After many years as a Freeper, I bid you adieu. The New Orleans disaster, in my home town, has turned the owners of this web site into a girly man. I'm done. Robb can pander to the looters and the scum. Frank King, Soliton

Well, that time has come for me. I’m leaving FR. However, I do not consider this an “opus”, as I am NOT going to use it to rehash old slights or arguments, or to give my personal opinion of what “should be done around here”. As has been so often pointed out, this is Jim Robinson’s site, and he runs it as he sees fit. Rather, all I’m going to do here is give a general reason for my departure, and say a hearty-but-sad “GOODBYE!” to all the folks here who have enriched my life in the past four years....

First, this is NOT an April Fool's joke. I am leaving Free Republic. Over the past two years, civility and thoughtful discourse has vanished from this site, replaced with demands for ideological conformity that are straight out of Stalinist Russia or China's Great Cultural Revolution, and unrelenting uncivility if said conformance is not forthcoming. This trend began with the California recall election, where certain posters were allowed to flame the living beejezus out of those who didn't wholeheartedly support Tom McClintock, or thought that he wasn't running a campaign capable of winning. It extended into the Keyes campaign last year,...

Six months ago, Free Republic was riding high, and I was proud to be a part of it. It was coming off having blown the cover off of Dan Rather’s use of forged memos against the President. The President was well on his way to winning re-election. It was a great time to be a Freeper. However, things have changed. It started with the justifiable removal of ALIPAC. I supported that move by Jim Robinson, but the ugliness directed towards Alberto Gonzales. He was accused of everything under the sun, and Senator Mel Martinez was viciously attacked for speaking Spanish...

This is truly one of the great tragedies of our time. DUmmie trumad is leaving DUmmieland and inflicts us with his bizarre reasons for doing so as you can see in this THREAD titled, “Farewell DU! It's been one hell of a run!” So let us now read trumad’s fond farewell and the DUmmie responses in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, wishing a bon voyage to trumad, is in the [brackets]: Farewell DU! It's been one hell of a run! [Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee...

A message to “Freepers”: I invite all who participate to listen up. This is a serious message to those of you who post here. I am a christian conservative and firmly adhere to conservative values. I am a grandmother to be and I want my grandchildren to live an America like I grew up in. I realize that this is impossible now and want to make a difference. I want to keep my family safe from terrorism and safe from the liberal ideology being forced upon us. In this presidential election, I know that George Bush is the only clear...

I noticed my search panel got changed to DRSN Search without my permission. This thing also blocks my customize page by bringing up search site DRSN Search again. I would like the DRSN sevice removed so that I can use the service I want. Also please close my Freerepublic account whereas I only opened it to get rid of this service I did not request. Thank you.

I have created a public register of "bump lists" here on Free Republic. I define a bump list as a name listed in the "To" field used to index articles. Free Republic Bump List Register

Chris Wallace advertised his Sunday news show as a time to put the names of our fallen soldiers in context. Ted Koppel had simply read the names of the soldiers who have sacrificed all, the last full measure of devotion, for us to live in peace and for the Iraqis to have a unique and blessed chance to find peace and security and democracy. So, Chris Wallace decided to have a show to put those sacrifices in context, and talk about all the good things that the American soldiers had done in Iraq. So, I tuned in, and I am...

I Challenge Your Patriotism. 4/29/04 I challenge your patriotism. There it has been said and I mean it. The fact is, you Democrats have been rooting against the United States for some time now and you know it. You have predicted failure and have degraded success. You have been promoting a Quagmire since our troops were bogged down by a sandstorm in the first week of the war. You called it a failure unless we captured Saddam and you called his capture “No big deal”. Lets face facts; the French, the terrorists groups and the Democrats are biding their time...

A few days ago, the esteeemed host and founder of this foremerly great website invited me to do the following: "654. To: JohnGaltfla (#367) Oh, it's much better to go out in a blaze of glory. Martyrdom, 72 virgins, plaque on the "Great Ones" wall of fame and all that rot. jimrobfr posted on 2004-03-19 03:29:45 ET" Obviously, he was concerned that some of his better non-bot posters had abandoned FR for greener fields where our financial and intellectual contributions would be appreciated. It was amusing to watch former FReepers belittle, banter and blast JimRob in various forms. I was...

Mod update: To put this "opus" in perspective, some additional information compliments of a thorough FReeper, dighton.

I am Michael Joseph McCarthy, well known forest activist in Eugene, Oregon who ran against Scott Meisner for City Council last election. I am a Member of the Pacific Green Party who wants this scoundrel in office now thrown out.

I know, I know, everyone hates the "OPUS" as it it is often used to do more b!tching and moaning than anything else. No, I have not had threads deleted or posts pulled for bad behavior. I do not believe there is a conspiracy against me. I have nothing bad to say about Mr. Robinson, nor any of the folks here. My purpose here is merely to say "Bye". It's become clear to me that idealogically I don't synch here anymore, which is too bad because I really liked FreeRepublic (read: wasted WAY too much time here :-)). God Bless...

You want a Free Republic, if it is your kind of freedom.

Thank you Freepers, for helping to make the difference last year in helping to elect President Bush. All are hard work has paid off by having a man of character leading us in this war. Could the country have trusted "gore"? President Bush will bring the terriosts to justice in the near future and protect our freedoms. Most of all I want to thank the God of the Bible who will someday dish out "Infinite Justice"! I went to 3 rallies in Wisconsin with other Freepers last year and we lost the state because of dems buying the votes with ...

With VERY few exceptions (thanks to the people that were human and to people that wrote me privately) you people are a bunch of fundamentalist zealots. You aren't conservatives...you're fascists. You make me embarrassed to be a Republican.

President George Bush will be accused this week of lying about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction in a face-to-face meeting with the families of British soldiers killed in the war, The Independent on Sunday can reveal.Mr Bush announced last week he was prepared to meet a small group of families of the British war dead. The names have not been officially revealed but two of the invited families have come forward to talk exclusively to the IoS, saying they will challenge the US President to explain why he went to war without a United Nations mandate and why no chemical...

On October 9, 2003, the night before Rush Limbaugh came clean on his drug addiction, I posted the following vanity: With my flame retardant suit snugly on, I must ask if anyone else who listened to Rush today noticed that he seemed to be off his game verbally. Slurring words, using the wrong words incorrectly etc... I heard only the last hour of the show today and it seemed (to me) obvious. AND, it sounded much like he did before his hearing loss when he use to comment on people who'd call to complain that he sounded drunk. My wife,...

I have asked that Mr. Robinson and the moderators remove my account. I no longer wish to be a part of this website. The response I received was that I must post an opus first. This is my opus. For friends of mine who wish to contact me at any time in the future, I will be over at designeduniverse.com. The prayer thread for President Bush which I started on this hand is in capable hands. I appreciate all who have kept it going and pray that it continues. I also pray that Free Republic will return to the forum...
