This is probably the first time I have ever linked to something like this--but this is an online denominational selector quiz that purports to help the user discern which Christian traditions most accord with his or her beliefs. As the quiz designer says, "Many of these are vast oversimplifications, and it is very hard to set options when there are often many differing views even within certain denominations." Therefore this quiz is hardly infallible, but I do think it is one of the better ones I've seen online. Try it out and see where you come out in its analysis.
My own rankings are:
Rank Item Percent
1: Eastern Orthodox (100%)
2: Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England (95%)
3: Presbyterian/Reformed (95%)
4: Lutheran (79%)
5: Roman Catholic (79%)
6: Congregational/United Church of Christ (72%)
7: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (64%)
8: Church of Christ/Campbellite (40%)
9: Baptist (non-Calvinistic)/Plymouth Brethren/Fundamentalist (29%)
10: Seventh-Day Adventist (22%)
11: Methodist/Wesleyan/Nazarene (20%)
12: Pentecostal/Charismatic/Assemblies of God (20%)
13: Anabaptist (Mennonite/Quaker etc.) (14%)
While I am a bit puzzled as to the Eastern Orthodox score, I think for the most part these rankings are reasonably accurate for me. I think that in all probability the Eastern Orthodox score was so high at least in part due to the question on church government, and the question on Scripture and Tradition.
I'm assuming that the author might have done some research into how the typical presby/reform (or any other denom) would have answered the questions given that they had only these questions to answer.
Then those typical answers are compared to those submitted by respondents to the website.
Therefore, it doesn't matter if the questions accurately reflect your denomination. What matters would be if your pattern of answers matches that of known presby/reformed who had to answer.
You should see my results. :>) I was very surprised.
ROMAN CATHOLIC???
ME?
Oh, wait, I did the "What You Are Not Selector....."
;-)
No surprises here:
Rank Item Percent
1: Methodist/Wesleyan/Nazarene (100%)
2: Anabaptist (Mennonite/Quaker etc.) (90%)
3: Pentecostal/Charismatic/Assemblies of God (89%)
4: Congregational/United Church of Christ (85%)
5: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (84%)
6: Seventh-Day Adventist (79%)
7: Baptist (non-Calvinistic)/Plymouth Brethren/Fundamentalist (78%)
8: Presbyterian/Reformed (73%)
9: Church of Christ/Campbellite (69%)
10: Eastern Orthodox (68%)
11: Lutheran (63%)
12: Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England (60%)
13: Roman Catholic (52%)
But, I agree with Suzy that the test isn't really representative of the demoninational boxes is tries to put you in. I had bigger trouble with the style of worship service, there was no room for a blend of styles.
1: Lutheran (100%)
2: Eastern Orthodox (81%)
3: Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England (79%)
4: Presbyterian/Reformed (74%)
5: Congregational/United Church of Christ (70%)
6: Roman Catholic (66%)
7: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (61%)
8: Church of Christ/Campbellite (58%)

10: Methodist/Wesleyan/Nazarene (40%)
11: Pentecostal/Charismatic/Assemblies of God (38%)
12: Seventh-Day Adventist (26%)
13: Anabaptist (Mennonite/Quaker etc.) (21%)
Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) was second on my list.
I guess we now know who the real historical Calvinists are.
Silly rabbit. 8~)
73% -- there's hope. 8~)
Okay, I'll bite. What were your results?
Welcome to the fold, Rev! Greek School starts Wednesday night after the Presanctified Liturgy (mandatory attendance).
Wow, the subliminal mind is starting to kick in.=^oo^=
I'm sorry for not answering your post last night. My husband pulled me away from the keyboard. Some things are more important than discussing doctrine on Saturday night! Besides, he said I was being too nitpicky about something that was designed for fun.
Actually, the first thing that came to mind, when I read the moderate drinking/dancing question was trying to envision Dr.Eckleburg with a rose in her mouth, dancing.
It's a tulip.
The internet is trying to tell you something... 8~)
2: Pentecostal/Charismatic/Assemblies of God (91%)
3: Anabaptist (Mennonite/Quaker etc.) (77%)
4: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (68%)
5: Church of Christ/Campbellite (68%)
6: Methodist/Wesleyan/Nazarene (68%)
7: Seventh-Day Adventist (68%)
8: Congregational/United Church of Christ (66%)
9: Lutheran (51%)
10: Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England (40%)
11: Eastern Orthodox (33%)
12: Presbyterian/Reformed (33%)
13: Roman Catholic (17%)
If I didn't know better I would think I was a church goer.
That's assumin' y'all could win me over from the Adventists...
We have pie. 8~)
That's sorta "seeker sensitive", isn't it? ;-)
1: Roman Catholic (100%)
2: Eastern Orthodox (67%)
3: Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England (61%)
4: Lutheran (56%)
5: Presbyterian/Reformed (50%)
6: Church of Christ/Campbellite (40%)
7: Congregational/United Church of Christ (40%)
8: Methodist/Wesleyan/Nazarene (36%)
9: Anabaptist (Mennonite/Quaker etc.) (34%)
10: Pentecostal/Charismatic/Assemblies of God (26%)
11: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (23%)
12: Seventh-Day Adventist (23%)
13: Baptist (non-Calvinistic)/Plymouth Brethren/Fundamentalist (15%)
What do you get when you mix:
1: Baptist (Reformed/Particular/Calvinistic) (50%)
+
2: Baptist (non-Calvinistic)/Plymouth Brethren/Fundamentalist (50%)
= 100% Southern Baptist :-)
