This is an excellent book that is both a detailed military history and a historical apologetics book. The authors' foundational point is that the military campaigns of the OT are so detailed that they couldn't have been fabricated and are not fables like some skeptics and liberal scholars would like us to believe.
The authors do an incredible job at drawing out details from the English and Hebrew texts. This coupled with their own knowledge and experience in warfare, they paint a detailed picture of the Israeli campaigns. They also make many comparisons to later battles, leaders and campaigns in military history. So if your interests lie in military history, ancient history, archaeology or historical apologetics, this book covers all of those fields.

Ofcourse the battles aren't made up.
We know the worlds of the past where as eventfull as today. How silly it would be to have to make up famous people and great battles if there are famous people and great battles occuring all around you. Not to mention that people in the area would have known for a long time to come whether something occured or not.
But disproving or proving religious claims is nearly impossible. Trying to disprove or prove religious settings the OT mentions is far easier, and so the whole biblical archeology has become tainted with alternative agendas.

The History Channel had a show about some of these battles a couple of weeks ago. Very interesting stuff indeed.

If you go to a category on amazon that you like, and sort from low to high, frequently you find some outstanding bargains...books for as low as a penny plus shipping...I've bought a lot of penny history books lately...

There shouldn't be much dissent about the major historical events in portions of the Old Testament such as the battles and wars.
The Jews may have embellished their winning records against most of their enemies, but who would fabricate the major losses against the Assyrians and Romans that wound up with the entire nation (except for scattered survivors I'm sure)in chains.
If we can accept the stone tablets of Rhamses, why not the scrolls of the Jews?

ehm? What do you mean? I tried to point out that whenever archeology is confronted with something 'biblical', many atheist archeologist will either ignore it or dispute it, and many religious will be a little bit too enthusiastic about it to be believable. You do not agree?
