The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Malakhi, I know you have posted on this subject before, but please refresh my memory.

I know Jews are still waiting for their Messiah. What kind of a person do you think he will be? What are you expecting in him that Jesus didn’t fulfill?

I'm not following your argument. It seems as though you argue God may not bless and then insist He must judge and find an infant guilty.

Perhaps more guidance is available from discerning the tree of life, tree of knowledge of good and evil, and the Cross.

Christ has already paid the penalty for sin on the cross. If the partaker of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil also partakes of the tree of life, then a just God would be forced to condemn man to the Lake of Fire. But by man after partaking the tree of knowledge of good and evil, now partakes of the tree of eternal life (the Cross), God is now free to allow man to partake of eternal life.

The infant unknowledgable of the knowledge of good and evil is not yet in that position where God must condemn the infant to the Lake of Fire to remain holy.

I've already explained that I only responded to JimRob's warning that the thread was on shaky ground.
"Actually, is has occurred to me that there may be another reason to try to get the thread shutdown. I cued the mod's in on this very possibility last night.

They (the mod's) appear to be keeping a watchful eye over the thread now. POST 3,392

So what do you think IT is ??

One of the funnier (unwittingly so) Christian T-shirts I've seen was a t-shirt with a picture of Jesus on the cross and the greek word "teleo" above it. Unfortunately, teleo is the present first person active of what Jesus actually said "tetelestai." So the t-shirt said "I am finishing." Just enough knowledge to be deadly.

"It" does not need to be tied to one definite meaning. There are a multitude of suggestions which are applicable and Biblical. "It" could be Jesus struggle through the ordeal of death. I would not suggest this as an all-inclusive meaning, but it certainly could have been one thing He meant. "It" must at some level include God's plan of salvation for mankind and the fact that Jesus death (and proleptically his Resurrection) accomplished available salvation and wholeness for humankind (or a couple of people who got voted for, either way :-) ).

If he is meant to hear he will ...

A somewhat different message than that with which you first blessed us, I believe.

"If it was up to men to choose how would God know how big to build the ark? Um...I'm gonna go with "foreknowledge" for 1000, Alex.

Then I guess God didn't provide a "way of salvation for all men" as you suggested. There was no need since God foreknew none would be save.

Please remember to answer in form of a question. :O)

The problem, from the Calvinist's viewpoint, is that the Arminian says salvation requires the "acceptance" of God's grace -- the necessity of answering the call; opening the door; responding to the offer before the salvation-transaction takes effect.

The Calvinist points out that if this were true, it would be impossible for the infant or the bushman in Africa or the imbecile to be saved because they cannot participate in their own salvation by making the decision to "accept" God's "offer" of grace.

This problem is solved, however, by acknowledging that God's mercy is not conditional on anything but His own good purpose. The playing field is leveled for all of us. Either God wrote our names in the Book of Life from before the foundation of the world, or He didn't. No amount of cajoling can change that reality.

Thus, just like you and I are saved by faith alone, an unmerited gift from God to his fallen creation, so, too, might the infant and imbecile and bushman be saved, if it is God's will.

Because "deserves got nothing to do with it." - William Muny, "Unforgiven."

So what do you think IT is ??

"Tt" would have to be something that was not "finished since the beginning of time", but something that was just finished. He had just accepted some sour wine.

It was the completion of the Passover Seder.

"If you note the 2nd Adam had the same temptations put before Him as the 1st Adam did. Lust of the eyes , lust of the flesh and the pride of life..unlike the 1st Adam the 2nd overcame"

That is an excellent point. Most people I know always miss this.

I have found the Catholics are MORE than capable of holding their own.
