ALABAMA BISHOP SENDS IN SPY TO AAC DALLAS MEETING

Special Report

By David W. Virtue

The Bishop of Alabama, the Rt. Rev. Henry N. Parsley, Jr., sent a spy to the AAC conference in Dallas, and in a letter to his clergy, urged them "not to associate this diocese or yourself with any statement or documents that support schismatic action."

The name of the plant was the Rev. Ron Morpeth. He went as the bishop's "official representative for the Diocese," and obtained "press" credentials even though he has not now, nor has he ever been, a journalist.

According to the Rev. Dr. David Roseberry, a convenor of the meeting, Morpeth was registered under the name of Church of the Apostles in Birmingham, Alabama, but Morpeth works in the Department of Finance & Administration in the Diocese of Alabama, according to the Alabama diocesan website.

Morpeth was credentialed as a journalist, paid no fees and masqueraded as such to report back to Parsley.

VIRTUOSITY has obtained the letter that Bishop Parsley sent to all the clergy of the diocese, dated September 29, advising them "not to officially register with the AAC in the name of this diocese or of your or any parish."

He wrote that he feared the American Anglican Council was pushing for an "alternative province of the Anglican Communion in the United States," and said he did not welcome the AAC agenda in his diocese. "I believe that we must work within the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion as presently constituted to express our views and work for what is right," he wrote.

Parsley then offered what he called "godly advice."

"Take care not to officially register with the AAC in the name of this diocese or of your or any parish. It is my understanding that in the diocese we have two parishes who have been trying to get their name(s) removed from their website for years without success, after it was unofficially placed there by an Individual."

"Please do no associate this diocese or yourself with any statement or document that supports schismatic action."

"The Rev. Rob Morpeth is going to Dallas as my official representative for the diocese. He will have "press" credentials, as this was the only observer status available. Please keep in touch with him during the meeting."

Parsley concludes his letter asking his clergy to meet with him and Bishop Andrus on Oct. 13th for lunch at Carpenter House. "I look forward to hearing a full account of the meeting and your impressions. Please do not make a report to your parish until after we have met together."

The letters was signed Faithfully yours

+Henry

to translate bp paisley's remark about not being able to get two parishes off the AAC's list, a better way to read that would appear to be "those darned laymen keep working with the AAC even after I and their parish priests tell them not to do so!"

LIBERAL-SPEAK TRANSLATION:
Rob is going to Dallas as my representative. He will have "press" credentials, even though he is not a journalist. We both think it's perfectly okay to lie and misrepresent ourselves because those evil conservatives made us do it.

I don't know how Parsley thought that when this letter got out(and they always do, eventually), it wouldn't make him look sleazy. Let me guess...the N stands for Nancy?
