in a city that tried to evacuate itself a couple of years ago, and wound up with thousands of vehicles running out of gas on the side of the road, I have thought it would be real nice to have a car that didn't burn fuel when idling. OTOH, where I live flooding is also a prime consideration, and I kind of like my nice tall four-door pickup for going through high water.
