Anglican Mainstream delivers petition to Lambeth Palace
A team from Anglican Mainstream, on behalf of over 13 million supporters across the Anglican Communion, delivered an electronic copy of the online petition in support of the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes to Lambeth Palace. They were met by the Archbishop's Secretary for Anglican Communion Affairs, Canon Dr Herman Browne.
The following press release was issued:
MILLIONS OF ANGLICANS OPPOSE US BISHOP
A clear signal was sent today to the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, that a majority of Anglicans worldwide oppose the consecration of a practising homosexual and support moves by mainstream Anglicans in America to refuse to accept the actions of the Episcopal Church of the USA.
In just over one month Anglican Mainstream gained the backing of over 13 million Anglicans to an online petition which was signed by five Archbishops of the Anglican Communion and their provinces and a further two Archbishops.
Anglican Mainstream petitioned the Archbishop of Canterbury to give a new Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes - which was formed in response to a suggestion from him - his public backing. They are also calling on him to provide for pastoral and Episcopal care that is acceptable to loyal congregations and dioceses in the USA.
The petition supports a move by mainstream Anglicans in the US to refuse to accept the consecration of Gene Robinson, a practising homosexual, as Bishop of New Hampshire.
The petition backs the establishment of a new network of Anglicans who will remain within the Episcopal Church of the USA but who are seeking ways in which they can be represented at all major Anglican gatherings and ecumenical meetings in future.
A number of ecumenical partners, particularly the Russian Orthodox Church, have already begun talks with the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes. The network has been invited to represent US Anglicans at the enthronement of the new Archbishop of Uganda on January 25.
Dr Philip Giddings, a member of General Synod, Preb Richard Bewes, Rector of All Souls, Langham Place, Canon Christopher Sugden, a leading mission theologian and Peter Ould, webmaster for Anglican Mainstream delivered the e-petition to the Archbishop at Lambeth Palace, at 2.30 pm today (December 30, 2003). They were met by Canon Herman Browne, Secretary for Anglican Communion Affairs who received a CD-ROM recording all the signatories and supporters for the biggest petition in the history of the Anglican Communion.
Five Archbishops and eight bishops signed as the authorised leaders representing their provinces and dioceses enabling the number of supporters to reach over 13 million. Many individuals from Britain, North America and around the world also signed.

It's really an easy decision, and it's amazing to me that the normalization of anal sex holds that much power over Rowan Williams or Frank Griswold.
