Ah, yeah.
Folks, this morning on NBC's The Today Show, we were regaled with the story that Our Lord Jesus is on Earth, reincarnated in the person of Dr. José Luis de Jesús Miranda. Well, not exactly "reincarnated" but the product of a "fusion" between Our Lord and himself. In his sect there's no sin, no need for prayers, no devil calling him a "Hollywood character" and attacks all other religions--of course--calling them all "liars" and making the point that all the lies "began in Rome." Accordingly, his followes have started protest campaigns against other religions, but particularly against us.
He's also filthy rich.
Of course.
Check the clip from The Today Show, and the cult's website. Be prepared for the audio start, which is a diatribe against St. Peter in Spanish, comparing him to "Hitler" and calling him "worse than Hitler" in Puerto Rican Spanish vernacular. I can't tell if he's being serious or facetious. For you see, like the Marcionists of old, they reject everything in the Bible but the Letters of St. Paul. If you read Spanish, check out their beliefs here. Gnosticism and anti-Judaism mix freely into a hodpodge with little internal coherence--at least the first paragraph makes no sense to me--at times approaching "the prosperity Gospel"
Anyway, this man is hardly the first Puerto Rican with Messianic pretensions, aside from politicians of every trend, that is. He was preceded in this noble endeavor by the MITA Congregation, whose followers believe that Aarón, their leader, is "the Prophet, the Instrument chosen by God in these days, and that it is through his voice that the Lord sends a message to cleanse us, free us of sin, and unite us in one flock."
It is regrettable that Aarón's baptismal name was "Teófilo."
Anyway, the "man Jesus Christ" has established competition. Is either him or the Holy Spirit who once was in Mita and who now indwells Aarón.
¡Ay, bendito!
And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; lo, he is here: do not believe. For there will rise up false Christs and false prophets, and they shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce (if it were possible) even the elect. Take you heed therefore; behold I have foretold you all things. (St. Mark 13: 21-23, Douay-Rheims)No wonder they reject the rest of the New Testament, for it delegitimizes their entire belief structure and unmask their lies.
But we have been forwarned. Let us not be deceived.
PING!
I would have at least expected a Fox News Alert!
there are a bunch of them -- it's a very successful business model. "Bishop" Edir Macedo of Brazil is probably a billionaire by now.
I saw the segment too. I just don't understand how people can be fooled by such an obvious fraud.
What will happen when he dies, by the way?
Will a chosen successor claim to be this loser in another body?
unfortunately he is ineligible
There have been several on FR recently. Interesting times approach it seems.
If it's not supposed to be funny, then Dr. Miranda better avoid thunderstorms with a passion.

Exactly.
Who else?
A so-called "evangelist" in Puerto Rico, who's become extremely rich while fleecing the poor suckers who believe him?
NO.
WAY.
BTW, whatever happened to the wackiest of them all, Yiye Avila??
That can't be! DaveMSmith claims HE is the Messiah! (No Joke!) Then again, for all I know, DaveMSmith is Puerto Rican...
Dave, help me out here...
Go figure... a real life anti-Christ...
Did you know that there was an anti-Christ in Central Asia who killed 85 million people just last century?
(Emperor Salesse (sp?) in Ethiopia was only held to be Christ after his death)
With your spiritual development? Sure.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
At least, they have a great band.
One character in Puerto Rico I remember is the leader of the Defensores de la Fe denomination, particularly his anti-Catholic diatribes (for example, denouncing Marian apparitions as frauds). He was also in very cozy terms with the Popular Democratic Party back in the island.
