The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

When have you heard any Calvinist say that belief in Calvinism was necessary for salvation?

Every time you tell the tulip lie.

There are always exceptions but 4 is not 7. My youngest was ready at around 8. My middle around 12 and my oldest in his teens. They were saved in that order. My Uncle is a minister (kind of raised me) and said that he believed one of his nephews would be called to minister and was going to leave his bible to him. He is still going strong and the boys still argue about "it's not going to be me, it's going to be you"
If it should ever happens it will probaby be the youngest after he settles down. (If he had been first he would have been the only :')

Yeah I hear you but I also can't see why the God I worship would destine someone to hell at creation. It doesn't fit His pattern.

In what way? He once destroyed the world with water, He once destroyed cities with fire. God is justice, and justice demands judgment

Did you read this post? I tried to explain it there

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/1095208/posts?page=2948#2948

Cindy ,every man is destined to Hell until God saves him . If one believes that election is based on foreknowledge then they also have to accept that God created some men knowing that they are destined for hell.

I always hesitate to quote Romans 9, because eyes roll. But it is still a part of the word of God .

If you have time tomorrow read it (no skipping over the tough parts )

All though the Bible God set a people aside for himself. Read Deut 7:7 (I just noticed that it is double 7's ... the number of completion ..kinda funny )

I am going to bed now..I enjoy reading Sproul, he gave a great example of how mercy works from one of his books ..I will try to paraphrase it tomorrow.

nite

In 1956, apparently a Maura Lyons wanted to join his Free Presbyterian Church over the objection of the girls parents. He took her in and refused to tell the police where she was. Eventually the court intervened and ordered him to stay away from both the girl and her parents.

Not a guy I want to appeal to.

There are some Calvinists for whom Calvinist theology is considered a sign of salvation.

I don't think any now on this board hold to that position; there are times when we seem that way, to be sure, because monergism is the essence of the gospel. But there are many strong Arminian Christians, and there are probably a lot of unsaved Calvinists who have never been truly converted, their doctrinal orthodoxy notwithstanding. (Not that I think you are in that category....)

You, of course, meant that as a compliment, right, Cindy?

I haven't spent much time on these NES threads during my three years of posting and two years of lurking. Probably because more than a few posters have complained that the NES was populated by small minds, wagging tongues, apostate Christians, baffoons, sophomoric humor, idle thoughts, back-biting snickers, crude remarks and weak debate.

Thanks for showing yourselves before too much more time was wasted here.

Here's how I see it:

Not a single person in hell is there unjustly, Every single one of us deserved to be judged, because we FREELY embraced sin. I chose, of my own free (if fallen) will to engage in behavior I knew was wrong, but because it seemed "fun," I chose to do it anyway. Every man, woman, or child that ever lived (with a single very notable exception) did likewise.

The difference is that God in His infinate mercy saves SOME. The inmate sitting on death row has no claim to the governor's clemancy just because the governor pardoned the last guy: he still committed a crime deserving the harshest punishment the state can wield. Similarly, God's mercy to you does not oblige him to show it to me. He may show mercy upon whomever He will.

Why might God only choose to save some? In part, that's a mystery to us: the atonement was sufficient for every sin of every man who ever lived. I Jn explicitly says that Christ was the propitiation for the whole world, and I see no reason to try to limit its scope. But God clearly chose not to bring every soul to the point of repentance, though he clearly could do so justly, I believe Romans 9 gives us a clue when it says that God endures the vessels appointed to wrath so as to show the vessels of mercy the glory of God. We would not know mercy if we did not know judgment.

I wasn't going to post to you anymore after the way you have repeatedly insulted me but I'll make an exception this once since you seem offended and have a need to further insult me.

Whatever are you talking about? It wasn't meant offensive. Sometimes I can obviously tell and sometimes I can't. Blame it on my lack of intelligence again if you want too. Your posts just seemed to fit in with the verbal sparring with the rest of the guys here and I didn't notice anything to indicate otherwise. Since I think the regular guys here have excellent debating skills and are quit theologically knowledgeable maybe you should take it as a compliment instead of getting in a huff and throwing insults.

It's a lot funnier when you think up your own jokes, rather than simply repeating mine.

But if it makes you laugh, then go ahead. Retread.

On 1 post you tell me that Gods grace spares some and that He chooses them for no special reason and then you post that anyone who accepts Christ as their savior is saved.

CD those who accept Christ are the ones God has chosen.

What do yall have to do to be sure?

I would have left out the "probably" and stopped at belief in Christ.

Regardless of what God was doing at the time Jesus told us that with God all things possible. He said it so I believe it.

Can God lie? Can God love sin?
