I Challenge Your Patriotism (by Me)

I Challenge Your Patriotism. 4/29/04

I challenge your patriotism. There it has been said and I mean it. The fact is, you Democrats have been rooting against the United States for some time now and you know it. You have predicted failure and have degraded success. You have been promoting a Quagmire since our troops were bogged down by a sandstorm in the first week of the war. You called it a failure unless we captured Saddam and you called his capture “No big deal”. Lets face facts; the French, the terrorists groups and the Democrats are biding their time until November election.

There has been a call from the left, to show caskets and funerals: protestors are already using the image of flag draped caskets at rallies. Nightline will be doing a name reading and Doonsbury has a comic (political) strip about an amputee. The purpose of these actions is to demoralize the American people. It also aids our enemies.

I think we should honor these fallen heroes with a monument in every town square. How we feel about war casualties tells a lot about us. I am saddened with each announcement of a soldier killed or wounded. But we can take pride these young people died in service to freedom and doing something they wanted to do. God doesn’t guarantee anyone 70 years on this earth and you could be just as easily killed in a car crash, in a work accident, a plane could be intentionally flown into your office building or you could die in service to your country.

I was talking to some Anti-War (Anti-Bush) protestors. One lady asked me how I would feel if my son or daughter were serving in Iraq. I said I would be proud. Giving the question more thought; I would be scared, worried and proud. It takes a special something to serve your country. Through out history Americans have been standing up and putting their lives on the line for liberty. How many millions of people in how many countries have lived their lives in freedom because of the United States military? These men and women have done their duty with pride and honor.

Pride, Honor, Liberty, Faith and Shame are things that the left doesn’t understand. These are more than words, they are deep-rooted feelings. I feel pride when I see America fighting for the freedom of the world. I honor the brave soldiers past and present that have fought for freedom. Liberty is the feeling that causes people to flee their birthplace at great peril to their own life to get to America. More than faith in God, we must have the faith to believe that we will succeed and the world will be a better place and the future will be brighter. Shame is something the left knows nothing about; they feel no shame when they use the deaths of Americans for political gain.

If you are appalled by this editorial, it’s because you know in your heart that you are far from being patriotic.

You are a T……

Ping for later.

How ironic that it was, I thought, that among the few gifts which I might possess, those few things which might distinguish me among other men, were such as are commonly associated with destructiveness. Of what value is it, I asked myself, to have certain talents? Of what dreadful value are such skills? Then I reminded myself that such skills are often of great use and that culture, with its glories of art, and music and literature, can flourish only within the perimeters of their employments. Perhaps there is then a role for the lonely fellows on the wall, for the border guards, for the garrisons of far-flung outposts, for the guardsmen in the city treading their lonely rounds. All these, too, in their humble, unnoticed way, serve. Without them the glory is not possible. Without them even their critics could not exist. - John Norman

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse. a man who has nothing which he cares more about than his safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill

As for the "you pay for it" monument comment. The NEA already uses my tax money for a cross to be placed into a jar of urine and a "painting" of the Virgin Mary to be made from feces and calls them both "art". I call this grotesque and a misuse of public money. A monutment honoring those soldiers who stand up against our blindness and those who would destroy us is a FAR better use for such funds.

Fine, if you're paying.

We have a monument in our town square with the names of our fallen soldiers from all the wars on it. And we gladly pay for it.

The small towns of Georgia are full of them. Money well spent if you ask me.

Even you have fallen for the spin! The troops were not "bogged down" by the sandstorm. In fact, it was one of the worst storms in Iraqi history. "Bogged Down" and waiting it out are two different animals. OBTW, I was there!
